I just finished my freshman year, and while I got phys ed done with in the summer, I know that showering is optional in my school. I think that most schools have it that way now. If you have to, pretend that it doesn't bother you, because I have heard stories of them giving others a hard time.

If you find that your eyes are looking at something that they shouldn't be looking at, then SLOWLY move your eyes to a different direction.

And yeah, make sure that you wear something like flip flops, because the floors of the showers will NOT be clean.

Err, well I don't know about you but I would feel most certainly uncomfortable being naked infront of loads of guys.
And yes I do think the immature kids of this generation would make fun of other kids for that.

So then there you go....now you understand why mandatory showers is bad.

Physical Education was always the last classes of the day at my high school so we didn't require showers, although we had them. I usually just drove home and took a shower after school, but now that I'm at college it's a different story.

I don't see this as a big issue, but I'll post anyway.

It was kinda mandatory to shower in my high school after wrestling. That was to prevent skin infections and therefore it was warrented to shower. Its a little embarassing at first, public showering, but after awhile you don't notice. Some people who are homophobic could see public showering as a problem, but its nothing major in my opinion.

I showered with girls when I was in third grade, after swimming class. I didn't even know what sex was then! And boys would peep on us. Talk about awkward.

Believe it or not, that statement is true. My school was filled with pedophiles.

Point is. Showering is good for you. If you feel uncomfortable, just wear some damn swim trunks.

By the way if anyone does catch you looking. If they say anything about being gay. Just say I'm sorry I just never saw one that small before. Makes them shut up real quick.

communal showering is no big deal. after the first time, you get used to it. just keep your eyes up, and you'll be good.

Im not worried about it or anything. As far as I know, we dont have to. I just wanted to know what you guys think about it, and if you HAD to or NOT.

Completely agree with Vega and _FTW_

It is natural to not want to show all and sundry your naked body, irrespective of genre of people using the communal showers. I can understand it not being a big deal for young kids who won't feel any awkwardness usually since they know nothing of that sort of thing yet- but definitely not sexually aware older children and teenagers O.o

Then again, this "oh it doesn't matter" school of thought seems to be more a guy's thing than a girl's (guys feel less awkward?) - an example I'll use is the way guys would happily pee in front of each other etc.

To me, it IS more than strange for something like that to be obligatory. Wrong and unacceptable even, in fact.

I don't know about you, but I am a guy, and I would - no way, no how - get naked infront of another guy watching. It just wouldn't happen.

"It doesn't matter" - shutup you stupid schools. We have a right to our bodies and forcing us to get naked infront of each other is just wrong. And no, I will not wearing swimming trunks. That leads to even greater embarrasement "Hey look, it's trunks/swimmer". Some of you older people here are saying "just wear em'", are you of our age? Do you know what it is like to grow and live in this generation? No, you don't.

In highschool it is an eat or be eaten world. You try to get as less embarrasement as you can, and try to get as much of the good. I am not ashamed of my body, I just do not wish to show it off to other people.

And Anime_Queen....we don't really pee "infront of each other". We have urinals and you must be pretty weird to start peeping beside you to try to see something. Trust me, I would not pull out my "bom chicka wah wah" and show it off to another guy, it won't happen.

If it was optional, I'd agree - I just wouldn't shower there. But if you force us to get naked....that's pretty nasty if you think about it. "Take off your clothes"....

I can't say I like the idea of random men seeing me naked. Might as well start an erotic webcam organization and make money out of it in that case.

Anyways, this is plain and simple. No one, ever, has the right to force me to get naked. You tell me to get naked against my will - I'll punch you in your face. I'll rip you to shreds with my bare teeth....

I, again, back up _FTW_ completely. Any person or organisation trying to force people to get naked in public should be investigated. How something like that is seen as acceptable by some of those who wrote earlier in teh thread is beyond me :/

Note - we're talking about mandatory public communal showering, and not voluntary.

I've had mandatory group showering before. But that's the military; and when everybody is required to do it, it becomes less of an issue. Public schools should probably just give the kid the option to stink. As long as you shower once every 24 hours, it shouldn't kill anybody.
