I'm not sure if Ottawa has a distinct accent from other Canadian cities -- but I do have a touch of a quebecois french accent -- this has always struck me as a bit funny, since english is my first language.

Everyone has an accent.
If you speak differently than someone else, you have an accent.

Once again, same.

I think I inherited that little phrase from my dad, who had a habit of annoying people when they were driving. xD

After living in West Virginia for a good bit of my life, I also can demonstrate a proper country accent. xD

Dude nice.
I suck if I try to imitate other accents, though.
I just sound like an idiot putting on a stereotypical mock accent.

Re: Do you speak with a city accent?

I have a really thick Michigan accent, but there's really not much of a 'city accent', unless you count the west coast having more of a 'Fargo' way of speaking and everyone in the U.P. (or da' yoo pee, eh?) actually have a movie dedicated to the way they talk.

I don't find it surprising, considering Ottawa is RIGHT ON THE ONTARIO/QUEBEC Border. =P

As for Toronto, I'm not sure we have a unique accent. =/

Although, I personally can do various accents if I hear enough of it. =P

American people doing british accents are so jokess, I have my cousin who lived in canada most of his life, sounds joookkesss when he does british accents I can't stop laughing though. Americans and canadians tend to tilt to a Ozzie accent when they do British accents.

Re: Do you speak with a city accent?

Some states even have different accents within their state. For example, the accent in northern Minnesota is much more noticable than in southern Minnesota. Also, in southern Missouri you will hear alot of people with a southern accent and northen missouri seems to be a blend between a northern and southern accent.

Re: Do you speak with a city accent?

I wouldn't say I have an accent, but I if I have to I'll say I have a slight Southern accent with some British in there to spice things up. I sometimes say things in a slightly more sophisticated manner, but I also say things like ain't quite a bit.

like what i said in my post

im from chicago and im told that we speak fast in the northeast illinois, south east wisconsin, northeast indiana and south west michigan. i would imagine that it would probably be the same in minnisota. when i visit family out west i get impatient because they talk slow.
