That's a rather short-sighted view of things. There is always a use for money. As already mentioned, flying lessons are expensive, and there's no harm in having some savings to dip into when you go to college, which is also expensive.
Spending less time with a person makes them miss you more. Another way of saying it is "familiarity breeds contempt" - there's such a thing as TOO much of a good thing, and spending too much time with a loved one will make you restless and find them more and more irritating. It's why many married couples take separate vacations: they get a break from each other and have stories to tell each other when they get back. Having a job will mean you have something fulfilling to do that doesn't involve your girlfriend, and so there's less chance of the two of you getting sick of each other.
