..Houston has an accent? Man, well, I've been out of the loop.
Well, I don't live in Houston, but 'bout 4 hours north of it. And uh.. there really is not a "city accent" here. Not anything cool like Brooklyn or somethinggg. o;

Re: Do you speak with a city accent?
I have a Sussex accent which over the last twenty odd years has been strongly influenced by the London accent, there are still major differences though. Londoners usually put a harsher emphasis on their shifts between vowel sounds (not easy to explain).

Re: Do you speak with a city accent?
I currently live in northern California, but I lived in Virginia for most of my life.
I've noticed that the way people talk in California is more similar to how people talk in the south than how it is in other parts of the country. Most people probably wouldn't notice that at first, but if you listen closely you can tell that people in both areas tend to sort of glide over words, and 'soften' them. I think how I talk is pretty much like other people in California. One thing that drives me crazy is the word "hella", which seems to be bay area slang. I'd pick it as the most annoying word ever, and I've never said it unless referencing over people saying it. |

Re: Do you speak with a city accent?
Do people in Minneapolis/Saint Paul have accents? If not, then I don't have an accent.

Re: Do you speak with a city accent?
Of course, you guys sound hilarious. I live in Tennessee, so I have a southern accent. So whenever I go visit family in Minnesota, they're like "What the hell?".

Re: Do you speak with a city accent?
Really, we have accents? I've always read/heard that Midwestern people don't have accents.

Re: Do you speak with a city accent?
This would be my answer if people from other places would stop telling me I have an accent.
I'M FROM THE MIDWEST! WE DON'T HAVE ACCENTS!
