What do you think? Is it ok? Is it good? Is it bad?

There is an element of risk but as long as people online are careful then I do not see a foreseeable problem that might occur.

So it can be good and bad depending on the circumstances.

I am going to take the less formidable option and just say it depends. Because it really does. As Marluxia said, it really depends on the circumstances. There will be occasions where online dating is fine -- that person is still a person! But other times it may be that the reason they date is because the true character of this person is hidden behind a screen. It's a very difficult topic.

There's some risk involved, but it's not necessarily bad. Just don't be thick and meet them in a public place.

I personally have never used it, due to being underage.

Meh. Never really had an online relationship. But I just can't imagine it really working. You'd need to trust them and know them well enough to meet them in real life. I guess from there it could work.

I can imagine people becoming friends online (I have several buddies I met online, and have kept in contact almost daily for about two years), but I personally can't see dating go so well. Though two online friends of mine, who never met in person, were dating and literally went out of their ways to chat to each other and do video chats.

So I suppose it's possible, you just have to be careful about it. Best thing to do is just make friends online, with the goal of dating second after building a trust. If you just go in hoping to date, it'll be a hell of a time actually accomplishing anything. If you just chat about stuff, you'll eventually become friends, and so on, and so forth.

I know if I lived closer to some of my online buddies, I'd sure go visit them occasionally, but several states and even timelines span our distances. So that's a no

Darius and I knew one another for two and a half years or so before he asked me to be his girlfriend. We mail things to each other now, we use MSN video calling a lot, we've talked on the phone before even, and more. Online relationships need to be built slowly and with care.

Unfortunately, they tend to not work out because they are not built properly. But they can if people take the right steps. There are some good examples right here in ZU too. Kassi and Lex, Darius and myself (trust me, we are inseparable. XD), Fox McCloud and Nenue. If only more people did what these people had done, I bet more online relationships would work out. What's more, online dating has some big advantages over IRL dating. For one thing, you're more likely to meet the right person online because you only get to know them through their personality. Second, you can't judge them by their looks when you first meet them. Looks are not everything. Lastly, you can meet a greater variety of people online than IRL for obvious reasons.

I do it only because I know I have no hope of meeting people IRL.

Yeah, but it doesn't necessarily have to be as long as it was with Darius and I. It was actually a good deal shorter for Kassi and Lex, for example.

The internet is a good tool for meeting people. However, a relationship that remains online exclusively will fail and bring you misery. You deserve better.
