Early on in ZU history, there was a group of theorists who decided to form an "official theorizing group". The UWM.
They were prosperous for many years, and how could they not be? They were all the serious ZU theorists. LoZ Historian being the most notable. (Funny guy)
Anyways, they went on for a few years, but then something went wrong. Theorists started diviating from the traditions of a linear timeline. The splittists had emerged, but considering their relative lack of experience, they weren't considered by the UWM. (Yet due to sheer numbers they pressed on). The UWM then became strict Linearists.
Not to be outdone, The Black Knight (best drama creator I've known) and Quick_Silver20 (I think that's his name) organized the ASE (Allied Splittist Elders). This led to many dramatic and rather mean spirited debates. (Neither could prove the other wrong).
Well, then someone incharge thought, "We can reconcile this by making the Bombers! (A group of theorists who basically wrote 1 page papers to get a little banner and say they're better than us.)" Now, if you remember correctly, the UWM had been around wasting time forever on theorizing, so a one page paper for them is nothing. Sure prominent members of the ASE tried to get in, but for some reason they did not make the cut. This just made the already elitist UWM more stuck up.
Once again TBK did not like this. He made the Killer Bees for his ASE members. He put in the best (aka the closest to him) theorists in the ASE, but very few really cared.
Then the split was confirmed in the timeline, and a lot of the UWM left. The others continued theorizing (but no more timelines really). Then ZI came around and they all left. The UWM just walked out claiming ZU had decreased in quality when really it just wasn't what they were used to.

That's pretty much what I meant when I easily summed it up by saying "Dark times," "burning," and "The Bombers rising from the ashes."
I remember very well. Both sides tried to enlist me, but I never joined. For one, too much drama. And two, I thought it was pointless arguing about a time line and said I would wait for the
official confirmation.
My stance on the pointless bickering was:
"Sit down. Shut up. And
play some games."
I also remember
LoZ Historian going out in a "blaze of glory."
I was so happy to see The Bombers come out of this after the two groups dissolved. I was even going to join them.
