If you have ever met someone famous, i.e., a singer, actor/actress, or sports celebrity, or any celebrity in general, please post your experience here, like the who, what, when, where, and how, and also tell how that person acted towards you.
2004 Olympic Hockey Gold Medalist Mark Knowles, I went to High School and Primary School with him along with several NRL players and a smattering of local personalities, the one with the most media coverage being a guy called Will Kemp who went on to become a Zoo Keeper at our smallish town Zoo, out of my entire school year he has had the most coverage in the local newspaper the media tart that he is. Although I don't know if it counts because a knew them before they where famous. Nothing really that counts as omg I'm talking to a famous person. Not like my Mum meeting Leo Sayer on a Plane flight on a School Trip she took went on when she was in grade ten.
Let's see...I've met Steven King at a movie rental place (yes, I know, I was siked too), I've met Dan Brown at a book signing, Sam Waterson, and my father had a student that was in the movie "Christmas with the Kranks" (I can't remember his name, but he's done other roles aswell).
And when it comes to close calls, my sister almost saw Halle Barry while at Harvard (she was there to accept an award), and I saw Jimmy Bruer on stage (he isn't funny...I guess I had to be high).
Although I wouldn't say it was much of a meeting. I was watching him at the SAP Open, and he won the match against some guy, and I had bought one of those huge tennis balls. After the match, he was signing autographs on other people's papers and tennis balls and visors and whatnot, so I got his autograph as well
Heh the entire Stanford NCAA starting team (im second string so i should have met my teammates right?). I have also met Bill Gates (you all know this guy), Larry Ellison (CEO and founder of Oracle) and Michael Griffin (head of NASA) personally through my dad.
During last week's visit to Italy, I met with British Poet Benjamin Zephaniah. Many of you might not recognise the name at first, but he's the guy who rejected an OBE 3 years back, and went public with why he rejected it. It caused quite a stir here in the UK, but I'm sure other countries caught the headlines in their local news stations too.
A long time ago, while my mom was working at Denny's Restarant as a waitress in Florida, she waited on that guy, Richard what's-his-name, the man who played the role of Magyver, on that show. He was really nice, and gave her his autograph.
All the members of Barenaked Ladies, but I've only really talked with Ed Robertson.
All three members of Rush, a couple times each. Never been to one of their concerts though.
A couple of local TV personalities, two of whom were hosts of a block of kids TV shows. I saw them on the street when I was in high school and yelled out their names. They turned and asked "Aren't you a little old to recognize us?" I probably was, but one of them had been the host since I was a little kid, so not really.
Then I met Kenneth Opel once, the author of the Silverwing series of books, at a book festival. And I met the the author of Bright Lights, Big City in an airport randomly.
Also, my friend goes to school with a child actor, and when I went to her party he was there when he was pretty cool and he hung out with my group for a little while. Darned if I can remember his name, though.
I met one of the players on the Washington Redskins once in middle school. He came to talk to the students in an assembly. He told us he played against other professional teams and players, including Jerome Bettis and Cordel Stewart, who were on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Oh, professional American football is fun to watch. :3
