Where's the ZU Chatroom? Why, it's *finally* here in the forums.

Okay, so it took us about three-quarters of forever to even think of doing this, but we finally did it. The end-all to the "where's the Zelda Universe chatroom?" questions. The end-all to the "Is the chat room a part of the site or not?" questions. The end-all to anything else about the chat and, mostly, where it is.

Scott and I have prepared something neat that will allow everybody to get to the chat simply and easily. No effort required. For you see, all you have to do is click a link at the top of the forums. Yes, you see it there, the "ZU Chatroom" link. Yeah, we added that. Because we're awesome.

So, for those unfamiliar with the chat, let's get you acquainted real quick: The ZU Chatroom has been around for years and was started by our own webmaster James, possibly out of boredom as the history books hint at us, but this is unconfirmed. The chat is mostly comprised of ZU veterans and crazy folk, but for a while Scotty Boy 'n I have been thinking of ways to expand the chat to everybody, not just vet members.

The topic in the chat is rarely ever Zelda, so don't be surprised if we're discussing things that are pretty darn random.

Now that you've been introduced to the chat, you should totally visit. Maybe become a regular. It's fun as heck!

Some features that ZU's new built-in webchat thingie includes:

• Fits whatever forum skin you're using.
• Automatically sets your nickname to be your username if you are registered and logged in.
• Uses PJIRC - a well-known Java-based webchat client. It's lightweight, loads fast, and doesn't look too bad.
• It freakin' automatically changes your nickname to your username! Man I still can't get over that. :<
• Takes you straight to #zelda on irc.gnug.org - ZU's chatroom.

Why are you still reading this thread, then? I don't know. But I do know that you should be clicking the "ZU Chatroom" link at the top of the forums.

Only joking! I can see it just fine. That is to say, when I said "Where?" I was trying to fool you into thinking I did not know where the link to the ZU chatroom was, which is something that has evidently been annoying you for some time now, Fleegin'.

Anyway, I think this is the best idea since canned pie, and I shall certainly have to "Check it Out" as they say. But that doesn't mean that I'm going to take it out on loan, like a library book. I don't really want to. But I still want to investigate further into the nature of this, how you say, "Chatroom", Hastina Lish.

what a nice edition. I've never had a problem getting to the catrooms, but, this is more convenient anyway.

Awesome. I've popped over to the IRC a couple of times but I, like many other fairly new members just find it a bit user unfriendly. Not alot in there made much sense to me. What with all the commands you can do.

I think this new chatroom will be a great idea. It should keep down the spam around the boards too. 8)

What I find ironic is... why were people asking about the chatroom? It's not like the link to the chatroom on the site hasn't been there the ENTIRE TIME.

Not everyone scours the main page for every bit of info or things to do on it. Also, on the chat page, the link to actually get in is so hard to find that half of the people who want to get in never do.

This is far more convenient. Please pull your head out of your ass. :3

I'll correct that statement: Not anymore.

As of now, if anybody can't find the link on the main site page then they shouldn't be on the internets. I've rewritten about half of that page as of today, and included recommended 3rd party chat clients for all major OS's. Nobody should ever have a problem finding the chat again.

But I liked the mostly vet masquerade we had :((

... I found it! I was given a link, only two people were on, now there are tons!

Maybe it's because I always come on at the wrong time.

In any case, thank you, Jason, for adding the chatroom to the forums. Now it doesn't take me forever to get there. ^_^

Scott and moiph were awesome enough to team up and set up a "Chat Users" area at the bottom of the forums in the Who's Online? area. It lists all the people currently in the chat - so if you were ever wondering (for any reason, God knows what) who's in the chat at the moment you're thinking of entering (or the moment you're not), we now have a Who's Online? for the chatroom.

We have a chatroom?

I'll have to check this out.
