Blogs/Vlogs.
So I was thinking, after spending a bit too much time on youtube, why are we so obsessed with looking at other people complain about their lives, and/or complaining about ours?
Now I'm not saying this is true for everyone I have to admit I do like "What the buck" what the buck Mainly because of his hatred for all that is disney. And I do use Live journal to mainly just vent out things that I can't express vocally to others. But I was thinking what do you guys think about Blogs/Vlogs? Are they good? Bad? Do you actually care? Our they just a natural progresion from diarys and journals, like letters and emails?

Re: Blogs/Vlogs.
First of all - heyyyyy Life! =D
*chucks a pear over to the wee dude* Ok - I don't see why you'd question Vlogs and Blogs nOW since .. well.. that's how we humans have ALWays been. Step back and look at books, movies, pantomimes - they all address our lives and society, complain and analyse and challenge. A lot of the times, obsession with seeing others do it, quenches the thirst WE feel to say some of those things. Also - I think that people write diaries for HOPE that one day, someone might read them. I'm not sure I'd enTIRely believe someone who says that they never ever want that to happen :p Otherwise, why externalise what we mean to be internal? well.. perhaps not dURing our lifetimes >_> Personally, I really dislike making my rants .. well.. I was just about to say "public" but I'm not sure that's the right word. That is to say, of cOUrse I want sOMeone to read them if I am pushed to the extent of needing to release the rant from within me. But nOT in a place where it is "preserved". That is to say, I'll say it to someone, in the chatroom perhaps - something fast moving or exclusive. Where not everyone has access to easily or can go back to.. unless you're one of those insane idlers who've been logging conversations 24, 7 for years xD Eh.. I just try not to bother people with them so much =X Instead, incorporate the frustration or feeling of what I'd wanted to say into a story I'd fictionalise and say it through there - mAsk it as such so it's no longer aBOUt me, as far as readers are concerned. But aye.. don't know what else really |

Re: Blogs/Vlogs.
Ooh, blogs are fun.
Generally I don't read blogs of complete strangers online (and by complete strangers I mean celebrities or random blogs or whatever... I don't classify online friands as complete strangers) unless they're funny or on a nice subject matter. I might read a blog entry on something cool or interesting, but all-in-all I'm really not interested in the inane details of "I took my cats to the vet today" or "I lost the menu to my favourite thai restaurant this morning, and..." etc. I do read the blogs of friends, from the internet or in real life. I just really like looking at snapshots from the lives of others, even if they are biased. Our generation is one of complete technological connection, but isolation overall. We communicate more than ever, but less and less are we doing it face to face. This can be a double edghed sword- its advantages are obvious, but its disagvantages are there too- somehow I feel like today we spend less facetime with people then we're supposed to or something. I don't know. But anyway, I feel blogs- online journals and diaries- connect us a little bit more. There are some people who write in blogs like they do diaries, and diaries are always pretty full of honesty and emotion- honesty and emotion I can appreciate, feeling like I'm so cut off from the people I know. Not to mention, a smörgåsbord of information can be found from reading between the lines, and you can pick up on little things the writer didn't intend to put in, things they would have liked to have cover up otherwise. Evil fun. Quote:
On some level I feel like blogging is total narcissism. I always feel like a total narcissist when I do it- going on and on about myself, talking about things about which I really know nothing, blabbing on over topics in areas which I'm not studied. My opinions don't matter, and why do I go on and on in a place that is nothing more than a shrine to myself? Blogs, in a sense, I think, can inspire an attitude of self-importance and entitlement that, if gone unchecked, can run (annoyingly) rampant.

Re: Blogs/Vlogs.
I must confess to being a member of a social networking site, which I have blogged 7 times in total. It's mainly for the benefit of people I have known over many years, and it's not a rant blog either.
![]() Typically, I think most blogs are pointless journals of thought which people waste time on because they'd be so much better off just telling people whatever they write face-to-face, but that's just me. I've never seen much point of noting my thoughts and desires because I'm too open with people and wind up confiding more than I keep secretive. Oh well. ~ Adhamh. |

Re: Blogs/Vlogs.
I read Kotaku and Joystiq, both gaming news blogs.
Unique in that they are direct, update constantly and are not totally totally biased, as they stem from the community itself.

Re: Blogs/Vlogs.
I like Daxflame because he makes fun of all the crappy videos that get put up on youtube. He makes me laugh a lot. Other than that I pass up on the blog area. It's boring. I can't see myself reading about people or seeing people talking into a camera for no reason. If there's a good blog that doesn't just talk about daily lives I'll read it. Sometimes they can be entertaining.

Re: Blogs/Vlogs.
Blogs aren't necessary boring C: I agree there must be tons of people who start writing blog and hoping it might become popular and people would read it, but I prefer a blog meant only for friends to read, and generally discuss or contact them at the times.
Umm nevertheless, blogs can be fun, and that I mean art blogs or comic blogs. I actully prefer updating my art & comic blogs more than my 'normal' journal and also it's more likely I'll read/watch unknown peoples art journals than read written journals made by people I don't know. And it still works for journals purpose, venting out bit my feelings. I'm only intrested in reading my friends journals, it's even some kind of joke when we meet after long time and talk about past happenings, then say "oh yeah I read about that in your journal". Just like Lly pointed out, about this generation, heh heh...

Re: Blogs/Vlogs.
Well, my blog is SUPER SECRET, so noone gets to read it. But if someone stumbled across it, that would be alright.
I really just keep it as a way of storing the thoughts that crowd my head all the time. It keeps me sane, really.
