Wow. I find that statement offensive. It's "sad" to use Christmas as a way to celebrate family? Last I checked:
1: Christmas was superimposed on set pagan holidays that celebrated family and the winter solstice. So technically, why are Christians celebrating the birth of Jesus on a holiday already recognized for celebrating family?
2. Again, some Christmas traditions go back before the Christians slapped their agenda in the pagan days of celebrations. If you really want to celebrate Christmas the good old-fashioned Christian way, then no lights, no tree, no stockings, no family time, no presents, and spend your time at the church.
3. This I agree with. Actually telling someone you love them by saying "I love you" or giving hugs and kisses is great way to express how much you care for them. But it also helps the ones you love out with a small present for clothes when they need to restock their sock and underwear supply.

Don't go to a Black Friday doorbuster if you are a weakling.

And raven is right, gift giving and spending time with the family are secular christmas traditions, the only actual christian celebration on christmas is "christ mass" which is done in a church, not around a tree decked with lights(another secular tradition), and not with presents(another secular tradition).

And not only that, he was a temporary employee and not a full-time guy. He had no idea that his first day of employment for holiday shopping would end before it even got started.

People shouldn't be stampeding in anyway.

He was the one trying to unlock the doors. The mob broke the doors, trampled the guy and a few others including other workers helping the injured, an continued shopping. It is not the employees fault here but the shopping mob.

Exactly. People don't expect raging idiots to come ramming through the doors to shop for their spoiled brats. Even if it is, "Black Friday". I'm sure it just caught him off guard.

Perhaps they were trying to raise a WAAAGH!

If they broke down the door, then he didn't need to be around for them to get in.

If they rushed in when he unlocked the door, again he could have taken steps to avoid this sort of thing, not just again, nonchalantly rushing in.

He only has himself to blame, although he can't do that, being dead and all.

And obviously someone has to be blamed for the idiocy, and it is supposedly bad taste to put blame where it is due if the target is a dead person.

Furthermore, it is completely unnatural for someone to stomp on a prone person.
So it is a bit extremist for people to be here claiming such a thing occured.

And yea, it IS expected of people to rush in on Black Friday. It's cliched even.

Maybe it was a had-to-be-there moment.

If I was in his situation, I'de refuse to open the door in the first place.

But you're right, IF he was a weakling, frail, or old, etc. Then I would of gotten a tougher and strong young man to open the door for me.

I could of taken them.

I'm just saying, it's nothing short of sensationalist to claim that people went out intending to kill someone else.

He could have made a safer choice, instead he made a risky and ignorant choice given the circumstances.

Simply ask yourself, "What would I do?", you will come to the conclusion that he didn't make an intelligent choice at all.

If I saw an immense crowd of people standing at a door waiting to get in, standing out there in very cold weather, I would think carefully about how to go about the situation.

They aren't the idiots. A bit callous perhaps, but not idiots.

They didn't expect someone who was oblivious to danger opening the door.

Besides, there are really good deals at the doorbusters, though walmart goes about it wrong, while other stores actually hand out tickets before you even get in, no ticket no deal.
So where you are in line means nothing.

he was only doing his job, he probably does it every year without getting harmed, how was he supposed to know that this time the crowd would kill him?

that's like blaming the victim in a murder case. "Oh, well, he shouldn't have gotten the murderer angry, it's all his fault. He should have stayed home, or brought some self-defense, or worked out more."

I agree that the blame of the fault leans more towards that of the shoppers.

However, I don't think the guy actually died... Or did he?

Murder is defined by intent to do harm.

There was no intent, therefore there can be no comparison.

From what I heard he was a first timer, but unless he was a new born he would know about Black Friday, it's a big deal in America after all.


Like I said, he had bad situational assessment skills.

We don't really have much for clear judgment. It's the sense of the situation. You must be understandable. Something similar may come around to you one day.
