Celestia: The free space simulation that lets you explore our universe.

Quote:
Welcome to Celestia
... The free space simulation that lets you explore our universe in three dimensions. Celestia runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.

Unlike most planetarium software, Celestia doesn't confine you to the surface of the Earth. You can travel throughout the solar system, to any of over 100,000 stars, or even beyond the galaxy.

All movement in Celestia is seamless; the exponential zoom feature lets you explore space across a huge range of scales, from galaxy clusters down to spacecraft only a few meters across. A 'point-and-goto' interface makes it simple to navigate through the universe to the object you want to visit.

Celestia is expandable. Celestia comes with a large catalog of stars, galaxies, planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and spacecraft. If that's not enough, you can download dozens of easy to install add-ons with more objects.
I love this program. It is amazing in every way possible. It's like the google earth OF THE UNIVERSE!

Celestia: Home

What's so cool about celestia? You not only can view our own solar system, but OTHER SOLAR SYSTEMS WITH PLANETS!

That's right, other planets that circle other stars.

Not only 2-5 mind you, I'm talking the possibilities are ENDLESS!

ANY, AAAANY STAR YOU SEE, YOU CAN CLICK AND SEE IN 3D!

Lets see some screenshots hmmm?

As you can see, this is a new planet I found circling a red star. Possibly a red dwarf.

This is another one circling a bigger and brighter star.

A different one with a HUGE ASS star.

And our very own Saturn! (Notice how small the sun looks... )

As you notice, there are clearly coordinates visible in universal dimentions, and you can activate advanced coordinates if you are that hardcore.

What do you think of this program? If you already have it, why not show off something interesting you found, or some screenshots? Should be fun to explore our universe and show off our findings :3

FREE COOKIES GOES TO ANYONE WHO CAN FIND A PLANET THAT WE CAN NAME PLANET HAZZ!

(To find a new planet, check wikipedia or something... they'll give you coordinates you enter in and BOOM! Have fun!)

This is quite interesting...

This software looks incredible. This is how that new Google space should've turned out.

Is it free?

Re: Celestia: The free space simulation that lets you explore our universe.

Alright, I'll play, and kill our dial-up friends.

This is a picture of Mira, one of my favorite star systems. (Addon)

This is Our Jupiter, beautifully rendered in Celestia. In the foreground is Europa, well-known for the possibility of liquid water (and some say life) to exist beneath it's surface.

This is the Sun... Rendered with R. Thorvaldsen's wonderful addon. (Addon)

This shows a very small part of the creative possibilties of Celestia. This is Pei, a planet in a system I created, called Vita Cancri (a pun on Beta, Life, and Cancer all at the same time). All that I used to create this image was a few tries in paint, notepad and and celestia. Viola. (You cannot get this unless you request it from me).

EDIT: The mess you see in the obove images is due to compression.

Awesome! Thanks for that!

We need some more people to see this program, we could make some really cool things in it!

Milliways, it's the Restaurant at the end of the Universe! From the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Yes, the one and only Milliways, as Jadis has helpfully explicated.

Although perhaps I should simply start with Frogstar World B first?

Re: Celestia: The free space simulation that lets you explore our universe.

Yeah, but d'you really fancy going to a barren green planet where you face death from a disembodied voice leading you to a place where you see the whole universe?

Personally, I'd be more interested in going to visit Betelgeuse, or using it to track the progress of the Heart of Gold.
