Simple Mac Facts
In my travels around the Internet, I've noticed that a large number of people don't understand a couple simple facts about Macintosh computers. I have written this to help all Windows users understand about Macs. It seems that they don't seem to want to learn, and are content to be ignorant. This cannot continue.
To alleviate this, I have compiled a list of four very simple, but very important Mac facts that all Windows users should know. Please read them carefully. (Pay special attention to number one. This is the one that I see Windows users doing the most.) 1. It's "Mac," not "MAC." For some reason, Windows users insist on capitalizing all three letters, when this is not correct in any way, shape, or form. Mac is not an acronym.* It is short for Macintosh. I can't speak for all Mac users, but it annoys me to no end when Windows users do this. Just stop it. 2. The company that makes Macintosh computers is not called Macintosh. They are called Apple. They also make some very nice software in addition to their computers. 3. MHz is not the only factor in the speed of a computer. Macs have less MHz**, but that does not make them significantly slower. In some cases they are faster, and in some cases they are about the same, even though the clockspeed is quite different. 4. It isn't a good idea to get into Mac VS. PC debates with Mac users. They are fiercely loyal to their Macs, and will not back down. *Unless you're talking about networking, where MAC stands for Media Access Control. **Or GHz is the proper term now, I guess. NOTE: Mac users are encouraged to spread this to all Windows users they know, in the hope that they may learn something. Just remember to put my name on it...

Re: Simple Mac Facts
I knew about all of this. The only thing is that the fastest Macs are faster than other Windows-based PCs. Why the heck do you think they're used for 3D-rendering, image modification, video editing, and audio editing so much? I'd use one if it wasn't for their lack of games, because I'm into image modification (Photoshop, etc.) and possibly 3D-rendering in the future.
Oh, and before anyone says that they don't... Macs. Support. Multi-button. Mice. o_O; |

Re: Simple Mac Facts
I knew that... and I don't think that Macs are inferior. They're just more suited for purposes other than what I use them for.
...Yaknow, come to think of it, back in the mid '90s, I used Macs much more than PCs.

Re: Simple Mac Facts
I used to have an Apple IIe, the oldest of the old... With the REAL floppy disks, those were cool
I use Macs for newspaper stuff... they are good with picture editing and layout design... as long as they are in good shape. My school has crappy ones, so people say they hate macs... i could get used to them, if they weren't so crappy

Re: Simple Mac Facts
Oh we have a REALLY old Mac, a power Mac that is as old as I am, maybe a little younger, about 13 years old. Definately not as old as Lozzies there, but it's still pretty old. I am a Mac fan, I grew up on a Mac, when we got our first Windows computer I was afraid to use it for fear of betraying my Power Mac. I actually never called it a Mac. I either called it an Apple, Apple Macintosh, or just Macintosh.
But in no way are they inferior, and I knew they supported multibutton mice... I had a 4 button trackball for it. Never used it though, too... trackbally. Not fun to use, and they are very expecsive at that. They still make that same one today, it's like 100 bucks. And I end with one final note: Macs are awsome. Not that I am opposed to Windows at all though.

Re: Simple Mac Facts
One really good thing about Mac is that not too many viruses are directed toward Mac.

Re: Simple Mac Facts
Thank God there's some other Mac fans on here. Everywhere I go it seems as though I'm the only person using one. My Dad runs a design agency, so I've always had a Mac and its software for free, which is great, because the one thing that puts me off about them is the prices for everything.
I have the iMac PowerPC G4. I love it to pieces, especially the moveable screen and everything. I also recently got Mac OS 10.3 Panther, which is just... out of this world. Seriously, the Windows users really don't know what they're missing. And there's nothing more annoying than the tired old Macs vs PCs debate. There's no comparison. A Mac isn't a PC, so you can't compare them. Sure, you can compare a Packard Bell to a Compaq or something, but comparing a Mac to a PC is like comparing a lampshade to an alarm clock, they're two completely different things. And that's the one 'thing' PC people can't seem to grasp from my experience. I admit, in a lot of ways it makes sense to have a PC. They're easy to use, and are great for home or personal use. Macs are much more work orientated and everything like that (find a professional designer who doesn't use one)... but I love having mine as the home computer. It makes me stand out. Like, everyone of my friends has a PlayStation 2, and I'm the only one with a Nintendo. But who made the right decision in the end? That's right, me. Actually that's quite a good analogy. PCs and PlayStations, Macs are Nintendos. Catch my drift? ![]() |

Re: Simple Mac Facts
I love Mac's to death, but I can never afford one. I think they are extermemly easy to use, but I'm afraid if I ever buy a Mac, then people would want to talk about all the different components on it (like the memory, and all that technical stuff), and I'm not a real tech person to sit down and talk computers.
I'd be one of the silly girls who say "I bought one because it's purrdy XD) I grew up using mac's, and I still stand by them. Counterpoint, I don't feel one bit guilty for using a PC though. A computer is a computer in my eyes, and whatever lets me do my artwork, play my games, and surf the net is good enough for me ^_^ |

Re: Simple Mac Facts
Double_A Have you ever used a Mac? I'm not talking about the ones at school, I'm talking at least a G4. They are reliable. Never had one freeze up on me. And the G5, oh man that thing is great. What do people talk about with windows...freezing up. So that'd make Windows Suck. Now that you hate them, i can't help that, your stubborn. Yes they are expensive, but the best computer in the world isn't gonna be cheap. that you like windows, i can't help you there either, your stubborn. and the last thing you said...did you stay up all night thinking of that one? congrats...your retarded.

Re: Simple Mac Facts
But Double_A, Do you even have any evidence to back up your statement about Macs being sucky?
I would gladly switch to any Mac, providing they are efficient, which most Macs are. PC's tend to be slow half the time, whilst Macs use its power to the max... I'm no expert, but Macs practically are better than PC's, minus the fact there isn't many games on the Mac market, as its mainly a software hog. Most software for the Mac tends to be Applications, such as Graphic programs, or 3D rendering tools.
