Hey Kedisar, I'm curious...

...About your homeschooling situation. You're always saying you wish you didn't homeschool, so obviously, there is someting preventing you form using a public school.

And I'm also a bit curious about how you do your work, too.

As you know, I homeschool as well... but it is, and always has been, my choice. If I were to let my parents know that I seriously wanted to go to a public school, they'd let me, and support the decision.

Up until recently, I've had trouble meeting people as well, which seems to be your main problem... but, lately I've been going to the Highschool for some Driver's Education classes, and I've just been going out of my way to socialize more (note the unusually long absences from ZU lately ). Heck, I'm even planning on getting over to Boston sometime soon and meeting Andi, in person. The problem is one that can be fairly easily fixed, if you're willing/able to put a bit of effort into it.

As for my work itself.. up until high school, I basically just leaned form my parents out of whatever text books or programs we had lying about. Once the High school credit became a neccessity, I started doing online courses (through Laurel Springs, if anyone cares). I'll also be taking a few classes at the highschool itself next year.

Oh... and how old are you, anyways?

Obviously, if you don't want to sate my curiosity, you have the right to remain silent

Re: Hey Kedisar, I'm curious...

Heh, I have trouble meeting people too. If I were homeschooled, I would probably gain a lot of weight, school actually gives me exercise (walking all the way there, coming home again, going home at breaks, exercise class).

I also think you should have PM:ed him about this instead, though.

Re: Hey Kedisar, I'm curious...

:::twirls in:::

i don't homeschool, myself, and i don't think my mom would ever let me, honestly... it's taken a lot of time to get me to be 'adult-sociable', and to develop peer relationships with people... but then again, public school is enough of homeschooling for me... i literally spent every class except for two with a book under my desk... ( and the two entertaining classes had entertaining teachers - one who seemed to have love affairs with their smurf figurine collections and a long rememberance of all of the fun snippets from the lives of all of the russian royal family, and one who just played football with us the entire time to demonstrate how vectors worked)... and i'm just an elitist jerk and never talked to any public school girls unless spoken to... argh, there's only so much time one can spend whining about how icky gym clothes smell even though they don't do anything in the class!

but if i did homeschool, lord knows i'd spend all my time online and never actually get much work done... or it'd reach the point where i'd just be bored out of my bloody mind...

but anyways, yeah, homeschooling wouldn't be bad, if i had more cool kids around here... personally, i'd love to go to a boarding school myself, but that's very much out of the question... unless i pay one of my friends to rent out of their apartment that's a three minute walk from my school... mrr...

Re: Hey Kedisar, I'm curious...

I'm not homeschooled, and the Dutch government makes it nearly impossible to be homeschooled anyway. (for some odd reason..)
If I were homeschooled I think I wouldn't do that bad, since my mom is (well, has been, amongst many other things) a teacher, and a good one too.

But I do think I wouldn't exactly meet many people as I'm horrible at making social contacts >_> really am.
well, I wouldn't spend more time online than I do know, since I already spend loads of time online.
I don't know, if government didn't make it so half-impossible..

Re: Hey Kedisar, I'm curious...

Hah, yep, all answered

Just for the record, I've only had 2 real friends during the last 8 or 9 years, so it's not as if I'm some amazing social person either

Your parents don't want you to drive? Ouch. That really sucks.

Re: Hey Kedisar, I'm curious...

There's a kid on my basketball team who is homeschooled, and i really don't know if he has any friends besides the ones on the team. He's thinking of going to public school next year, when he will be starting high school....

Re: Hey Kedisar, I'm curious...

Not that you asked me l-o-s, but, I'm homeschooled as well.

It's alright, I wouldn't know anything different since I never went to public school. My older sibilings were pulled out of public school though, and they turned out alright, well my sisters anyway

Anyway, as for social life..... I used to have one. I used to live in a city of 200,000. I had a friend one house down my street who also homeschooled, we were good friends. Then I had alot of friends in my youth group, but otherwise not many.

As for my social life now, I live in a dirt water(literally in the past few days) town, with 3000 population. Most of them are retirees. And since I have no job, or well anything, I have no connection or contact with anyone. Me and my comp. My parents too sure, but as far as social interaction..... you're reading it.

Re: Hey Kedisar, I'm curious...

Personally, I think it would be a slight disadvantage if you were homeschooled, one being you won't stick to the current cirrculium and either do too little or too much, though that can be somehow easily fixed XD

Also for the sake of telling, in Australia (more specificaly NSW), there is controversy over Private school funding. Private schools, even though they get funded more than enough by the parents, and just about everybody else, the government still gives them the same or even more amount of money as Public/Selective schools and Universites. At one point, the total amount given to Private schooling was more than the total funded to Universities! And now with the notion that Private schools have better facilities and staff, parents are sending their children there under the impression that their child will become the best! But just where are the results?

Public and selective high schools overall dominated the HSC in the top 100, where alot of the popular Private schools were lagging behind or not even listed.

I feel lucky to go to a school that ranked 3rd last year 2003 in the HSC, and best of all, I pay 20 times less than someone going elsewhere

Re: Hey Kedisar, I'm curious...

I thought that you went to an All Boys school, Chuc. Aren't they only private schools?

Anyway I've been thinking about getting home schooled for a long time. I feel like I'm being restricted at my school in my learning. I hate the way that most of the teachers at my school teach. I don't mind most of the students but they seriously distract me in class. The only reasons I still go to my public school is:
a)My friends, simple, no? I would become closer to my internet friends though.
b)Me health, keeping fit and healthy is one of my priorities, william Zelda4ever said why school is important in that aspect.
c)My studies in Japanese, if I was homeschooled I would not have a fluent Japanese speaker to help me out. That would be a big problem! Also I wouldn't have the chance to interact with Japanese exchange students like I do now. Most of all I wouldn't be able to go and live in Japan cheaply, like I hope to be doing this year.

Instead I do the alternative, this year I've started to do a lot more "Independent Studies" where I basically study by my self, sometimes in lower classes, sometimes in a room by myself. It's really good at the moment, ecspecially in computer

...and thats my story O-o

Re: Hey Kedisar, I'm curious...

What did private schools ever do to you, Chuc? I go to a private school (it's a christian school) and I like it. They recently bought the neighboring University campus and over an 8 week holiday there were 250 new students o_O
