ZU Cooks!

As I was deboning chickens for stock this afternoon, I thought I should bring back a thread from a couple months ago. There was a cooking thread, and from talking to people in that, I thought I was the only person on ZU who was pursuing a careen in cooking. Hoever I have recently found out that this is not the case. So I thought maybe if this was given a second try some more people would be happy to share! Do you want to becom a cook? What do you like cooking? What have you cooked? Let me know!

As for my self, I'm going into my second year of my apprenticeship, and I'm going to be completing my first semester of college starting september (I was in a highschool/college co-op program last year, so I only did half the semester). I've been cooking at home almost my whole life. My dad worked as a sous chef at a small restaurant for a while, so while he was never a formally trained cook, he knew enough to show me the basics. From there I started experimenting and learning from the food network. I loved cooking, and in grade 12 (when I could finally fit it into my schedual) took my first formal cooking class. After getting some experience I decided this is what I want to do for a career, and went back to high school for an extra year to take the apprenticeship program. This past year I got the top culinary arts marks in my school both first and second semester, and faired pretty well in the college portion as well. I worked in a (seemingly good, but actually awfull) italian restaurant for my co-op placement at school, and have worked in a bar & grill for 2 years (no ideal for experience, but I love the job).

That's pretty much for my over view, if anyone wants to see some of the stuff I've done, here are some of my pictures from the last two years.

I saw the thread title and thought it was "ZU Cocks".

This isn't as fun.

Re: ZU Cooks!

I went to a cooking school for a few years (From which I just heard that I get my diploma for this year but its still a low level so its not a huge thing) so I at least understand the basics, but I found out that I don't really want to do this for a living. Its still a hobby of mine though.

Re: ZU Cooks!

I love cooking, and I've considered it as a career path, but after doing some work in restaurants, I'm pretty sure that doing restaurant work is not really my thing.

So its more likely that its just going to be an at-home passion of mine. I cook virtually all the meals for my family when I'm at home, and then when I'm away at school I get to have plenty of fun just trying out new things and experimenting for my own meals.

Re: ZU Cooks!

My cousin is in culinary school. I believe he's shooting for baking (pastries and the like).
I, however, can't cook anything more involved than microwavable chicken tenders.

That's more like, having common sense to use a microwave. There is no cooking involved with that.

Re: ZU Cooks!

I like cooking, but it's not some thing I would go for as a career. I just do it for fun and to share with others. However, I haven't had any cooking like classes throughout my high school years. It couldn't fit in with my needed classes and my art classes (since being a video game artist and designer is what I want to do as a career). But with college coming around soon, I might see if they have any beginning culinary classes that I could take. :]

As for what I've baked before, I've made cookies and brownies (cookies when I was younger so I had my mom help me, but I made home-made brownies on my own in the 7th grade), and I some times cook pasta related meals. XD That's really about it (besides the foods that are in packages that you can just make instantly but that doesn't really count).
