Fanfiction.net.

I would like to know if people ever made friends and or have had people go on the wrong shoe regardless if you wrote your own stories just cause they don't like your criticism?

Here is mine and I have decided to mostly ignore ff.net unless extreme circumstances prevail.

I have made some friends but most people either ignore me or take things the wrong way even if I am harsh or try to apologize for anything that may have sounded mean or demanding. And the Mods are stuck up and seem to only help people if they are a fan of the work or something. They do not like newbies.

It's a gold mine for over emotional people and people who over praise their work.

Re: Fanfiction.net.

Fanfiction.net is a terrible place with awful writing. The stories are either stupid, out of character, cliche, or unoriginal. It's genuinely one of the worst spots to find tolerable stories.

Re: Fanfiction.net.

fanfiction.net is a great place to go for young writers who can write reasonable well.

Not to submit their works, mind you. But just to browse. When I'm feeling down about my writing, all I have to do is go to fanfiction.net, look at some of the most popular stories, and read them and their comments. Since they're almost exclusively crud, I immediately feel amazing about myself and my writing talents.

There are certainly some well-written peices, but they're in the minority. For the most part, fanfiction.net is one big, steaming pile.

Re: Fanfiction.net.

Sturgeon's law applies here; since anyone can submit anything to Fanfiction.net at least 90% of the stories will be a waste of space.

Out of the remaining 10%, 90% of those will only be passable.

This leaves about 1% of the stories being good enough to justify reading.

Really, I've avoided the place like the plague. There's just too much crud to make the good stuff worth hunting for, which is a shame, since good fan-fiction can be quite nice. (by definition, really.)

Re: Fanfiction.net.

I adored Fanfiction.net, once upon a time. It was the first site my parents allowed me to visit after they'd banned me from the Internet several months prior (a sentence gained thanks to fanfiction, xP). FF.net was recommended by a friend of mine, and its integrity (... indeed) verified by her mother.

The site was a godsend for a good, long while. I was very young, very silly, and over-enthusiastic; everything I read was new, and because it was new, it was splendid. I adored FF.net, and that adoration became a near religious love; my parents banned me from the site a year later, when I began to waste good printing paper on script-format humour stories in the Super Smash Brothers section by the truckload.

The ban offered me a fresh perspective on fanfiction, the Internet (and the horror of addiction, Oo). While I finally managed to have the ban lifted, my return to that glorious field of fanfiction was marred by the time I'd spent away from it. FF had lost its golden gleam. Nothing was new, and all its splendour had been worn away. Disenchantment gnawed at me the moment I stepped back into that place. And it has continued its gnawing, until I can now honestly say I find FF.net repulsive.

There were good authors - brilliant authors, in fact - on FF.net. But the ratio of work worth reading to the drivel one must dig through to get to it renders the endeavour next to useless. God gave me only so much energy, only so much sanity, and I'll be hanged before I expend that store digging through FF for something worth reading.

I would also like to take the time to say that the Super Smash Brothers section now makes me cry tears of blood.

:/

^ you should probably get that checked out by a doctor... crying blood is probably not that healthy...

Now that I got that crappy excuse for a joke...

I have actually only visited there twice as far as I know. So far from what i have read it is mostly crap or that they just ruin the characters.

Re: Fanfiction.net.

Power Shot does one on-going series on FanFiction.net: his PKM Rangers thing. He did, however, bash FF.net.

FF.net is a place I go to make myself feel better about my writing capability.

Re: Fanfiction.net.

My thought on ff.net is this. There is good material there, but it is buried so deeply under mountains upon mountains of total and utter garbage that the reward of finding something good is less than the total effort it takes to find it after wading through reams of unreadable trash.

FF.net is like some kind of hyper-version of Sturgeon's Law, 90% of it isn't crap; it's more like 99.9%, and that is NOT an exaggeration. If you were to pull 1000 stories of ff.net I bet only one of them would be good. The rest consists of Mary-Sue stories, horrifying wangst, pointless romance stories, and other abominations. Before the NC-17 story ban, you had base-level "erotica" on top of that...anyone remember infamous stories like "Agony in Pink" (so bad it got a fanfiction newsgroup BANNED in Australia) or "My Master's Touch?" Truly horrific.

Bah, I go one better than a doctor. Abstinence, :x

I will admit that FF.net has an interesting system for story submissions and tracking readers' interest in one's story. What meager 'quality of writing' that earlier existed plummeted while the submission process improved.

And 4th Triforce, I wasn't aware FF.net even had moderators, xD

Re: Fanfiction.net.

I only go to FF.net when I'm bored and tired and I want to laugh at very, very bad fanfiction. Although I invariably end up reading the same relatively well-written and sort of hot piece of tenth Doctor smut, so I sort of stopped doing that.

This site does one good thing, it gives me more confidence in my own writing. Then again I do not know how mine actually compares to most of it
