Re: Celestia: The free space simulation that lets you explore our universe.

The only thing that irks me is.....

Whenever I zoom into a planet, the texture is sloppy. If you look at Deku Prince's Jupiter picture, the textures look real. Mine look like a Super Nintendo game.

WTH is wrong!

Your textures are set wrong...

Go to the display options and check stuff out... It's in the renders menu...

Re: Celestia: The free space simulation that lets you explore our universe.

Yeah because they can get amazing pictures of planets billions and billions miles away.

This is a neat program, kinda slow on my crappy computer. But definitly fun to mess around with.

Just thought I'd quickly show this off:

International Space Station (ISS) orbiting earth...

Re: Celestia: The free space simulation that lets you explore our universe.

Finally, I'm home.

The trip around the galaxy was harsh, and I've recieved many scars and scrapes to bring these pictures to you.

Enjoy^_^

As I left my home, I took a minute to look back and take this photograph. As the Earth grew farther away, until it was just a single point in the sky, I wondered if I would ever come back home.

Ah, my first glimpse of an extraterrestrial planet. Many suggest life may have existed here, and some say it still exists. I think it's quite possible, but the evidence is lacking, so I'm sort of on the fence about it.

Callisto is one of the many moons of Jupiter. While a nice sight, it's just a dried up rock, really.

Europa is perhaps my favorite moon orbiting Jupiter. On the surface, all you see is a thick coating of ice, but under it's shell lies vast amounts of water. Scientists think that life might be under that icy crust. NASA is already planning on a future mission to Europa, but it probably won't be happening for a long time.

The Eskimo Nebula. Not much to say about it other than how spectacular it looks.

My favorite object in space, the Boomerang Nebula. I just love how awesome it looks. It's the epitome of beauty. This Nebula is also the coldest object in the known Universe.

For things like that, I must admit I'm partial to Orbiter, another freeware space game. But Orbiter's more of a flight sim than simply a "cruise around the galaxy looking at stuff." It has pretty pictures (and you can download ultra-high-res texture versions of various things like Earth, Mars, and some rather decent resolution stuff for other planets and satellites in the star system.

Sadly, nothing outside Sol. But still. You can fly up to the ISS and dock with it and stuff. As close to real physics as possible, to, so it's sorta a ***** to get into orbit with something like the Space Shuttle. (Conveniently, there's things in the game that are easier to fly.)

I'd provide a screenshot, but I don't have any decent image editing program currently installed, and for me to give you a .bmp (or even a .jpg) of my screen resolution would MURDER 90% of connections out there.

edit:

Actually, here you go. Raided from the internets. On my game, I have vastly better atmospheric effects, so it has a lovely diffused light all along the horizon. But, alas.

It looks like a giant exploding peanut--and is thus not entirely dissimilar to Diddy Kong's Final Smash.

Which only makes it look even more awesome in my eyes.

Haha, never thought of it that way.

I'm glad you enjoy the picture. ^_^

Re: Celestia: The free space simulation that lets you explore our universe.

Woah! Nice pictures people! I need to get pictures soon....

Also, if you guys didn't notice, there is a video recorder built into the program itself, so you can make some cool videos and upload them into youtube or something and show them off!

I'll get some up soon! :3

Re: Celestia: The free space simulation that lets you explore our universe.

Someone already posted a picture of the Mira system, but I want to show off my picture of it:

This is my favorite pic (besides the Boomerang Nebula).
