Re: what instrument do you play?

I'd say the same thing about the saxophone. Many people (not just me.) say that saxophone is easy to learn, but hard to master. I do believe that's the truth.

I've never played an oboe, though. I've heard they're harder then clarinet. Clarinet wasn't that hard for me, but considerably harder then the saxophone.

Yeah, saxophone is easy to learn, and for me its semi-easy to get good at. I've only been playing bari sax for 3 years, and I've been in the top jazz band in our college.

Flute is so hard because it takes a ton of air. When you play oboe, it's harder (comparatively) because there is so much pressure when you blow. The air hardly moves through an oboe, and I feel like my face is going to explode. LOL I'm so used to air moving freely. Bassoon was SO much fun to learn, and it's easier to move air through it.

Re: what instrument do you play?

I'd say the biggest difficulties of the bassoon is having enough air, making mistakes early on, crazy higher register fingerings, and for some being able to get the keys/holes at all.

Not having enough air is something I run into occasionally. Typically during my lessons I'll have several measures with straight notes and no rests and it's kind of hard there. That's something I'll probably get better at though.

Making mistakes early on is something I'd imagine is a problem for most if not all instruments. However I have reason to believe, not only from my first bassoon teacher telling me (she plays the flute too!), but from others and experience that bassoon is probably one of the worst. There are so many little things that you can screw up from the beginning, some typical of other instruments like embouchure, and others having to do with fingerings because the bassoon has loads of them!

The crazy higher upper register fingerings I haven't messed with too much. That is of course because I'm in my first year of playing the bassoon. However they are rather insane from what I've seen.

Reaching the keys/holes I'd imagine is a huge problem for some. They've ever made different models for people with smaller hands. I don't have that problem, it's mainly in the thumb keys that get me the most. -_-

If some of that seems crazy or wrong or something it's probably because I'm still basically a beginner at the bassoon. Those just seem to be the most common difficulties I see.

That was my problem. My fingers are delicate. Oboe and Bassoon stretched the heck out of them when I played. LOL

Re: what instrument do you play?

I wish I could say I can play an instrument.
A year ago I almost took drums, but I didn't end up doing it. Though they, and possibly flute, are something I'd like to pursue in the future.

Re: what instrument do you play?

The best band innuendo is definitely "when it doubt, pull it out." I got in trouble with my girlfriend's mom for that one.

I am a music education major, and I play the tuba. If you ever need any advice, I can be sure to give you some. I was first chair in the All-State Concert band my senior year, and made tons of others honors ensembles, so it's all good.

I also play the trombone. I think it's cooler. I'm not as good at it, but oh well.

I find it easier to play the oboe, with regards to blowing. The clarinet needs more air, and the flute needs a different sort of embouchure that I can't do. My lips suffer when I play the oboe, though. With the clarinet you can rest your teeth on the mouthpiece; it just kills me that you can't rest your teeth on the oboe, and I have rather large front teeth so I get tired very easily.

Now I'm not in any sort of symphonic band or orchestra, and I'm learning to play the ukulele.

I've played a baritone sax before... I sucked though. XD (that was before I learned the alto...) Still it's a lot of fun.

Go bari saxes! My best friend a few years ago played bari sax.

I play the violin for 10 years now. I actually wanted to learn the piano but my parents hand't enough money to pay one, so then I chose the violin.
