Sound can't travel through space, so you can't hear what people are trying to say.

im sure we would adapt to it until we floated along and found another galaxy and another planet with gravity on it. but by then we may have forgotton how to talk...

I don't know if this is true or not (since the process of "living" pretty much requires the process of "aging," at least as we know it, it's impossible to separate the two) but this flavor of immortality pretty much prevents any physical damage, or physical change at all, which I assume would extend to your fingernails as much as any other part of your body.

I'm pretty sure that Earth isn't going anywhere in what we could reasonably call "the near future." The Sun certainly isn't going anywhere in the near future.

So. After the entire Solar System is gone and you're floating out in space at least 4 light years away from the nearest star, what do you do to occupy your time?
I explore the Universe. Being immortal means that I can fly to the next star system eventually. In the mean time, I'm sure by the time the Solar System is gone I will have obtained for myself some sort of living habitat in space where I can keep plenty of stuff to occupy me. Hell, maybe I've made a home on an asteroid somewhere. Maybe I will work on solving some of the mysteries of the Universe, or maybe I'll write a book or ten.

do you know anything about sound?

sound waves require a medium. Sound is, in essence, simply the vibration of the air molecules around you. In space, there is no air, or any other suitable medium for vibrations to travel through. There are no molecules in space to vibrate (or at least not enough) and therefore sound cannot travel in a vacuum.

well thats why i just said we would find a way to adapt. you were probably writing this when i posted that. but if you werent, i ment that we would probably use body movements and stuff to show basic things(since alot of people dont know sign language), until we became more naturally with it and we advanced it. that why i said when, or if we ever did find a planet that had gravity and air again, which would probably be a long time, we might of forgot how to speak at all.

Die at 65. Living forever could be very painful. Seeing all your loved ones pass away and you not being able to join them. I dont think i could handle that. Id rather live to atleast 70 though.

see, I don't understand this justification at all. You'll probably live long enough to see most of the people you love die anyway, but you would rather die along with them instead of living long enough to love more people? At least in living you could honor the memories of those who passed away and continue to love them. At least in living you could meet new people and love them as well.

in death you can't remember or do anything, let alone love.

"Near future" was only referring to humanity's end, not the Earth or Sun entirely.

and then you go on to mention the Sun going nova and the Solar System being destroyed.

according to the laws of thermodynamics for the heat death of the Universe to take place I would have to be dead, so this mystical immortality I seem to possess would prevent it from ever taking place (since I am apparently violating the laws of thermodynamics already). However, I see what you're trying to get at here, so let's clear some things up.

in reality, I think I would prefer a more functional immortality. The kind I could end if I wanted too. After all, I suppose there really wouldn't be anything to do after the Universe is dead. It would be more like being eternally trapped in oblivion than anything else. At that point I think I would be satisfied knowing I had done absolutely everything in the Universe, and now there is literally nothing left.

Re: Live forever or die at 65?

If immortality would only last so long as I willed it I would most certainly choose that. If I were unable to die or kill myself in any way, though, I'm not altogether sure which I would choose. Probably immortality still, but the decision would be difficult. The gift of an infinite amount of time to learn and contemplate seems tempting, although would probably lose novelty.

True, but note how I said the word "eventually". I expected that an elaboration of several billion years would be unnecessary.

Oh, yeah. Sounds so fun to constantly remember that the person you love is going to die. By the time you've hit 100 (people loved), I'm sure you're still rarin' to find another love, eh?

EDIT: And I'm absolutely positive nothing will happen in your oh-so-long lifetime that will make you want to die. People never suffer from traumatic events. Especially those invincible ones who never die and have an infinite number of events sparking as a result of that.

Re: Live forever or die at 65?

well after our universe ends, and i was still there, i would just chill out floating there. think about the things ive seen and done. if you have ever seen Ben 10 Alien Force, the one where Paradox is introduced and it shows how he went insane and became sane again, the started to fiddle with time traveling, i suppose i guess i would have to try something like that. eventually something new would be created for me to do.
