The Oceania Meet Up - 'Cause Calling A Kiwi An Aussie Is Insulting...Apparently.

The Oceania Meet Up - 'Cause Calling A Kiwi An Aussie Is Insulting

Just thought I'd pop this here, wasn't sure if wrap up threads go in the Meetup forum or in GCC or whatever, so, as always, if it needs moving, that's fine.

The last two weeks have been an absolute blast. Let's go through a play-by-play commentary of events.

Okay, so Monday the 16th June a lady some of you may know around these parts came to my small town in Outback Australia. It was of course the wonderful Liah. I greeted her with a lovingly detailed sign that screamed " 'SUP HOMIE ". After getting over the shock of how tiny my town was, it was time to DDR. I lost horribly of course. Then it was time to have some dinner, so off we went to the local RSL (Returned Servicemen's League), the best place for a feed in most towns.

This is when I learned a very interesting fact: Liah is very impatient when it comes to food. It was taking the usual amount of time as it does to cook a damn good chicken parmagiana but, geez, do not go near that woman when there's food and waiting mentioned in the same sentence.

Look at the anger in her eyes: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...d/S6300477.jpg

After finally getting food, and therefore not maiming me horribly, it was time to go back home. Now, she says she's an insomniac but that girl slept and slept and slept and slept and slept....and slept. Oh sure, 'jet lag', she says, but whatever, I know the real truth now, she's trying to be cool like all the other kids, it's cute in its way.

The next day, Tuesday 17th June was spent doing pretty much nothing except watching terrible movies. Ah, Megalodon: Shark Attack 3, truly a supreme example of the cinema art at its finest. Also in there was Commando (*drops baddie off cliff* "I let him go"), Piranha (a film in which nothing happens and there is only one piranha seen in the whole movie), Emperor's New Groove (which I guess wasn't terrible, but Liah just wanted to make me watch it 'cause she's mean like that and I'm not a big fan of Disney) and Dragonball: The Magic Begins (Ah, the live action 1988 adventures of Monkey Boy, Westwood, Sparkle and whatever other names they decided to call the characters for some weird reason). I cooked a bolognaise dinner that night for her and two other friends I invited over. Wasn't half bad.

Wednesday was spent doing absolutely nothing. A lazy and relaxing day in which I never got out of my (very awesome) pyjamas.

Then came Thursday. And we were off to Bathurst to meet Hylian Z. 14 hours in the same car as Liah. Can it get any worse, I mean, better? She just loves to toot the driver's horn as I quickly learned. We stopped at a few tiny towns and you could tell she was a city girl, she had the heels, the glamour, the...whatever the hell that thing Azzy gave her is called...http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...d/S6300500.jpg That photo was taken just on sunrise on the side of the Mitchell Highway just south of Charleville.

Oh and her reaction to the number of dead kangaroos was hilarious. We saw five live ones over the two weeks out in the wild and like a hundred dead ones. She thought I was joking about the number of dead kangaroos when I informed her of this fact prior to her visit. Soon she realised that I wasn't joking.

So yeah, we got to Hylian Z's place (after a few wrong turns that had nothing to do with my absolutely excellent map...Liah will explain in her post). And what's the first thing on the agenda? A score that we all had to settle. So in went Melee to the Cube and the Battle for Champion of the Universe was underway. I conclude it was a draw.

Even though I lost http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...d/S6300517.jpg

But then I won http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...d/S6300513.jpg

Which made Liah lose http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...d/S6300514.jpg

Hylian Z was just cheap. Damn you, Falco and your blaster, make me lose so many times, *grumble grumble* Nothing to do with the fact that I lost 'cause I wasn't very good.

Now for some reason, perhaps drunk on madness, or influenced by the film we were watching (Vampire Hunter D), they each succumbed to their thirst for blood. I, innocently I must say, dozing off during the course of the film was awoken quite rudely. With two pillows to the face. The blood dribbling from my nose disagreed with their initial amusement. But it's okay if they hit me 'cause they say they love me. And we were buddies again http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...d/S6300535.jpg

A quick gadabout around Bathurst was in order the next day. We drove around Mt Panorama (it's a race track) and I completed the course in record slow time. I stocked up on all the DVDs I could as it's a rare occasion for me to be somewhere that actually has shops. Oh, and we saw some kid with his hair dyed to look like a bee for some reason. That night we saw The Incredible Hulk at the cinematorium and also there we found out that Liah can beat Hylian Z at Street Fighter 2.

Then it was Saturday and an early rise was in order to travel in to Sydney to meet up with a few different people. First off, we went to Knightlark's place, as that's where we were staying as she was kind enough to let us intrude on her quiet weekend. Many thanks to her and her partner for letting us stay there. Then to Supanova Pop Culture Expo we went.

We looked for that rascal EA outside for about half an hour before we surmised he must already be inside (an incorrect assumption as we later found out). We found ourselves in a seminar with the voice of Goku, Sean Schemmel, a very very funny man and enjoyed ourselves muchly, that is unless one particular nerd in attendance decided to speak. That man was intolerable, he really knew his Dragonball and you could tell he was enjoying the presence of Goku just a liiiiitttle too much.

We also ran into a rather menacing bloke, probably the only person who could make our Liah cower in fear http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...redofVader.jpg

But the warm and fuzzies of this cuddly chap chased away any fears of being force-choked http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...nicandAlex.jpg

After wandering around for a little while we spotted a familiar looking person and with Liah's ability to be very extroverted (which I successfully battled against when trying to take me to the Coke Zero girls after I mentioned they were hot, so that she could inform them of my opinion of their very delightfully proportionate features), we found out it was indeed the EA we were looking for.

EA and Liah had themselves a turn at Brawl a full five days before its Australian release. Hylian Z and I chose to wait until we had the game in our own hands in our own homes to experience it for the first time. Liah wanted to do SingStar but, EA, Hylian Z and I, fearing that everyone else would feel inadequate after hearing our manly yet soothingly sexy singing voices, chose not to outdo everyone, so poor Liah had to sing by herself. But she did fantabulously.

EA and Hylian Z had a go at outdoing each other on their DSes, Hylian Z lost, something about never playing those games before, pish posh, I say!

And then it was time for a sit down in the foyer.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...heaandAlex.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...orkandAlex.jpg

And before we knew it, the day had come to an end and it was time to say our goodbyes. It was a fantastic day I must say. It was great to meet EA, a really nice bloke he is.

That night, we just watched a movie and ate pizza back at Knightlark's pad. Hylian Z's commentary on the film was interesting. I'll never watch The Transporter ever again without thinking about juice boxes.

The next day was all about doing the tourist thing. We went to Paddy's Markets where I got an awesome Batman T-shirt (he's punching The Joker), went to Darling Harbour and got a Water Taxi over to the Opera House, taking us under the Sydney Harbour Bridge as we went.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...d/S6300548.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...d/S6300562.jpg

Liah forever left her mark on Australia at that Opera House. She totally broke the tap in the toilets. After she came back out to the steps of the Opera House where were seated we saw she was blushing. Apparently, the tap wouldn't turn on...so she hit it...hard. And it turned on. But wouldn't turn off. So she made a hasty exit.

So we sat on the steps for a little while just talking and conducting an experiment to see if a seagull would eat a cigarette butt if you put it in a Subway sandwich (it won't eat it).

Oh and a creepy statue guy caught Liah's attention but he was paying attention to everyone but her. It was hilarious.

Then back to Knightlark's house it was. Sydney has some awesome trains, they've got two decks and everything. Here's Knightlark and her partner on the train home http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...d/S6300575.jpg

Then that night we went to see the football match, Australia Vs China. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...d/S6300585.jpg

Australia lost 1 - 0. And Liah likes to laugh at point at whichever side has misfortune befall them. It was a great atmosphere and a good game despite China's host of "injuries". Really, the stretcher was a miracle worker 'cause as soon as they were off the field they were back on again.

Then the next day it was back to Bathurst to drop Hylian Z off at his place. But we couldn't leave him so soon, so we stayed another night at his house. But soon it was time to go for real.

Bye bye Hylian Z! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...d/S6300599.jpg

And so it was back to another 14 hours of driving with a horn-tooting passenger. Somehow we made it back with out sanity intact.

The following day, we visited the Historic House in Charleville, full of old timey stuff that Liah really wanted to see. Though she just wants to touch everything to see what it does http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...d/S6300607.jpg

And then we had a picnic in the park in the afternoon where she insisted on climbing everything, though forgot about the part where you had to get back down again. Here she's clearly thinking 'I wonder if I can climb that' http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...d/S6300619.jpg

Then that night we went to dinner at the RSL again, this time with a bunch of my workmates and Liah learnt an interesting lesson about Australia. There was a blackout shortly after we arrived. A gasp filled the air. Then silence. Then everyone lifted their glasses and kept drinking.

After dinner, we headed out to the Cosmos Centre where you get to do some stargazing. The sky is so clear out here, it's an amazing sight to behold even without the aid of a telescope. I've always wanted to go there but had never gotten around to it. It was an amazing experience.

The next day was another lazy day, preparing for the long drive to the Gold Coast the following day.

We stopped in Toowoomba on the way to visit a friend of mine but we were soon in the vicinity of two most gorgeously awesome ladies of ZU, Pani and Holic. And the next day, we met them at Dreamworld.

I think I'll let them tell you all about that day in their posts, and they'll have a bunch of pictures for you too.

That night, Liah and I watched Get Smart at the movie theatre and I think we chortled more heartily than the rest of the cinema. My favourite part was when the guy got shot in the leg and then hopped in front of a bus. Hehe, morbidly hilarious.

But alas, all good things must come to an end as they say and the following day it was time for Liah to leave Australia. A nice and relaxing day was had (and I bought Brawl, hooray!) but it was hard to shake the sorrow of the occasion. The airport beckoned and her flight approached quicker than I wished it would.

Bye Bye Liah http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...d/S6300626.jpg

It was an awesome fun time and seriously, two of the best weeks of my life. I got to meet heaps of awesome people, Liah, Hylian Z, Knightlark, Pani, Holic, EA, truly good times.

Now I hand you over to everyone else for their take on events.

Re: The Oceania Meet Up - 'Cause Calling A Kiwi An Aussie Is Insulting...Apparently.

God, these two are a pain. Here I was at home, quietly reading up on....the bible? Eww. When these two jerks disturb the peace. I see the two shadowy creatures emerge from the darkness of my driveway and my Dog was pretty pleased to see them. Though, Liah wasn't too pleased to see it. Screaming and carrying on like a woman at the small little dog yapping away at her. It was quite amusing to watch.

We went inside and settled for the night, Like Kyle mentioned above, we played Melee, Kyle using Luigi and being a boring jump freak and Liah using Link. I lost my first game but kicked arse with Falco in the second. Pew pew pew pew! Watched a bit of Vampire Hunter D, Kyle fell asleep like a little baby and Liah, being the evil witch she is manipulated me to hit Kyle with a pillow against my own will. Sorry Kyle, she forced me into it D:

Next Day! Browsing Bathurst! The Mount and all that crap. Kyle bought a **** load of DVDs and while at the DVD shop, why not stop for a while and make some jokes on the Titles of some Movies. Deep Impact being one of them...we wasted like 10 minutes or so doing that.

At the movies, played Streetfighter...I got my arse kicked by Chun Li, then a guy wearing pink...I will never live it down... Watched Hulk, better then the other one. By far. Then back home and sleep for the Next Day's travel.

Up early in the morning, and on the Road, I pointed out the many Kangaroo signs with Balls drawn on the Kangaroo and waved to basically everyone we drove past on the way down to Sydney...Jerks, not even a single one of them ****ing waved back. Though I freaked out one girl/made her blush and made some wanna be gangsta walking down the 'hood' of Katoomba turn his head in confusion. Kyle momentarily pointed out a fence on the M4 shouting "Look, Things!", which...seemed funny at the Time.

We finally Arrived at Knightlark/Caryn's and Chris' apartment on time and with ease due to my expert navigational skillz, short intro and headed off to Supernova.

Supernova was pretty awesome, first time I'd been in such an area filled with such a high density of Nerds and Weirdo's (Though given I just spent 3 hours in car with two of them). Had a look around, pretty cool. Liah obviously bagging out everyone on DDR. Listened to Sean Schemmel bag out women and cosplayers. Raged at a little nerd **** DBZ fan for being fail. Then met up with EA

EA is a pretty awesome guy. Kyle and I left EA and Liah while us men did manly things like laugh at Anime names and random other odities. He bought a thing called Arse and **** and I bought Weatherwoman. Yeah :awesome:
EA kicked my arse at DS and then we parted ways.

Got back to Caryn's appartment and watched Transporter. I ruined the ending for all in the room

And Liah is scared of Possums.

Next day did the touristy things. I didn't press any buttons. Liah broke the Opera House. Went to Paddy's Market, Actually heard an asian lady say "2 Dolla". Then went to soccer game. Short Drive, Verrrrrrrry long wait. China are pussies. Fell over like every 5 minutes and BAWWW'd. After match went back and rested for the night.

Travelled back the next day, Kyle and Liah being the burden they are asked to stay another day, I reluctantly said yes. Found out that if Liah has to wait more then 5 minutes for a meal she gets all PMSy. FOR GODS SAKE IT WAS LIKE 15 MINUTES! STANDARD WAIT FOR A PUB MEAL. Kyle then proceeded to kick my arse a number of times in Melee.

The next morning they left, I was half asleep at the time. When I walked back inside...I realised the mess they left behind. Jerks.

But truth be told, I had a wonderful time and Kyle, Liah and EA are totally awesome people which I definately want to see more of in the future. :D

Re: The Oceania Meet Up - 'Cause Calling A Kiwi An Aussie Is Insulting...Apparently.

(I am terrible at re-telling events, so hopefully Bex will post later and do a better job. I have a bunch of pictures though!)

On the first day of our holidays, me and Bex caught the train down to Dreamworld to meet up with LIAH AND MR SPORK.

One of the first things we discovered was that Liah and Spork are more brave than us. 'Cause as soon as we walked through the gates, they went on the Claw. Me and Bex just stood at the bottom and waved and took photos.

Then Liah wanted to go on another crazy ride, and while she was lining up for that, Bex got eaten by a shark. Hehehe.

And then Liah got on the Wipeout, so we pulled Bex out of the shark and went and waved at her. You can see her around the middle in her pink top. The ride went all upside-down, too. It was craaaazy.

After that, we found out that Dreamworld had an arcade. So we went in there and Bex kicked ass at DDR. Then Liah found this horse-riding game, and Bex played it with her. It was... odd.

Then we had lunch, and Liah swore in front of a bunch of little kids without knowing.

One ride had a divers' bell out the front, so Bex sat in it. Then a Liah-fish came up and tapped on the window.

Then we had to go through the Nickelodeon part of Dreamworld, and first we all went on the DODGEM CARS, me and Bex in one car and Spork and Liah in another. NEVER GO DRIVING WITH BEX, SHE CAN'T EVEN DRIVE A BUMPER CAR. We were trying to go around a corner, and we ended up going left-right-left-right-left-right-left-right. I screamed a lot, and then she ran into the side. But then we got free and bumped into Liah and Spork.

While we were in that place, we found the new Spongebob ride, and Bex and Liah went on. Liah had fun, but Bex said she was terrified she was going to fly out.

After that, we went to go see the tigers. And Bex wanted to clean herself, too.

After that, we headed over to see the animals! But on the way, we stopped at the teacup ride for Liah and Bex.

Here's Liah feeding one of the kangaroos (alive, unlike the hundreds she saw on the way down ). Then we met a koala that hit on Liah, and ate Bex's finger.

Oh, and here's a Liah and a Spork near the animals.

After we were done looking at all the animals, Liah, Spork and Bex wanted to go on this... thing. The Giant Drop. I just sat at the bottom and watched all their bags. After they did that, it was down to some other ride that I didn't go on and they did (). After that, Liah and Spork suffered temporary insanity and decided to go on the Tower of Terror. I couldn't get any photos from where I was sitting with Bex (and signing postcards!), but it was reaaaally loud. Bex morphed into Spork while they were on it.

It was getting late after that, so we decided to head over onto our last ride of the day, the log flume. It was fun, but sort of a bad idea to go last, since we got absolutely SOAKED. Water splashed up over the front and the sides and the back and all over us. It was cooooold. And afterwards, we went to a candy store to cheer ourselves up.

Here's Liah, Spork and Bex soaking wet from the log flume.

After that, we headed over to have something else to eat before we said our goodbyes, and then me and Bex left Liah and Spork to catch the train home.

And just a few more photos!

Here's a Liah and a Bex, a Spork and a Pani, a Spork and a Bex and a Liah and a Pani!

It was SUCH a fun day with Liah and Spork, and I can't wait to see them again someday.

Re: The Oceania Meet Up - 'Cause Calling A Kiwi An Aussie Is Insulting...Apparently.

Screw you, Kyle, it IS insulting *slaps*.

Anyway! Like my homeboy said, my time in Australia was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. I was up at 4am, at the airport at 5am, leaving for Aussie around 6:45am and in Australia almost four hours later. I flew to Brisbane and then had to wait another three hours to catch another plane to Charleville, town where a Spork lives. I stepped off the plane onto, um, some concrete next to a small house thing. There was a patch of grass near by as well. I was wondering where the hell the airport was. I realised I was standing in it. And then I saw a fellow across the grass. I slowly walked over to him and he opened a sign that spoke my language - SUP HOMIE!? I squeeeaaaaled and huggled my long-time friend, Kyle aka Mr Spork <3.

Anyway, we went back to his place and, well, he had no food D: WTF. They gave me half a sandwich and a quarter of a glass of water on the plane as a meal. I was starving. That was prison food and I was on a vacation, not prison, thank you very much! Kyle took me out to dinner and he is totally overexaggerating my impatience. Kinda. Sorta. Okay, it's not a lie, but I don't care, DON'T GET IN THE WAY OF MY FOOD.

Lazy days of walking about town and hanging out was awesome <3.

And then we went to Alex's/Hylian Z's place. 14 hour drive. I saw plenty dead kangaroo D: and Kyle thought it was hilarious. The cold bastard. You know what else was funny? We pulled over for food, ate, and when we got back into the car, I said:

"Where are we going next?"
"Well... *looks at the back of his hand*"
"... Kyle"
"Yes?"
"We're travelling over 1000 kms and gonna be in this car for more than half a day... and you wrote the directions on the back of your hand...?"
"Yes"
"..."

... SEE WHAT I HAD TO DEAL WITH???

Bathurst: Meeting Hylian Z

Now, Alex isn't as bastard-like as he is online, truthfully XD <3 He's actually very sweet when he wants to be, quick wittedly perverted, my God, that man can crack a dirty joke so fast, and he's absolutely adorable close up. I was supposed to punch him for all the mean things he's said to me over the years, but seeing his cutesy face... I couldn't XDDD. Mwah, Alex, I love you! You sit as one of the bestest friends a girl could ask for, you lovely man. I cried when I had to leave ;-; and shut up, DON'T LAUGH, ***hole XDDD. Seriously, guys, Alex is such a caring, lovable and kind person. He told me he's gonna grow up to become a priest <3. Good luck to you, my son, good luck.

Yes, I made Kyle's nose bleed. Kyle, your name is now STEFAN, YOU JERK, HARDEN THE **** UP.

Btw, Kyle, you forgot to say I beat you with Peach, that hopeless character. That was amusing, and don't you dare call Alex cheap when all you do with Luigi is dodge, uppercut! JERK.

Going to Sydney: Meeting Knightlark and EA:

Knightlark is awesome. She's funny, very, very funny and extremely witty. She and her boyfriend together are the cutest thing ever! It made me miss my Brandon some to see them tease each other so ;-;

Now, EA... He's sweet, fun to talk to, humble, and wonderful company, and he makes the most ADORABLE faces when I'm yelling DO SINGSTAR WITH ME, GODAMNIT. Hanging out with him was an absolute pleasure. He was a little shy first, but that quickly faded away as I kept blabbering on, as I do XD. EA - it was an honour to meet you, you darling man, and I sincerely hope that our paths do cross again in the future (:

Supanova was awesome. Kyle was all "THE COKE ZERO GIRLS ARE HOT" and I was like "let's tell them what you think" and he was all blushy and shy and insistent on not telling them. It was quite amusing to watch.

The soccer game was amusing as hell. I am neither Chinese or Australian. I take no sides. I laughed at all. It was brilliant.

Leaving Sydney and Bathurst:
After leaving mah Alex ;-;, it was another 14 hour drive with Kyle. You know what pisses him off? Tooting his horn while he drives. See, hardly anything gets him riled up. Even a nose bleed. But, God, toot the horn and the man goes Kill Bill on you. And you know what else? If you touch his earlobe, he giggles like a schoolboy! XDDD

Charleville again:
Ya, we went to a historic house and on a picnic and went star gazing! I saw 20 shooting stars in one night! It was so beautiful. A breathtaking experience that I'll never forget. Seeing it with Kyle, who I know loves sci fi and space-ish stuffs, made it all the more special.

Going to Brisbane and meeting Pani and Bex:

Another long drive with Spork! Horn tooting galore, nerdy songs blasting, Simpsons' quotes one after the other and tons of great conversation with Kyle <3. We got to Brisbane and settled in at our cabin. Next day - Dreamworld!

Now, Pani and Bex are both aboslutely gorgeous and tons of fun:

Pani: Now, this young lady is extremely funny to talk to XD. Other than making perverted jokes about a certain bird (ahahaha XDDD) and tigers licking themselves (AHAHAHAHAHA XDDDDD), she was an absolute delight to spend the day with. She's so adorable! But definitely has that Pani attitude about her when she wants it XD <3. I laughed a lot with her and one of my fondest memories of her was playing with the strap-on tiger tail... LOOOL XDDDD. Pani, you are pure awesomeness and I would LOVE to hang out with you again! More rides next time, though! <333

Bex: My goodness, this lady is FEISTY and tons of fun to be around. Witty, super intelligent, great conversationalist! Meeting another woman with a whip-crack attitude was AWESOME and just what I needed after spending so much time with GUYS XD. She doesn't really differ much at all from her online persona either, to be honest, which is a very good thing <3. Bex, like Pani, I would LOOOVE to meet up with you again and experience the POWER OF YOUR THIGHS (you can explain that to ZU XD) <3333

Dreamworld overall was pure, pure awesomeness. Btw, guys, WHO'S IDEA WAS IT TO RIDE THE LOG AT THE END OF THE DAY? I'M STILL TRYING TO FIGURE THAT OUT XDDD. I went on all the rides! Even though I was terrified XD.

Btw - the reason we have phone quality pictures for Supernova is because KYLE FORGET THE CAMERA, and the reason only Pani has photos at Dreamworld is because THE BATTERIES WERE FLAT IN KYLE'S CAMERA THOUGH HE REMEMBERED TO BRING IT THIS TIME LOL.

That night, like Kyle said, we saw Get Smart and loved it.

The next day, sadly, was mah last day in Australia. Sadness. Hung out with Kyle, talked lots, but it ended too fast for my liking. I cried when I left ;-; and I still miss my homies terribly.

So... my vacation in Australia with the other ZUers? It was... amazing. Absolutely amazing. I'm so glad Kyle and I worked our schedules together to get time off and I'm so glad that others were willing to participate.

And, here, finally, is a gift to ZU from Kyle, Alex and Liah. I started it on my first night at Alex's, and finished it on the last day there:

Much love, guys.

Edit: PS I also beat Kyle in an arm-wrestling match and Alex was too scared to take me on, mwah ;D
