..the weather channel. Sci-fi has nothing of great import, I've seen just about everything they've produced for the History channel in regards to Hitler, Mythbusters has gone stale with ideas (and no explosion can outdo the time they blew up a cement truck with c-4). So I find that I return most often to the weather channel. For it is here that I learn a great deal of information that is not presented anywhere else (and besides, who can complain about their great jazzy-easy-listening-muzak?). |
You forgot to mention the "End of the World" shows on the History Channel. Those are pretty popular too. Mythbusters wasn't too bad last night. They had a giant Lego boulder. It's been a while since I actually had TWC on my tv but the jazz music is pretty nice. I think Hobby Lobby uses the same CDs.

Information such as the end of the world.
I came to this conclusion after watching a program on the weather channel (yeah they have programs, and some of them have as much adventure, drama, and action as some movies do) that was discussing the benefits of using solar power. It was a nifty segment, Bill Nye was even on the program talking about his house and the way he supplemented his power with that of the sun.
Among all this was the portion that led me to believe that the world might be coming to an end.

Bill Nye has a crazy energy efficient, green home. I've seen a few times on Planet Green Channel I believe. He's always looking into improving his home and use green energy.

The Amish are now using solar power for their homes.
Let me say it again ('cause I know I needed to hear it again, my mind was blown at this news). The Amish have outfitted their homes with solar panels to provide electricity.

WTF? I never would have thought of the Amish using solar power. Darn stereotypes!

My first reaction was to ask, what on earth could they be using the solar power for? The Amish do not use the technologies that we use - no phones, internet, tv - so the question was begging to be asked. I had to sit through approximately 30 minutes of programming while they told the history of the Amish people before I got my answer, I'll cut to the chase here in a minute. I found it fascinating the amount of work that the weather channel put in to researching the history of the Amish (and what a diverse culture it is! A most amazing group of people, go do some checking out of their history, especially if you're a history buff like me).

It always takes forever for the background fluff. I want the point now, I can research later.

Why the solar power then? Why to charge batteries to power the mandatory signal lights on their horse-drawn buggies. Public transit laws require that they have signal lights on their vehicles, and so they need a battery to power these said lights. There were some other things as well, some cooking and refrigeration processes are augmented by the solar power.
The weather channel as I said before, went into deep detail on the history of the Amish. I had never personally done much deep research into their history, but upon hearing some of what the weather channel presented I feel that I will soon be looking a little bit deeper into their history.
The world really isn't coming to an end, and the Amish are not turning from their way of life, rather, they have found ways to continue in their beliefs and still keep pace with the world.
Fascinating yes? I thought so.

It is all rather fascinating what all TWC goes through for their programming. I think I watch their tornado shows more than anything else.
Also, have you ever wondered how family friendly it seems to be? It never fails that at least one of the female meteorologists has to be pregnant and the rest follow suit.
