Internet Slang

Recently I have been seeing alot slang around ZU. Not the bad 'n00b' slang but abbreviations, (Ex: lol, rofl, stfu) and some I cannot figure out what they mean. What I want in this thread is just post every slang/abbreviation you know and tell me what they mean.

As of right now, I don't know what "IMO" means and I see it alot!

IMHO: "in my humble opinion."

IMHO - In my honest opinion.

I've never seen anyone use it as 'humble'.

It can be either one (see Cio's link). I've always used it to mean "humble."

LOL- Laugh out loud
Stfu- Shut the F*** up

I assumed it was "wtf" backwards, in which, is technically the case, but while "wtf" means "what the fuck"... "ftw" means "for the win".

SNES = Super Nintendo Entertainment System
GC = Gamecube
GL = Goodluck

Another one I just thought of that can be confusing for someone not used to the internet: The words "win" and "fail," both commonly used as verbs IRL, can also be used as nouns or even adjectives in internet-speak.

Ex.: Rew's sig is pure win, but his avvy is full of fail. (:XD)

...Rotflol. (Rolling on the floor laughing out loud.) My favorite, but only because it's in Weird Al's White and Nerdy video.

On the whole, I rather detest internet slang. I feel it to be a disgrace to human language and grammar, and lacking in any linguistic integrity. It's hard to understand, and down right annoying.

Ex:

"Hello, I'm pleased to meet you. Would you like to be friends?"

Becomes:

"'SUP? Ur kool, letz b budz! XDDDDDD!"

I swear to god, one day I'm going to go on some ludicrous genocide against chatspeakers.

I always thought that ftw ment like **** the world or somthing when ever I first saw it. Lol.

I don't see a problem with chatspeak as long as it is not a serious conversation. I don't go on the internet to hear a bunch of tightwads complain about proper grammar.

I should have mentioned that there's a certain tolerance for it. I don't mind if you use one or two. But it's when the whole sentence degenerates into diced up...."words" that become incomprehensible that I flip. I don't care if you're like:

" *insert random funny sentence or pun, followed by* lol/lmao! " I don't mind that really.
