Re: Newbies to oldies

I don't consider myself a newbie or a noob. Although others probably do.

Obviously newbie has to do with time, because Jehanne won most mature newb.
But noob probably means immaturity.

I think we're all getting our terms mixed up.
What is an "oldie" and what is a "Veteran"?

If we say that an Oldie is someone who's been around for a long time, was here through all sorts of ZU drama and events and is respected and remembered/known by quite a good number of people and have made an impact somehow on the forums and/or members before..

And if we say that a Veteran is a respected and cool savvy forum member, who is almost instantly known everywhere through virtue of their fame and have made some sort of impact on the forums- then both differ =)

If you're an oldie, you're both that and a vet, but the reverse is not true :p

In that case, I'd say that cool phenomenons such as Panique ARE vets, but not oldies. No, not an oldie.
musical- you're still working your way and carving a personality in our minds. But not yet. You're getting there, though ^___^

It all depends on how much we see you around, and the quality of your posts.
Like Vega, some people who HAVE registered a long time ago but I only just start to see them around - are newbies to me. It's not all to do with the join date.

Also, being a member of the chatroom greatly increases and speeds up the veteraning process xD

Anime_queen, you know me fairly well seeing as you adopted me, would you say i am a newb or a reqular member?

I like ganonbob was quite immature when i joined, but i hope people have realized that i have matured while i have been here, and i hope people can appreciate that.

Re: Newbies to oldies

One surefire way to tell a vet?

When even newbies such as myself call you by your earlier name that you've since changed and we've never seen before! *cough cough Asia! cough cough*

Anyway, I guess I would see the "pecking order" as newbie, regular, veteran, oldbie. Actually, I almost think of oldbie as someone who was here in earlier days but not as involved anymore. Vets, though, retain involvement (or has gotten reinvolved) over the years.

And of course n00b (to be distinguished from newbie, it must be said!) is a perpetual state for the infantile until they finally decide to come to maturity.

Um, let me see. I guess I'm a regular member by now. This is my pecking order.

n00b: Who cares? They'll be gone soon anyway.

Newbie: 0 days to a month

Regular Member: 1 month to a year

Veteran: 1 to 2 years

Oldie: 2 years or more

OMFG! Why don't you leave already!?!: More than four years.

Please tell me if I got this wrong.

Oh nono.
Think about it - even if it breaks you, it still makes you a vet. There's a reason why someone "infamous" is still "famous" ;p

Actually Radek - you're mixing all of this up.

And so we have a textbook example of why I'm still very much in the newbie stage! :XD

Newbies: those who pontificate authoritatively on matters relating to vets, only to be proven completely wrong by said vets.

Re: Newbies to oldies

I have no idea what I'm considered--but generally if you've been here for a year and know your way decently enough around the forums (or, in cases like mz, I've gotten used to seeing you around), I just view you as a regular member. Then there are those people I recognize instantly, like Asia and BGS, and think of as vets, but I never really get specific with the labels once you become a regular member in my eyes. *shrugs*

Re: Newbies to oldies

Newbies are small forum users, in my opinion.
They just are new and need some guidance on the forum, that's all.
In any case, I personally believe people become veterans
approximately after a year.

You gain respect by earning it, not just because you've been on an internet forum longer than others.

Re: Newbies to oldies

*wonders what people think of me*

Anyways... oldies, vets, newbs... I don't honestly care.

The way I see it: I like you, I am neutral towards you, You annoy me, I hate you or, I don't know you

Those are my rankings. For the most part everyone is neutral on my list. Good lot on my I like list, few on neutral, few on hate, and a whole lot on I don't know.

Re: Newbies to oldies

I have no idea what I'm classed as, and I don't really care. I've been here now for about 2 and a quarter years and still I don't seem to be that well known. Though yeah, that's probably my fault . I've become less activce lately and my post count has barely gone up in the past 4 months or so. But I'm determined not to leave ZU. *holds up fist in triumph*

I think you're generally a newb until you've been here for at least 6 months or so, depending on the maturity.
