the term "lol"

How many of you really laugh out loud when you say “lol”? I sure don’t! I think it has lost its meaning and is generally used by the public for a reason I do not know. When I was first on the internet, I would really say “lol” and laugh, but now, I don’t laugh, unless I reply “hahaha”.

Talking to people on via webcams sometimes they say “lol” by typing because they have no microphone, but their face looks as if they have been in a boring class all day! When the word was first made people though it was cool and really said it?

what about you people, how do you feel about this word? do you really lol, or do you just say it "cos you can"?

I only use it when I'm talking to my brothers... like, if someone does something stupid we'd say "but lol" or something. Also, I'd sometimes say "lol @" something.

I never used it when laughing. And ya, you're rihgt, it has lost its meaning kind of. especially when people write "olololollololololol!"

Wasn't lol supposed to replace "hahahahaha!" ? so why type it out like that? stupid!

I've weaned myself off the usage of that term. And I'm proud to say that I've been LOL-free for several months now! It's getting past that first week that's the initial hurdle. After that, you can be free from it forever.

So yeah, I mainly use "haha" or some variant to express laughter--unless of course I'm making fun of internet-speak or going for some sort of effect, in which case I use "LOL" or "lulz" deliberately.

Lol is terrible.

it is not only simpler to use ha hee or heh, that lol doesn't take the cake anymore.


lol is typed when you're slightly amused, or are doing a mental tl;dr

and are just saying something to make it look like you care.

I used to use lol like crazy, don't know why I stopped. I just did. I like using *tee hee* now, even though it's almost three times as long. I dunno why.

I used to use lol alot when I used to play an MMORPG. Almost everything I said had lol at the end of it. It wasnt until someone actually asked me why, did I even realise it.

I use it sometimes, but I rarely actually laugh while using it. If I find something funny I normally use ROFL or LMAO. Not that I actualy roll on the floor or anything.

I say it when I'm talking to someone over msn or whatever that I'm too nice to tell to go away and they say something thats supposed to be funny. If I actually laugh I say 'haha'.

Lol (), I don't usually really laugh when I say lol. Thats pretty funny though.

I hate lol and I'm ashamed to say that I've used it in the past. It's just a stupid term for the people who are to lazy to say something else to imply the same thing.

I'v always wondered why people use it. When they start, they get addicted and never stop. Especially in IM, they add "lol" to the end of anything they say that they thick is stupid or moderately funny. And plus, you only have the "right" to type like that on a phone. When you have a full keyboard, USE IT.

But I don't mind Lmao though. I guess because of the swear guard most sites have. So you can't write it out. I guess it just works well for signifying extreme funny, without saying so.

I prefer real words, like "haha" or "heh." Or even emotes like =P or XD.

I really don't laugh wen I say lol... Even though I use to. Now I barely use it. It has become too over use over the time, that it has lost its meaning. I even ask someone in school why they use the phrase when they don't even laugh. And she just said, "Really! Are we supposed to laugh when we say that?!" I ask her do you even know what that means? She said no! and that she though it meant some thing like dude, cool, or some thing like that! Some people don't even know what the phrase means!
