The OFFICIAL "Zelda Universe 2007 GRANDE Meet-up" thread

Zelda Universe GRANDE European Meet-up
Date: August 11th 2007

Alright Folks!

As many of you may very well know, today was the day the biggest Zelda Universe meetup ever to be organised was due to be held. Members crossed land, sea and air to make the event and I can only describe it as being FANTASTIC!

Unlike the previous meetup thread where I gave a full length commentary, thereby hogging the spotlight and giving you the details from a single perspective, I would like for this thread to be a joint effort between the attendees whereby we can all share the experience from as many angles as possible.

The meeting was arranged so that we would all congregate at Jubliee Gardens, right next to the London Eye. Waking up was difficult as I only managed to fall asleep at 12:30am, and witnessing the moment afterwhich I will never be referred to as being a teenager for the rest of my life. The Alarm was set for 5am, since the long and tedious task of preparing the savouries and sandwiches which should have constituted the greater portion of the day's food needed to be prepared. I ended up preparing nothing, but rather took to bossing Asia and my younger sister around and helping by merely laying the foil sheets between the layers of sandwiches. Hearing me snap: Hurry up and make more sandwiches! kept the girls on their toes and prevented them from slacking as I HAD to break the record of not missing a train with Asia.

All in all the preperations went well and we were in Birmingham New Street station a staggering 10 minutes early! Sufficient time to pop into WHSmith and purchase a new set of Duracell AA's. On the train, the journey was entertaining yet annoying at times. It was fun trying to get in touch with the guys and see how far they were in their journeys but due to bad mobile reception for the greater portion of the journey, our messages were lagging and numerous attempts at getting in touch by calling each other failed miserably.

Asia also must've repeated the question: "Who're you looking forward to meet?" and "Are you feeling anxious?" No less than 3544562232222456 times .

We were due to meet with the ZU Oldbie Nenue at Euston station at 10am sharp, a couple of minutes late but no major harm and finally we saw her . It was quite the experience for me to be honest as having known Nenue for 4 years exactly now, I didn't quite know how to react or what were the right words to say, but it went by extremely smoothly and I was thankful for that . A Special Thank You for your gift Nenue, I appreciate it and the sentiments that carried it, so thank you once more.

Then....I was politely told to go away The girls scurried off to a coffee shop (I believe) to catch up and talk and agreed to meet with the rest of the group at the place and time agreed. I on the meanwhile got in touch with Domanic/unowho who was already at the venue. Skipping through London via the underground, and with GPS guidance from Dom finally got my bearings right, found the place and met up with Dom for the second time . He was also accompanied by a friend called Russell who remained with us for the remaining duration of the day.

A Special Thank You for your gift Domanic, clever and simple, it really boosted my mood and set me in a better position to enjoying the day, so thank you once more.

One by one the ZUers came, first Yami and Moo, then Tiroth, followed by Asia and Nenue, next came SacredSturgeon closely folowed by SuperDecimal! Finally, and after travel delays arrived Lioness.

The day was a mixture of food, group discussions, less food, chatter, lesser food, banter, (by this stage, everyone stopped eating for some reason ), and so so much more! Every member will recall what stood out most for them during the day and I would like from them all to contribute to the thread by sharing the different aspects of it with the community in their own style and order.

Another two Special Thank Yous to SacredSturgeon and Lioness for their gifts, I really really appreciated them both and thank you both for your thoughtfulness and going out of your way to get me something.

I just want to say that I had the most fantastic day today, and that I was happy to see each and every one of you guys and glad you all went to the effort of waking up, preparing yourselves and making it on the time agreed. I would also like to give another Special Thank You to Nenue, SacredSturgeon and Lioness, our European guests who went through the effort of booking flight tickets and flying over to the UK to make this truly an International meetup that currently stands on the peak of Zelda Universe Meetups in terms of number of attendees and varying nationalities.

So Thank you ALL and may the next meetup be bigger and better!

Also to note: Due to how late it is for me at the moment, I won't be posting any pictures tonight, but will definitely get to doing it as soon as possible tomorrow, so please check back and give your feedback!

"Yami and Moo" and "Asia and Nen" aren't exactly one by one, are they?

And yeah, I'm too stingy to buy you a birthday pressie. Sorry!

My photos will be appearing tomorrow too, because I can't be bothered doing them tonight.

Re: The OFFICIAL "Zelda Universe 2007 GRANDE Meet-up" thread

Is this going to be the first reply? EDIT: Dang - took too long. Fourth reply.

Today was very much a fun day. McCloud already pointed out how late it is in England, though, so I'll make this brief and deal with photos tomorrow - or, rather, once photobucket finishes uploading them and Asia lets me know which ones (of her) I'm allowed to put on display.

Apologies to everyone there who thought the pics of Asia were all great, but I made her a promise and don't intend to back out. :/

Part of my highlight was probably getting to drag three of my fellow ZUers across the ground, although I don't think anyone got a picture of it (if you did, PLEASE POST IT!). They seemed to think I was strong for some reason, but I'm actually a bit of a weakling.

One last thing (more will follow tomorrow) - despite what Asia and her "consorts" say, they only won a single battle throughout the entire day. The rest of the victories were mine.

Yet another reason why I wish I lived in England.

Nah, but seriously, between this the biggest meetup in ZU's history and the announcement of GC's new ownership of the forums, this is truly a landmark day for the site!

I was too poor to buy you a birthday present.

But hey, my appearance was my present to you!

Glad you had a fun day out, as did I, and I hope we do it again someday.

I'm so jealous. When the pictures get posted I might actually just turn green. All you lucky people getting to meet up and whatnot, eating delicious sandwhiches. s'Not fair that my country is too big for there to be a feasable meetup. *grumblegrumblecurmudgeon*

Great to hear that everybody had a great time (well, I havn't seen the sunday tabloids yet, so I'll take that back if one of you sell your story to the News of the World) and a safe trip back to those of you who had to travel over to England.

Float your 'citing!

Amazing! It's great to hear that it was such a success. I feel a slight envy creeping in. Let me join in with the "my country is too big" chorus.

Can't wait to see where the next meet-up will be.
