Parachuting

So, I'm booked in to do a parachute jump this coming Friday with a couple of friends, for their 20th and 21st birthdays.

Has anyone here ever been parachuting? If so, what was your experience like? Or perhaps some of you really want to give it a go? Personally, I think this stuff is crazy, I'm actually surprised at myself for going along with it, though I do think it could be one unforgettable experience.

I should be jumping at about 13,000 feet altitude. Don't worry, I'm taking extra underwear......

wowzers, parachuting! never done that before! I've been bungee jumping, i suppose thats relitively the sameish...
just dont think about hitting your head on anything, and you should be fine, just listen to instructors, they know what to do! just dont let them come near you otherwise they push you...cheeky so and so's...

and yeh, you WILL need extra undies!

One of my aims in life is to go bunjee jumping or skydiving/parachuting, I absolutely love thrills which involve heights.

Bungee jumping? That's something I don't think I could do.

When I went to a festival a few weeks back, Global Gathering, they had a bungee set up in the middle. I remember watching them, and seeing their bodies spring and bend around in the nastiest positions. A lot more can go wrong with it, too. I've heard of broken ankles, the rope wrapping itself around peoples necks and even the retinas of your eyes being dislodged from the force of it. No thank you!

Eek. I'm too much of a coward to do that sort of thing. I wouldn't bungee jump, because I'd rather not have my insides being juggled over the place. And I think my slight fear of heights might be a bit restrictive if I tried to go parachuting. But that's what courage is all about, eh? Hah. Good luck with that, DK. It's pretty crazy stuff.

Heh, thank you! Courage? More like a more than needed push out of the door! We'll see, I have no idea what I'm going to be thinking when I'm up there. One minute, I'm quite nervous, the next, I think I'm going to front flip out of the plane!

yeah, i had a rope burn on my ankles after wards, ouch!

I skydived from 14 000 feet in australia, over the ocean. It was absolutely glorious. The 2 worst parts are watching someone jump before you, and having your feet dangling from the aircraft. What a rush that was I'm sure You will have a good time

I just imagined what it would be like having your feet dangling and my spine tingled so much!

Well it doesn't register as much as bungee jumping as the ground is close enough, skydiving (especially over the ocean like I did) the ground is so far away it doesn't really register that its ground but then you know you are in a plane and you are like... OOOHH DEAR.

Really? The worst part was watching others go first? I've just got back from being with the guys I'm jumping with, and said I wouldn't want to go last. I want to see them fall, I'd either find it hilarious, or extremely worring now that I've thought about it.

I can imagine it's going to be pretty much the rush of my life. All this talking about it is making me really excited. Over the ocean would somehow be....more comforting! But, I guess it will be awesome to see proper land getting closer and closer.

No way, I'd parachute or skydive, but I have gone para-sailing.

How was para-sailing? It's something I wouldn't mind having a go at, looks fun.

My jump was over the ocean, but like lined up so we end up on ground so I guess it was half and half. The scary part about seeing others go first is that you actually figure out that yes you are indeed going to huck yourself out of a perfectly functionning aircraft.

FIY people usually start "shaking" at around 8000 feet

Oh and your doing this tandem right? if your going to freefall at 13 thou ? try to get a video of it... its quite worth it after

I loved it so much that I am actually getting my liscence for freefalling now only 10 more jumps and I;m there so if you have any more questions before the deed I am available

Wow. You guys make it sound really fun. O_o; Looks like I'm missing out on quite a bit.

How many jumps in total to get a license? And I take it you have to be 18+ to skydive?

If I did that I would puke in mid air, I would fall faster than my puke, and when I come to the ground it would nail me.
