Feeling Lucky?

Recently I started carrying around a rabbit's foot as a key chain for my house key. I haven't been someone who believes in luck, but good things have been happening since I've had it. Everything from grades to more people respecting me.

I'm starting to believe there is such a thing as luck.

So, what do you all think about Luck?

Re: Feeling Lucky?

Depends, good luck, no i dont belive in it. things happen becpouse you make them happen. with your aura, you migth say. if you think possitive and belive in yourself then good things will happen.
Now, in something i do belive in is in bad luck... heh i know some friends of mine that have had lots of bad things happen, only explanation i can come up with is bad luck.

Re: Feeling Lucky?

Well, what would those "Lucky Things" be specifically? I don't understand how rabbit feet are lucky, but maybe that's just me...

*Runs off to buy some Rabbit Feet*

Re: Feeling Lucky?

I don't believe in good luck or bad luck. If things are going good for you, there's no luck in there; things just happen to be going good for you. And same with bad luck. It's just....coincidence.

Heh I have a lucky rabbit's foot too....well I never considered it lucky, but it looks cool.....I have it on a fishing hat that consists of like 20 pins.

Re: Feeling Lucky?

Perhaps... perhaps I should be comparing this to a moto of mine...

'What's life without risks?'

Luck... risks... who knows?

I DO believe in good luck (a little) but I don't believe in like breaking a mirror gives you 7 years bad luck and walking under a ladder and all that rubbish. Perhaps the black cat one... I dunno. I'm rambling now...

I hate to be a killjoy, but there's scientific evidence available that could possibly prove that false.

Feb. 14 - It’s a common belief: a person’s positive attitude can help fight illness. But an Australian study, published in the Feb. 9 online issue of the journal “Cancer,” found no correlation between optimism and survival in lung cancer patients.
Apparently a positive mental state has no affect on a person's physical state.

You said things happen because you make them happen. I agree, our behavior and actions are responsible for some of things that happen in our future, and good behavior usually brings about favorable outcomes.

Actions are both mental and physical. Your mind is responsible for your behavior, the manner in which you take actions, and of course, your mind allows you to command your muscles to create those actions. But as studies have shown, your mental state plays no part in the physical side. I guess it all comes down to behavior. The questions remaining are: Does your mental state affect your behavior? Will thinking positively about the future and yourself cause you to have good behavior?

I answered both of the questions "yes". I agree with The Merchant 100%. Optimism = good luck!

Re: Feeling Lucky?

I think that if someone carries around a good luck charm, a rabbit's foot or whatever, and something good happens to them, they associate it with the fact that "it must be the rabbit's foot that is bringing me all this luck". We assume that the object we are carrying around is lucky. But what about when bad things happen? Do we blame that on the object as well? Just how lucky is the good luck charm after that?

Re: Feeling Lucky?

There is such a thing as luck, definetly. Luck is what is used to describe success (or, in some cases, failure) against all odds. If I were to miss getting crushed by a boulder, then I'd consider myself lucky.

It's also true that an object can imbue one with luck. For instance, if one were to have an object they considered to be lucky, then they'd generally try harder, have their self-esteem raised, and find that they succeed more. Yes, they won't have some sort of magical powers, but the fact that they believe they do will make it so. It's similar to the phrase "People will believe something is true, either because they want to believe it is or are afraid that it is."*

*Again, brownie points to whomever can figure out where that's from.

Re: Feeling Lucky?

I don't believe in luck at all. Not getting it from doing something bad or good. I understand the bad stuff happen to me all the time luck, though. Charms and all the other "bad luck stuff" I don't believe in.

But, what happens, happens. I don't think it's an object that gives that, but the person's trust in what they think that object does, yet is really is them.

I don't know where that's from, no brownies or points for me...

Re: Feeling Lucky?

i seem to have alot of bad luck. this past year really sucked. i went out with this one girl who made me the happiest id ever been and she kept dumpin me then whenerv she wanted me back, id crawl right back thinkin things would turn out for the better that time. but no she kept dumpin me. now we arent even friends and i cant express how much i hate her. now shes tryin to steal my new found friends and on top of that my grades SUCK and my parents are gettin a divorse. (my mom s third divorse and shes not even 40) so yeah my lifes in a tailspin and there seems to be no such thing as good luck.

Re: Feeling Lucky?

I always feel 'lucky.' However, I don't think that any items that I could collect could increase my luck, nor will doing things like walking under ladders decrease it.

There are good times, and there are bad, but overall, it is good.

Re: Feeling Lucky?

Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.

I think optimism isn't a magic cure all, but it does help. If you always look for the best, you are going to find it more often than the person who does not.

Re: Feeling Lucky?

It wasn't very lucky for the rabbit....

Luck is just another explanation for the good and bad things that happen to us that we don't want to blame on ourselves or can't accredit to anyone/anything. I don't have luck. Everything happens to me for a reason.
