How much do you judge someone based on their avatar?

I sometimes find I have a tendency to make judgements based on a user's avatar, even though I don't do it purposely. For instance, if someone has an amusing avatar, then I assume that they are a light-hearted or witty person.

Do you also find yourself doing this?

If they have a very generic avatar, then I generally get a feeling that the post is going to be quite boring.

Yes I think everyone does it to some extent. The avatar is pretty much a reflection of that person's taste and personality.

It counts for 40% of how much I'm going to judge them.

Re: How much do you judge someone based on their avatar?

The few avatars i've had here so far show exactly what I'm all about Then again, there ARE people who have avatars that don't really say anything about someone.

Other than that, I tend to completely ignore posts of users who don't have avatars at all.

People who generally use smileys for no or little reason can be read alot easier as well. (I seriously over-use and )

My only regret is you can have only one avatar at the same time...

Re: How much do you judge someone based on their avatar?

I look at the combination of writing style and avatar to get an impression of a poster's personality. Just the avatar alone doesn't do much (unless it's one of those pre-set avatars that the ZU forum gives you as an option) -- and then I assume that the member's probably new.

I change my avatar daily; I think that reflects that I've got a very complicated personality (or it just shows how fickle I can be).

For the folks who don't use an avatar at all, I just look at their sentence structure, grammar, that sort of thing. Syntax says a lot.

I haven't changed my avatar since 2003.

Whenever I see an image that looks like your avatar, I think of you. I can't imagine you changing your avatar, but if you did, I'd be REALLY interested in seeing what you'd choose.

Yeah, I judge based on avatar and posting style. Even though it's unrealistic, I tend to subconsciously assume people look like their avatars too.

That's bad to assume, lol. Jill Valentine is my avatar, and I look nothing like her, considering I have a penis.

I'll form a committee to research the possibility of organizing efforts to put this into action.

Avatars can actually mean a difference between how I treat someone I don't really know. For example, if they have dragons in it I'll assume they have an inflated ego and will work on stomping it. Not that that is an actual example, but I think it gets the point across >__>

Well as long as you keep using the anime version of Goku, I got nothing against you, then

Re: How much do you judge someone based on their avatar?

To some degree. If I see Inuyasha in there, it means "stay away". If I see Naruto, it means "stay the hell away". If I see a Zelda-something-or-other, I generally assume you're new. Still, I do tend to focus more on names and ranks than pretty pictures, at least in identifying people. There are very few I can pick out solely based on their name-image.

Anyway, we all know I've got the best avatar here.

Hmmm...if I squint at your avatar, it kind of does look like a guy...a rather feminine-looking one, but still...

In Japan, the borders cross over so often it fails to matter anymore.

I barely ever look at someone's avatar. It's normally their signature that I judge people by.

That is the same for me. I use it to a good degree.

This thread makes me want to change mine again.
