We've had these threads before, and they never become a serious discussion.

So, moved to the GCC.

Re: Your Politics

Where does anarchist show up on this compass?

It seems to judge you off a series of arbitrary and often irrelevant and/or pointless questions that if I were to properly answer would break the entire questionnaire.

God damn I hate politics.

EDIT: I'll make some examples:

*A genuine free market requires restrictions on the ability of predator multinationals to create monopolies.

*Governments should penalise businesses that mislead the public.

*Because corporations cannot be trusted to voluntarily protect the environment, they require regulation.

Presented with agree or disagree? On a basic level yes I choose strongly disagree, but does this imply that I think corperations should have free reign to do what they want? Does this affect my standing on the political compass? Say I think that society should be smart enough to think on its own and strike back at these businesses through its own means, such as organizing boycotts, class-action lawsuits or through less-than-legal means of riots and property damage. Do I still answer with disagree because I think government shouldn't be responsible for this, or do I answer with agree because I think there should be some way to hold big-business accountable?

It's questions like these: For our social ideal, should we pass laws to regulate things and force people to accept our ideals? If we don't regulate, does this mean you don't care for things like the environment, the poor or the arts?

Say your social/economic ideals rely on people in general just being... smarter and more moral in general? You want to encourage people to help others, and clean up after themselves, and not step all over the rest of society just to advance, but you don't want to reduce it to a law forced on society to conform to your wishes?

Protip: Society is broken. Think the rest out yourself.

Re: Your Politics

Last time I took this kind of test, it said I was left wing authoritarian. I take that to mean I'm a liberal conservative.

Re: Your Politics

No, Left wing Authoritarian is what Stalin was an extreme of. Economically, he held Marxist principles about a controlled market, liberation of workers etc. but socially he forced people to behave in a way that he wanted them to, he didn't allow art or music that contravened "Communist Ideals" which was basically whatever he disliked, and he controlled the press and other media. Oh wait, maybe that does mean you're a kind of left wing conservative. I guess I ended up agreeing with you in the end.

Re: Your Politics

I've never liked some of the questions, because some of them I do not agree with or disagree with, and some of them I just don't really have any idea what my view is.

But this is my result this time around.
Economic Left/Right: -0.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.33

Makes sense. Socially I'm very liberal (aside from abortion), economically I don't know. I'm no expert at economics, and I don't really have opinions on it either.

Re: Your Politics

Economic Left/Right: -3.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.03

That's about what I got last time.

So a Left-wing Libertarian, which is pretty accurate.

It puts me reasonably close to the Dalai Lama.

And Cap'n, just to derail this thread a bit, I'd argue that one cannot rely on consumers to police big business, because big business has far more money and influence than most towns or cities, never mind groups of individuals.

Re: Your Politics

I have never really liked this particular test.

My results:

Bah, that's much too far to the right.

It should be towards the bottom, closer to the center of the y axis.

I'd say it's quite accurate; I'm very liberal but I have some righteous standards.

Re: Your Politics

The problem with this particular test is that it constantly lines up scores on the x=y slope when political preferences actually vary greatly. Not all liberals are libertarian and not all conservatives are statist.

Here's one that I prefer.

Er, no, it claims to be specifically designed to not do that.

That's why it's a 2D grid, rather than a 1D line.

Re: Your Politics

Here's what I got on political compass.

And here's my score on the other one.

So in one, I lead toward libertarianism, and in the other towards statism. Wierd.
