Re: Dreams

I can't remember ever having a lucid dream but it sounds awesome. Sometimes i'll be asleep, but awrae of my sleeping, and the n i hear a voice in my head, a slightly different version of my own saying once: you're asleep. wake up and then i wake up. I wish i had Lucid dreams.

Speaking of dreams, i was talking about dreams with my friend and apparently he oce had a dream about a wednesday when he went to school, had his normal school dya, his normal routine. Then (in hsi dream) he went to sleep. Woke up, thought it was Thursday. Worst. Dream. Ever.

I've done that a few times, too, as have others. Kinda annoying, huh? I remember in a dream once I saw a notebook in a store, and said, "Hey, I could buy that to record my dreams in".

You're not paralyzed all night. REM comes and goes in cycles, and it's only during REM that you're paralyzed and you dream. The REM cycles get longer as the night goes on, thus your dreams do as well.

That just means you're sleepwalking. I've done that a few times too, but I don't do it often. To my knowledge, I haven't done it in quite some time. I've actually woken up once during a time I was sleepwalking, and went "...Wait, what am I doing?!"

Re: Dreams

Just last night, I dreamt my apartment was on fire, and everyone in the building was telling me to get the hell out, but I stayed, frantically stuffing foot fetishist magazines into a random duffel bag. I got to the "getaway vehichle", but it was packed with Amish people. No kidding.

Re: Dreams

I remember couple of years ago, I began sleep walking. I am not sure how many times it had happened since I don't remember anything.

My cousin saw me walking outside the garden at 2am O_o

Well he thought it was some robber who got into the back garden...lol

I once woke up from a bad dream and felt like I was falling. Like, the bed just disappeared from beneath me and I was freefalling.

That happens to me too! I'll be running in my dream and all of a sudden for some odd reason I'll run off a cliff (I'm not suicidal so don't worry.) and I'll be falling in my dream. Right before I hit the bottom, I'll wake up and kind of have some weird spasm like gasp. Kind of like getting a nanosecond jolt of low electricity flow and coming awake. It's pretty strange. If we die in our dream, do we actually die in real life? What we feel in our dream do we feel in real life?

So then I'm somehow moving myself consciously? I never remember when I move myself. When are we truly asleep, in which that we don't dream but don't pay attention to things around us?

Well, I was shot in one dream, and, needless to say, I'm not dead. I didn't even feel pain when it happened. Like I mentioned at some point, it seemed like watching a movie. I think the idea that you'd die in real life if you die in a dream is ridiculous.

However, regarding what we "feel"... That's something that's hard to explain. Since our senses in real life are interpretations made by the brain, it's the exact same thing in dreams-- our brain is interpreting sensations. In that regard, the things we feel in dreams are just as "real" as what we feel in real life. Of course, the main difference is that if we get physically hurt in a dream, we do not in real life. It just might feel like it. Also, we can experience different sensations in dreams, since they're not bound by physics, but by our own experience and imagination.
At least, this is what I think.

That's possible, but I'd assume you just unconsciously do it. I imagine most people roll around in their sleep by default, but it is possible to be awake and do it but not remember afterwards (especially if it's in the middle of the night).

As for when you actually zonk out, I'm not sure. I'm sure you can find a sleep chart of the cycles somewhere, but it's different for everyone.

Yeah, that's what I meant because I was hit on the leg with something in my dream and I definitely felt it but of course I didn't suffer any injuries or that would be really weird.

Has anybody tried to hurt themselves in a lucid dream, just to see if they could feel it? And if they did, would the brain react by trying to heal the body?

I've experienced emotions in dreams that I'm sure don't exist.

I have absolutely no idea. I'm pretty sure I've felt things like pain and physical fatigue in dreams before, but never anything major. This is an interesting idea... anyone have the guts to try it?

I'm not sure I have, since I usually have a way to describe them... Hmm... I say that it's probably bound by our imagination and experience because, really, it doesn't make sense for dreams to contain things that we can't imagine (i.e., that are outside our comprehension... your mind can't know for sure about something without experiencing it). When people perform "experiments" in dreams, it's safe to say the outcome is what the mind imagines would happen.

Anyone?
Umm... I guess next time I have a lucid dream I'll cut off one of my fingers(if I remember), and find out. If it's really painful, I could wake myself up. Anyone else up for this?

I guess that's like trying to comprehend four spatial dimensions(which I try very often), the human brain just isn't capable of anything it wasn't meant to do.

Re: Dreams

I've had them a few times, but when I figure out that I'm dreaming, I start thinking "oh wait. I'm awake. Let me just get up now, what's the point in dreaming?"

I usually lucid dream by the time I'm about to wake up anyway.

I honestly don't know if I would be that gutsy. Even if I know there aren't real consequences. I guess your mind would make it hurt as badly as you think it will. Which is probably a good reason for me NOT to try it.

Ever seen the movie "Waking Life"? One of the guys in that mentions 360-vision. I thought, "I don't care what you think you can do in dreams; that's impossible".

Don't do that! XD What a waste of opportunity!

But you can wake yourself up at any point.

I haven't seen that movie, but seeing 360 degrees is probably impossible for the brain. It'd be interesting to push those limits to see what can be done, though.

Seriously! You know how many people struggle to have stable lucid dreams?

Re: Dreams

About the self inflicted pain in lucid dreams: Don't try to hurt yourself, people with recurring nightmares sometimes die of shock or their brains thinks that they're actually being hurt.

^ Wow, really? If that's true, that's quite a shock.
I imagine somehow it wouldn't happen to me, though... I mean, I was SHOT in a normal dream, and it didn't phase me one bit.

"By definition, [shock] is the result of a traumatic event..."
That's possible in nightmares because the person is not aware that nothing they see is real.
