Er, I think, perhaps, you don't mean robots the way everyone else does.
The term "Robot" comes from a Czechoslovakian word for...slave, I think it was. Anyways, it currently means any electrical and mechanical device that performs a task. (There's probably a better definition, but that's not a bad one.) So, factories have used robots for decades, remote-controlled ones are used for all sorts of things, etc. I suspect what you (the OP) means by "robot" is something like Isaac Asimov's ones, self-aware, intelligent, and sapient. Those currently do not exist.

Don't listen to GDwarf, he's Tom Cruise's publicist.
Robots are very much a reality, but you wont find them in Japanese toy shops. They are in our teen dramas, our pop concerts, and Oprah specials. |

Well, I agree with GDwarf, Robots can mean many things; there are robots at for example many factories, building for example cars, there are even some robots that looks like humans, and "robot-toys".
But if you mean robots like the ones in that computer animated movie from Disney, I've never seen one.

well have we ever seen the inside of a robot? like i said it could be people in suits because from what i have seen so far they are just little remote controlled cars and man shaped robots (obviously to put people in there!)

Here are some.
Self-Assembling robot: Self-Assembling Modular Robot Robot used in the military, able to sense it's environment and conquer it: Big Dog the Military Robot (Reminds you of MGS4 doesn't it?) I found a video on youtube that has a robot that has the ability to learn words, actions, can learn what to say and what not to say, and have a conversation. But sadly, youtube is dead right now :/ -Link

yeah, asimo is the most technilogily advanced robot. It can walk up and down stairs, dance, and do lots of other human-like movements. Although, It is only a robot, It cannot yet think on it's own and make decisions based on gathered information like a human can. However, Something tells me having artificial humans would be a bad thing. Most people would probably think down on them, like people are better than robots (similar to the whole racial segregation during the 50's).

it just depends on how sophisticated of a robot we're talking about though. like- androids- no. AI hasn't gotten that advanced yet. but we're making strides. |

Yes.
PROOF! We are currently enslaving robots in our homes! I believe that they contain latent AI put in by iRobot company that will one day be made active- and lo, on that day, they will pillage our homes and devour our firstborn. Seriously, though. Of course there are robots. AI robots, though? Naw. Not yet. Also, the fact that UB2R-B0T has yet to post in this thread is appalling. Seriously, wtf? Get in here and say something amusing, now.

Robot: Fully electrical/mechanical. Android: Synthetic human. Fake skin, fake blood, fake bones, but not (usually) made of metal. Cyborg: Either part human/part robot, or part robot/part android, or part android/part human. I really wish I knew where I learnt stuff like this.
