My sig = My identity?

ok, I've been a member here for almost 4 years. many people know of me, and I have NEVER changed my sig and avatar.
Lately I've been thinking of getting a new set, but I'd like to know-
Would anybody's heads explode if I did this?!

I'm thinking of getting a Steely Dan set...

And to make this a discussion-
What do you think about peoples' sigs and who they are to you?
Do you prefer when people change their sets periodically, all the time, or never?
Does it confuse you when they swithch?
Do you even pay attention?

First off, it's entirely up to you. If you want to change it, I don't think anyone is actually going to knock on your door holding a pitchfork or anything.

Having said that, though, I do associate the avatar with you. I see the avvy, I instantly know Margar has posted. If you change it, it'll take me a while to get used to the new avvy, and I'll probably end up scrolling straight past your posts without noticing for a week or two.

It really depends on the member. Those who change fairly often, or who I've seen with a dozen or so different sets over the years, it doesn't bother me in the slightest; but there are some members around here where the avvy is a key part of how I recognise them. Take, for instance, a short time ago when Asci was impersonating Asia - stole her avvy, changed his sig to match hers, etc. The first couple of times he posted after that, I thought it was Asia posting, purely coz of the avvy/sig. The Din banner didn't even register. He completely floored me.

So, yeah. Normally, I don't really notice; but when a member has had a set for a long time, it's a bit like finding out my friend got a completely new face overnight.

I haven´t been here for so long but I think it´s najz, you should keep it.

I myself have changed sig and avatar a few time, but I cant seem to find anything good. So i´m sticking to the blue eyed beast for a while.

But sure, peoples sigs might just reflect on them selfs. Or they just want something that looks good, like I do!

I say CHANGE THE SET. To be honest I don't really like it. Also, change is good.

To be honest, when I first saw it I was all "OMG ASIA SWITCHED TO DIN!" I had already laced my pepsi with cyanide, then I noticed it was really Asci, so I threw it away.

So THANKS A LOT, ASCI. You made me waste a whole glass of pepsi, not to mention some perfectly good cyanide. Jerk.



Anyway, like the pink fwuffy dwagon I quoted, I have a habit of recognising some people by their avvy's. I'm fairly quick to adjust to avvy changes, though, unless the person has had the avvy for a really long time.

I don't usually recognise people by their siggies, so if someone changes his/her siggy, it doesn't usually make much difference.



As for the sig in question, I vote for changing it. There's too many pink hearts in the current sig.

I'd say change the sig, not the avvy, just because- well, as Sturs said, it's far too pink to be allowed!

But the avvy is- I dunno, neat. :D

Anyway, as for recognizing people by sigs and avvies- yeah, I tend to. It makes like so much easier when people keep the same avvy, although it doesn't take me particularly long to adjust in the case that there is a change.

From my experience... I get violent backlash whenever I get rid of Slowpoke, or even if I discuss getting rid of Slowpoke, or even if I consider discussing considering to discuss getting rid of Slowpoke.

And Margie - the Av is the most .. visual thing I associate with members usuall;
it wouldnt really make much of a difference to me if anyone changed their sig - even if they'd never changed it before, so long as they stick with the av xD
although, of course, some people change their whole sets as much as they do their socks, so ..!

I once tried changing my av in celebration of the baby-pics-avatar-month thing, and I got a few PMs screaming at me but FIVE MINUTES after I'd changed it, ordering me to go back to my usual one :<

Most people can recognize me with that "Bassoonist for Life" signature I have, I'd suppose. (even though I'm not using it here.) I have actually had people ask me if they could use it, though... so I'm not the only one who uses it. :O

Remember I mentioned members that I identify primarily by sig/avvy? You're one of them. Case in point being the Asci thing.

I know a lot of people associate my avy with me... but I kind of want to have my avy and sig be a set...
my current avy isn't really "matchy-matchy" to my sig, but it IS a zora, and zelda related...

What do y'all think about maybe keeping the avy and changing the sig?

well, at any rate, I still need to put some thought about WHAT, exactly, I want the sig and/or avy to look like, so It'll be a while before you see any changes.

I associate people's avys with them more so than the sig, but the clan banners and other banners help identify someone, too.

Tiroth- NO clue why you can't see my sig! I've had it for years. do you have sig images turned off?

I'll admit, I'm not even really that fond of pink, myself, but I thought it really fit with the sig concept, so I kept it.

Margar: Change them both. Screw all those people who "associate your avy with you" that's stupid. They can learn to associate you by your new avatar; or even better, by your username. If you want a matching set, and it sure sounds like you do, then by all means go for it.

Yes, people seem to associate others by their avatars/sigs, so I recomend that if you truly wish to change them, start with one, then change the other after a reasonable period of time.

I suggest to start with your avatar rather than your sig. Why? Because your sig is a many-splendoured thing!

When I see "Margar", I know it means a beautiful personality with a voice to match. Of course, then I realize that it is "Rag-Ram" backwards, and begin to wonder about that. Then I attempt to solve a complex algorithm which relates the integrand of your inverted name to the derivative of your normalized name. It is really quite complex.

Margar, for some reason you'r signature automatically brings up the name Maldrea for me. I honestly have no idea why.

For just about everyone else, yes, I go by their signatures. Some of them, like Tirry, I'd probably scream if it were changed. Other people who I don't see around often, I honestly don't care because the image doesn't register.

Actually, I had a problem back when the color of my sig first turned from a light blue to most black and dark colors. I honestly didn't recognize my own posts, and it drove me crazy because if I went to look for a post of mine to know what I last read in a thread, I'd scroll right past it. I think that's the biggest problem I've ever had with sig changes.
