Anybody here used to watch Captain Planet when they were kiddies? Then this is the thread for you!

What do you do to help out the environment? I know one thing I do a lot of pick up rubbish. Especially when I'm walking around school. I kinda look crazy sometimes. o: But it's ridiculous how people throw their litter on the ground when a rubbish bin is just a few steps away. *Gnashes her teeth*

At home, we recycle plastic, glass, paper and aluminium cans every week. For lunch boxes, when I was a kid, I would just use an old ice cream container and draw pictures all over it. :3 I mean, kids would be horrible and tease me about it. =-= Pfft, them with their fancy fairy or action man lunch boxes *grumble grumble*...

My sister is obsessive about turning off light switches when you leave the room. She's shouted at me a couple of times about it. >_> <_<

I've also started having shorter showers, to save on water. Except when I wash my hair, which can be a pain, since it's so long. I don't leave the tap running when I brush my teeth anymore, either.

So yeah! I think that's my little-non-toxic-environmentally-safe-five-cents I've given to the world. <3 Feels good.

I do try to recycle, but this city is making it very hard with rather irregular patterns for picking stuff up. I also don't want to sit in my attic surrounded by bags of garbage that I can't get rid of. But I try.

My dad's always made sure we turned off the lights whenever we leave the room, so I always do that out of habit.
One thing I absolutely can't stand is if people leave the water running needlessly, oh it just makes me cringe! xD

Anyway! Um, what do I do... I don't litter. If there isn't a rubbish bin near by, I hold on to my trash until I can dispose of it properly. I've planted trees as a project about a year or so ago. Um um um. I told my boyfriend to never, ever give me a boquet of flowers because I prefer flowers in the earth, not in a vase or held in colourful wrap. Um. I have three of those bag thingies that's supposed to be environmentally friendly since they're reusable - no plastic bags from the shops to carry foods, or something. I recently discovered a product called BEE for washing dishes/surfaces/clothes and it's made out of 100% natural stuffs and even the bottle is biodegradable. Um, pretty much the recycling stuffs Azzy mentioned since we live in the same house . Shorter showers - I've always been good about that, though I admit it wasn't so much for the environment, it was just because I prefer it that way. I know there's more, but I can't think of it right now. WILL UPDATE LATER.

I hate it when people leave the water running, too >.<

When I was a little girl, we used to not have easy access to running water, so, it always makes me angry to see people around me waste it so carelessly

and who doesn't go around hugging trees? XD (if they're around, that is - I don't mean driving and travelling to a tree spot! if you do, then ... lol )

Apart from really trying to re-use anything I use.. and not wasting water, I don't think I do much else
and the former is really because I am such a hoarder, not because of my love for the environment

What do I do for the environment? Well, for starters, I don't drive a car, nor do I plan to ever drive one. I've found that I can go everywhere on my decrepit old bike or using public transport. Granted, me not driving a car isn't solely for environmental reasons, but my resolution not to start driving later on pretty much is.

I also try to do all my sea crossings by boat rather than by aeroplane.

I usually turn off anything that uses electricity when nobody's using it, though I occasionally leave the computer on for a short while because I don't feel like waiting an eternity for the bloody thing to boot up. My habit of switching off lamps occasionally causes annoyance in others.

That's basically it. I also don't litter, and seperate different kinds of trash, but that's kinda normal, really. Well, and I try not to waste too much paper, despite every effort by my school.

Oh, and like various others in this thread, it always annoys me when someone leaves the water running, but that may also be because of the annoying sound it makes.



Even you can do something to help the environment!
