does anyone here practice swordsmanship in real life?

I had nuthin better to do, so I wanted to see if anyone who is a zelda fan can actually use a sword in real life. I wanna see other peoples views on warrior's honor and fighting styles that you use or assimilate.

Well depends what you mean by that. I fence (which is sword fighting) as a sport for 5 years now.

Re: does anyone here practice swordsmanship in real life?

yeah, I mean any kind of sword fighting styles and sword types.
I prefer katanas. I also like ************** swords, which are REALLY heavy swords, and are swung like basball bats. and if you want the definition of pain, look up the german flamberge. awsome.

Re: does anyone here practice swordsmanship in real life?

ummm lets see i fence for fun, i have a small collection of katanas (about maybe 18 of them) i have a old bronze sword and a really old artifact sword thats in really good shape so i take it into the forest and slash the trees. when people go in to the forest they get scared when they see the marks. with that old sword i'm actually quite good.

Re: does anyone here practice swordsmanship in real life?

As far as swordsmanship goes, I dont do anything official or professional. Me and a freind just fence outside for the hell of it.

The only thing I ever did for real was staff-fighting (gah, I cant even remember what its really called) but I quit that a few years ago. I still find it fun though, I still catch myself swinging broomsticks around and stuff...

Re: does anyone here practice swordsmanship in real life?

No way, but I am thinking of taking fencing due to Double_A's impression of fencing on me, which he always talkied about until I took a very short fencing lesson and it seemed fun. I do not own any swords... much less have used a real one.

Re: does anyone here practice swordsmanship in real life?

i dont have any real swords. my mom has this strange idea that i would kill half the people in our neighborhood if i did. I train at least half an hour a day. with a weighted bar. fun. i also have a really bad habit of trying to forge my scrap from training into swords. really crappy swords. fire is fun. big fire=better swords. unfortunatally i have very little material for building a fire, and no hammer and anvil either. Im unstable.

I really really wish I did. But, I don't have the money to get lessons and all that money eating stuff. I do use a practice sword when I am at home though...

Re: does anyone here practice swordsmanship in real life?

I happen to be a Recommended Black Belt in TaeKwonDo, and I'm very gifted at it... no, really.

And with it, comes my imagination for weapons: I know a bit of sword fighting, and I study a *lot* when it comes to fighting, so I know a bit about the sword and its capable techniques.

Right now, I'm working on the Elven Longsword from the Lord of the Rings movie (the one with the VERY long handle seen at Helm's Deep in TTT).

No, really, I'm an actual martial artist!

Re: does anyone here practice swordsmanship in real life?

Heh, so far not alot of people are properly trained, yet

I do Tai Chi, and is close to advancing onto sword movements. But you can still incorporate the sword into the other movements, and that I have been taught

I also want to learn how to fight with a pole, with it being so versatile and all.
