Re: Yay. First Job.

It depends what kind of thing you enjoy doing. I'd reccomend maybe Indigo, because you'd get a nicer, calmer, more laid-back clientele than a fast food or movie rental joint -- since you're here you enjoy video games, so maybe Microplay's your thing... the people may be closer to your age, but that's not always a good thing.

I'd stay away from fast food and BlockBuster, but all that's based on the information you gave me. Wage, hours and personal preference should all play a part.

I suppose I should have said my personal preferences.

I like video games, books, and movies. And really don't wish to work fast-food. However, as my mother rattles on about 'My choices are limited'.
I'm fourteen, and I guess I"m happy that none of them turned me down because of age. They took the resume and seemed pretty happy. My mom' apparently an 'expert'. So when I told her what each of them said, I 'apparently' have a good chance.

Re: Yay. First Job.

Well... knowing where I plan to work when I'm old enough (meh, even though I'm 14, they won't let me), I would say book store. : D

You can never go wrong with a book store.

I really want to work at a bookstore maybe next year... :3

Wow.
The opinions of someone my own age. You must be of the rare ones who know life's not a party where you're cool if you get suspended. Books are really great, that's why I want to work there.
Thank you all for your considerations. ^_^

It does.
It might be cause this is multi-choice.
I think it's because, for example, about 70% of all the voters voted Blockbuster. It doesn't compare them out of 100, just the percent of people out of all the members that voted the option.

Look at it this way, 66% of the six voters voted blockbuster as one of their choices.

Re: Yay. First Job.

To hell with all of them. There's always a need for laborers. Plus better hours, (usually) better pay and you can do it all under the table. On top of that, you don't have to deal with mass amounts of people like you would at a store or restaurant.

The only time I've *ever* worked in foodservice was every October for a few years for some guy who sold Apple Fritters at the local fair. Was nice; free delicious fairground food and under the table pay (and a few of my friends were working with me) but I couldn't imagine doing that for any longer than I did.

Re: Yay. First Job.

Blockbuster. Out of the two I recognise (the other being McDonalds), that would seem the better option.

Of course, 150% of ZU can't be wrong.

I'm in agreement that if you can get (and do) a physical job, that would be better. You'll get exercise and feel like your work is actually contributing to something. I'm not sure about the hours and pay -- but physically and psychologically it can really pay off.

While that would be nice, I am not a fan of manuel labor. (I'm not lazy, but I don't want to lift heavy boxes and ****). There's I girl I know, her name is Alisha. She lifts heavy boxes for money, after the day is done. Her fingers are so sore that she can't even reply on msn.

I see. Well, I have to be a little older to do that type of work in this town. (16 at least). Which is in two years.

Re: Yay. First Job.

Oh, well in that case, I'd go for the book store. You'll get to see what other people read and probably get some sort of discount on books you want to buy.

:p

Re: Yay. First Job.

I'd work at either the bookstore (you meet the nice girls there, hehe) or the movie theatre (free movies!!).

Stay away from fast-food joints..you'll have an allergic reaction and break out in fat all over :0S

Re: Yay. First Job.

Well, most bookstores won't hire you, because you have to be 18 as they do sell some adult material after all.

I'd go with Caps suggestion and do manual labor work. Adding on to that, you also get construction experience from it, depending on what type of manual labor work you do.
