Hobbys? Any Crafty People?

Anyone here have a hobby? Ever make money off of it?

I Love to crochet. I made my friend a baby blanket for her daughter, and it took me months. It turned out so good, but I forgot to get a picture of it before I gave it to her.

My friend and I used to make necklaces and stuff with hemp and beads, ad then sell them at yard sales and stuff. it made money to pay for itself.

Re: Hobbys? Any Crafty People?

I sing, write, and draw as my main hobbies. I used to be interested in sewing, but that was years ago. I developed better interests. I've won in art competitions, written short stories for classes, and I was popular in my old school for my vocal talent. I can safely say I have great talent in all three. :]

I sell things on eBay? >_>
I used to make purses, and planned on selling those, but the idea never quite took off.

I used to make polyhedron models and give some as holiday gifts, but somehow, I seemed to have lost interest.

Re: Hobbys? Any Crafty People?

If being in love was a hobby, I'd put that down in a heartbeat. That would be my greatest "talent" right now. xD

But, I draw and create graphics.
I'm really good at writing, but I don't like to write.

And, I am also pretty damn fantastic in the skill of being awesome.

Edited for sarcastic content.

Re: Hobbys? Any Crafty People?

I play my guitar a lot. I'm in love with the thing. The rhythym guitarist for my teenage garage band sees having to sit down for a few hour and practice the guitar a terrible chore. I, on the other hand, loooove my guitar, and I love playing it. It's like each note is crying out to me, waiting to be played, waiting to have a specific mental impulse and emotion tied to that particular note. The same applies to riffs, the continous sequence of note after beautiful note.

Oh, and it's simply great fun to wail on a guitar.

I can't be sure if it's talent or just practice, but I'd say I'm decent at it. Most of my friends would agree, but then again, unless my friends were complete jerks, they'd agree that I was good even if I was actually terrible, so there's no telling there.

Re: Hobbys? Any Crafty People?

I have no skill in anything to do with crafts. I couldn't draw a straight line to save my life, even with a ruler. But, I do have hobbies that don't involve crafts or anything of that nature.

I play guitar when I have free time. I really am quite content to just sit in my room and belt out tunes for hours on end. Not that I mind performing in front of people, large crowds give me quite a rush, and I like to play when my family gets together. My brother and cousin both play instruments as well, so when we all get together we get some great mini-concerts going.

I also like writing. These days I'm not so much into writing fiction anymore (except in my head), but like to write reviews and article and editorials. Which sort of ties into my next hobby.

Watching TV. While lots of people may say this isn't a hobby, I watch TV almost always critically now. Sure, I watch some shows for the fun of it, but I really like just kicking back and watching shows and thinking critically about the message they are getting across, and how they are doing it. Whether it be something as simple as how a show is representing the high school experience, to deeper themes of modern feminism or the concept of forgiveness and redemption. So when I'm watching TV for those purposes, I consider it a hobby, and not as pure entertainment or just something to kill time with. Same can be said for when I listen to music sometimes, or watch a movie.

I also like reading, though I don't read as much as I used to. Still like to read every night before I go to sleep, and I have quite a number of books waiting for me at home to read when winter break comes, so I don't have to worry about getting my readings for school done over them.

Re: Hobbys? Any Crafty People?

Hobby? Hmm. Is doing nothing a hobby? If so, I'm an expert at that.

I only have a couple hobbies. One of them is tinkering with computers. Repair, take apart, build, learn, etc. Of course, I would like to turn that hobby into a career. Hopefully sometime soon.

The other: playing video games. If I know one thing, it's that I'm good at playing video games. The only way this is beneficial to my future is that only if I become some sort of pro gamer that makes money off of tournaments, become some sort of video game tester, or work for some sort of video game reviewing company (IGN, GameSpot, Game Informer, etc.). None make a great amount of money though. So I'm not entirely sure.

Why do I relate my hobbies to a future career? To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. I suppose I have a naturalness to plan for the future. Especially when it comes to long-term significant activities that may or may not be beneficial for my present or future.

Oh. Also, I have little to no artistic talent. My hands are an abomination. I write like a six year old. I'll admit sometimes I have amazing ideas (and people have confirmed that). It's just that my hands unfortunately don't accommodate my envisioned creation. Which, needless to say, kind of sucks.

Perhaps I should go play a game of chance with the Robot Devil to get some new hands (heh, Futurama reference).

I like making computer games for myself but otherwise...um... football? I'm okay at football. Monkey in the middle is good receiver practice.

Re: Hobbys? Any Crafty People?

I do alot of sketching, and Ive written a couple of stories. Im also working on writing a short novel. Oh and I have made a couple of cosplay outfits. One is a Vince Valentine outfit, which I kept, obviously. The other one was an Organization VIII cloak from Kingdom Hearts II, which I sold to one of my friends.

I practice fighting, but that doesnt really put any bread on the table. It just keeps it from being taken.

I paint and modify Warhammer models, mostly in the fantasy range but I do some 40k, especially if I need the parts for a fantasy model.

Re: Hobbys? Any Crafty People?

Yeah, I dont really enjoy making props, but I have made a couple before. (For my cosplay outfits, I was going to a cosplay convention) I made the Cerberus gun, and the Keyblade for the Organization XIII outfit. (It was actually Roxas's outfit, but it could really be any member if you had the right weapon.)

I do put together some models, But I have not done that in some time. (I used to put togther gundam models.)
