Gauges anyone?

So I've started gauging my ears (only to 8's so far) and I love to browse the plethora of earrings and gauges all over the stores I visit.

Who here has gauges, how big are they, and how big are you planning to go? Any extraordinary gauges need pictures so that we don't have to sit here and guess what you're talking about.

I myself am thinking of going to 6's, but who knows. I just now put in the 8 gauges a few days ago and as usual my ears are red and all that nasty stuff that happens with piercings... For some reason it always happens 2 days after I either get a new piercing or gauge them...

Re: Gauges anyone?

I personally haven't upgraded from normals to gauges but some of my my buddies have gone through with em. One of them is on 4's. Another one is on 8's and plans to stay there.

Umm... wtf? What's a gauge? Is it like being emo with your ears?

I'm not great at explaining them, nor am I THAT experienced with them (or at all, really), but it's when you stretch out piercings, pretty much. You put in wider piercings and after a while, put in wider ones and keep going until you reach the desired size.

That said, I haven't got gauges, nor do I have any desire to stretch out my earlobes. :<

Re: Gauges anyone?

They call that "gauging"? Well I guess I've been doing it all along, although I was doing it under the guise of self-mutilation.

Re: Gauges anyone?

A bunch of my friends have stretched their ears, but I don't think any of them have gone past the 'point of no return' so to speak. I don't have any piercings, so I can't do it at all!

Re: Gauges anyone?

I'm not planning on going much bigger than 6, because of that very reason "the point of no return". But if I could go to 00's without the consequences of not being able to wear normal earrings I totally would.

I've been told different things by different people on how big you can go before your ears are permanently stretched, but based on what I've read I believe 2's are about the highest you can go... Maybe it just depends on the person and how long they've had the gauges.

I'm not huge into plugs, but if they look cool than I like them I suppose. For some reason the tapers just look better to me. Not the straight ones though, of course.

Re: Gauges anyone?

I can stick dinner plates in my ears.

Just kidding. Guages are definitely in the top ten most disgusting things people purposefully do to their bodies. Seriously, in ten years, no company is going to hire anyone with 5-inch loops for ear lobes.

One time I saw this guy downtown who stuck dice in his earlobes. He wanted to sell me marijuana. I said no because I'm a good boy. I asked him for one of the dice, though. My monopoly game is missing one.

Hah, I agree that going too large is kinda gross (unless you're one of the few that can pull it off).

When I take out my 8's, you can't even tell the difference between mine and regular piercings. Except in the right angle you can see through them. lol

Re: Gauges anyone?

When I was in college, I had my ear stretched only a little. Around 6mm or so. I didn't want to go any higher than that because I didn't want any permanent effects from it. I got bored of it soon enough and just wanted to go back to a standard earring.

A guy I know got them really big, and he now looks like Droopy the dog when he takes the tunnels. It's hideous, and I remind him of this on a semi-regular basis.

Body modification is the cool thing these days. Leave it to trendhopping teenage bastards to ruin everything in the world.

You know, there are actually reasons beyond them looking awesome that people pierce themselves. This is why I don't wear any of my piercings anymore, because it was a little lame just having people comment on how cool they looked, and one time while I was with a group of acquaintances at a punk show four out of six of us had the same piercing, lol.

If you're thinking about getting a piercing that is weird or something, don't take superficial things solely into account, because you may think it looks cool now, but in a few years you probably won't.

On topic, no, I don't have my ears gauged and never will.
