Generousity You've Experienced

Just yesterday an old Italian family (had to plug the Italians, haha) was moving away and they gave me.....

1) A GIANT T.V.
2) An elegant TV stand with dvd holders, etc etc &tc
3) a set of nice solid wood white oak tv-dinner tables
4) a computer desk
5) two computer monitors (one is 19", which is really nice for me right now)
6) a souped-up computer (AMAZING video card!)
7) lots of dvd roms
8) ZIP drive with 10 disks (I love zip drives!)
9) amazing speakers
.... I was thanking them up and down! It was great!! I gave them fifty bucks as a thank-you, but guys.... I just got like...$3000 worth of perfectly good, functioning stuff! I'll likely sell some of the dvd drives on eBay :0P

EDIT: oh yeah, and 10) a color printer :0)

Float your generosity-received (or given, if you prefer)

Dave got lucky! That was really decent of them.

One thing stands out in my mind as generosity I've received. Up until recently, an older chap used to work with me. I usually walk to work, as it's only about a mile each way, but he would always make the effort to pull over somewhere and offer me a lift on his way past. This really helped out on those mornings where I just didn't get out of bed on time, and saved me from being late. He'd also wait around for a little while after work if I was really busy and running late to get out, and offer me a lift. He's just retired a few weeks back, but he was really kind. Much appreciated.

That's the kind of person you can look back on years down the road and still be thankful for :0)

Nice one, DK!

Aren't ZIP drives dead and buried? I did like the look of ZIP discs...

ZIP drives are much better than CDs for long-term storage. I'll use them basically as backups of my REALLY important things. I've lost far too many good files from my college years (and a lot of ZU stuff, too, that I had saved, including old chat convos!!) to corrupted CDs and scratched ones, as well. DOn't ask me how a CD can be corrupted, btw...but apparently after a while some become..unreadable o-o

My cynicism level would be through the roof is that was me. Having not been on the receiving end of that level of generosity I'd be wondering if it was either stolen or faulty.

Anyway, enough bitterness. The last bit of generosity I got given to me was assistance pushing my mates wifes broken down car into a layby off the road. Not too shabby considering the traffic was heavy.

Bah. You're a git, Dave.

haha, sorry mate :0P

But actually they are moving down to Louisianna in retirement this week, and needed to get rid of the bulky stuff. So in all honesty I was the one helping them out. We Italians like to maintain symbiotic relationships with one another ;0)

On the actual topic, I've had some pretty generous people come up to me. Once, I was in a panic because I'd left my ticket to the football match at home (we were outside the stadium) and this couple walked up to us and asked us if we wanted this spare ticket they had because one of their children was home sick.

Oh, and when Sir Chuc was in Singapore, he gave me $10 for my train card because I was out of money. I still owe him it. O:

The Queensland Government gave me $6000 to go to Japan on exchange for two months. That was pretty rad.

My birthday was recently and I received a few gifts and birthday cards (which are always nicer than gifts, seeing as they're more thoughtful) form ZUers! Zeldax3, Hylie and Sheikahchica were kind enough to mail me cards and it really makes your day. Especially since the mail is always late and they come a day or two after your birthday so it's still a reminder someone was thinking of you.
My parents bought me breakfast at the diner this morning.
My car is in the shop with $900 under the belt, that's no fun, but whatever, that's irrelevant haha.

My brother showed me some respect. It's really a wonder how nice that is, and it's more generosity than you think.

I say good karma was returning to you BBD^_^. The only generous thing somebody else did for me (that I can think of at the top of my head) was this: I was at Disney World and I was talking about Sea World, when this couple overheard and gave my sisters and I three free tickets. He told my parents that three of his family members couldn't make it down to Florida this year, and he didn't want the tickets to go to waste.

Pay it forward,
-BGS

I'm ashamed to say that I would be the exact same.

I couldn't accept any of those things without knowing WHY they were leaving, and WHY they were giving it to me.

Evidence? Finger prints? Need to get out of town quickly and can't risk a plasma slowing them back? Where's the body? Who are these people? That Italian accent sounds fake. OMG is that the outline of a gun that I can see on the side of her skirt? - well, you get my general thinking.

It must be nice to not be riddled with neurosis. Enjoy your gifts!

The only one I can think of is when the guy I'm renting my house from cut my monthly rent payments in half because he went to the restaurant I work at and I was the waiter. Apparently, I was "the best waiter he'd ever encountered." Coincidentally, when I began looking for a house to rent, the one I settled on belonged to him. So, he handed me the keys, cut my monthly rent payments in half, and called it a day. I'm extremely thankful because, had he not done this, I would be homeless right now.

Wow GP, that's quite a bit of generosity ;;

I was just generous, today. I bought an expensive vacuum cleaner slash air filter slash everything-elser, today, off of an old high school friend. He gets commission off of it, and I need a clean house ;0) Sure I'll be making payments on it for some time, but I did a good thing, and as they say, "cleanliness is next to Godliness." Now all I have to do is get off of my keister and go clean! :0P

Well, I can't remember half of my day nine times out of ten, but I remember a small act of generosity that happened yesterday. I was in Buffalo Coffee (a cute little café here) yesterday night with a few friends, and my boyfriend was going to buy me one of their yummy baked goodies (specifically a lemon tart). I didn't have my money on me, so he offered to buy. It was only around $2, and all he had was his debit card; since it apparently costs more to run the machine, she gave me the tart for free. :3

It wasn't anything big, but it made me happy! It was soooo good, too! <3

So, I went into Gamestation this one time like a week before Christmas, to pick up a copy of Freelancer for the PC. Since I'd heard about that Zelda: Collector's Edition going around, I decided to ask in-store about it when I took Freelancer to the counter.

"'scuze me, how much is that Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition disc going for?"
"Nothing, you can only get it if you buy a Gamecube."
"Oh, okay."
"Why, you a big fan?"
"Well, yeah."

He goes into the back for a second. Comes back with another case in his hands, gives me Freelancer and my receipt, and hands me the other case. A copy of Zelda: Collector's Edition

"Merry Christmas mate."

Didn't even wait for a thanks, just zipped to the other end of the counter to deal with another customer.

Daaaaaaaaaaaamn man! That is like, pure awesomeness

Before we moved to Ohio, we lived in Idaho. It was the winter of 1997, and my mom had just bought a new house for $97,000. My mom had paid about $15,000 of it off when her boss tells her that he would pay off the rest.

That counts as a pretty generous gift, right?

After we moved to Ohio, for about 6 months he kept calling her asking to come back. He was offering a raise, car, etc etc.

No, they were not like that silly she's one of the all around hardcore Christians, so theres no way in hell she woulda been like that with A MARIED MAN

She's a very hard worker. The last job(s) she applied for/got she actually had people fighting over who would get her (she's a paralegal, so all her bosses are lawyers).
