How the **** do I find $150,000 for college tuition?

Simply put. I need help. Columbia University is my ultimate reach school right now, and that's pretty much how expensive it's gonna be. Anyone who can direct to a kickass scholarship or have a pay off strategy, your imput would be most appreciated.

But seriously, what kind of school makes you pay 150,000 to let you go there?

Unless you can win the lottery or rob a bank and can get away with it, you might have to set your sights a little lower and go to a college you can afford. I wouldn't advise anything like loans, since £150,000 is a hell of a lot and you'll spend years trying to repay that much.

In Engleberry, if you can prove that you're really intelligent -- the Universities will pay for you to go there. Especially if you can row, or play on their sports teams.

The way forward, I'd guess, would be to sell your education to a company. They educate you, and you work for them for three years. There are loads of roads forward, you just need to think creatively.

I'm talking about around $37,500 a year, making my total that much. It's still alot. Schools in New York are expensive. I was also looking at NYU.

Just when you're wanting to spend a lot of money, by establishing yourself with rent and a vehicle and a wife and whatnot. Y'know -- when you're earning and spending a meagre amount, and actual income after necessary expenditure and taxation is at an alltime low.

If the economy hasn't crashed altogether by that time, and you're $150,000 in debt with no hope of clearing it at all if you want to leave the house or eat meals.

Well, I hate to break it to you, but if he didn't get a student loan, I'm pretty sure it would take him the same amount of time to get enough money himself.

Plus there's the fact that just because you go to a good college doesn't guarantee that you'll immediately end up with a high paying job to pay off that loan.

This is the one fact most people tend to overlook.


The so-called "importance" of college is pretty overestimated, really. But that's a whole other topic that's probably best saved for another time.

Hence why he made the thread to direct him to a scholarship.

Why are you talking really smart as if you've done the whole thing before?

Do you honestly think he didn't think of getting a loan? Would you want to be $150,000 in debt at the age of 21 or so? Do you want to go to university at an old age after working straight for those long years?

If you find yourself in the same predicament, I hope everyone responds with the same answers you gave. That's if you even make it to university.

If you want to try living as a fresh graduate with what will most likely not be a fantastic paying job, having to buy food, pay rent etc. with a $150, 000 load hovering over you, be my guest, however, I'm sure there must be a better way...

Unfortunatly, with my lack of knowledge of the American education system, there is little advice I can offer... What field are you going into? Perhaps you'll find someone who'll pay some of the fee's in said field. I know Medical Students get some money from the NHS in the UK, so it's a possibility... Sorry for my uselessness.
