Re: Age limits wat

I think that's kind of ridiculous. Usually around 16 or 17 teens get cars and jobs and then use the money to buy fun things like games. I think by then they would know what they would want with their money without a parent supervising them.

If it's an absolute must to have an age limit, it should be lowered to 16 because usually people under 16 are with older friend or parents to help them with the situation.

No. How is that affecting trade-ins?
I noticed the last time i traded a game in, i had to fill out a bunch of crap and even do a thumb print. it was meaninglessly drawn out and complicated.
as for kids not being able to trade in games, that is really silly since it kinda counters the point of trade in game stores. Stupid policy.
EDIT: Also many of Gamestops employees ARE UNDER 18!!!!!!!!

Re: Age limits wat

Not ridiculous in the least bit, this prevents parents from later going to the store and complaining that their kid got ripped off (most stores do rip you off). Kids shouldn't be selling their games in the first place and if it really bothers you just pawn it, you'll probably get a similar amount of money compared to retailers anyway. It's actually a decent idea along with abiding by the rating system (at least from the retailer's perspective), as it saves them a lot of trouble from angry parents.

For the people who are saying what about 16-17 year olds who have jobs too bad, they have to put the cut off age somewhere.

Well if the 16-17 year olds are using their own money then it shouldn't be a problem with angry parents.

Once again there has to be a cut off point, there are also 14 and 15 year olds with jobs and 16-17 year olds without jobs, not all teenagers are the same .

For two reason i can see.
1) They don't want parents compaining their kid got ripped off
2) If it's a trade in, they become sa pawn shop, and it is illegal, unless 18 (In Ontatio) to sell to a pawn shop.

I can see why you can't, but i don't like it.

Re: Age limits wat

Also, a bit of speculation -

Perhaps the legislature has been getting on them because they were buying a lot of games that had been stolen from various locations by people of different ages. Pawn shops can only do business with people who are 18+, and are required by law to take all their information down and get fingerprints (as seems to be the case with most of the Gamestops people are complaining about in here). This is because police usually come in once a week to take the records and compare them to recent robberies in the area.

The more you know (tm).

Re: Age limits wat

I went into Gamestop to buy some stuff and I was looking around and picked up a Halo 2 case. I was just looking at the back and the clerk came up to me and said to put it back because I wasn't aloud to do that. I mean I understand not buying it unless I have an adult but I mean I can't even look at the game? Keep in mind I had it in my hands for 5 seconds.

Re: Age limits wat

The reason this law is in effect is not because of parents angry at their children getting ripped off, it's because stores like Gamestop make clients give out their information before they trade in. People under 18 shouldn't be giving out their information, for their own protection according to the law makers. Still a kind of weird law, but it's their. If it's that much of a hassle, then make an effort to change it. If you don't want to go through work of trying to change the law, then you can't really complain about it.

Not only is that stupid on so many levels but it's also bad marketing in the longrun.

lesson: don't turn in games

you generally don't get enough money for what the game is worth, anyhow
