Re: It takes over 25 thousand steps to prove that 2+2=4
Wooow.
Um...cool. And to think it takes like 5 to prove that 1=2

42 steps to prove that 1 is real?!
Wow, I'm so going to hate Uni math.

Anyway, that is the longest proof that 2+2=4; I don't know how long the shortest proof is, but I imagine it's quite manageable. |

It's in my goals. It's like saying "why walk" if someone broke their leg 2 years ago.

I wonder how many steps it takes to prove the existance of God...

If this isn't making things overly complicated, I don't know what is.
It's very easy to prove that 2+2 equals 4. "You've got two pens on a table. You put two more and what do you have all together? 4."

Depends what system of measurement we use.

1. Chuch Norris
What Abby said is true. This is just kind of stupid. Yes, some things in math should have top be proven like Pythagorean Therum. However since number are realy just a creation of humakind trhere should be no reason to prove somehting like that. Here I'll make that proof in two steps: Step 1: here is one line | here is also one line | There is one line and another. Step 2: Count them

Re: It takes over 25 thousand steps to prove that 2+2=4
If you know that 1+1=2, you know one thing.
If you know why 1+1=2, you know many things. But if know the truth the demands 1+1=2, then you might just know everything. If mathematics has a solid foundation in first order logic, then the complete description of truth in the universe of our experience - despite its nigh unfathomable size and seemingly infinite intricacies - reduces to a handful of simple notions any human being can hold easily in their mind: understanding completely. The power and beauty of this idea are simply flooring, and that this ridiculously small and trivial display should be so intimidating is no surprise at all. Math wr0x ;P |
