Computer...Ruined...

Something dreadful just happened to my comp, something that could take a long time to fix. It keeps on trying to intstall Logitech mouse drivers every time I turn it on, which I don't even have on it. And it won't let me get into the Main Windows 98 Setup, just this wierd Phoenix operating system one.

I might re-install Windows, but that would delete everything, that is why I havn't done it yet, and probly won't. I am going to try to Email Compaq to see if they know anything about it, but I am just alerting everyone at ZU. I'm at my brothers comp now, and will rarely be able to get on it.

I've some questions:

What IS a Phoenix OS?

And would QuickRestore delete my harddrive?

There's a chance that you got a virus downloaded onto your computer, as I've never heard of "Pheonix". I'm not sure if Windows 98 has System Restore, but if it does, and you have it enabled, then use it. It could help you out a great deal.

A reformat is the next best option in this case probably, though you'll want to back up all files you want to keep - songs, pictures, etc..

Uhm.. Phoenix OS is probably some kind of OperatingSystem.. never heard of it o_O
I'm not familiar with quickrestore cd's since we don't have any..

I have a sugestion, put your harddrive in your brothers comp then take all your files to is, then take you, reinstall windws (and make sure you format the drive) then take the files back..

I've reformatted my computer several times and I just backed up the files by sending them to my dad's comp through the network connection. Although if you can't even gain acces to the files I don't think there's much to it. Use Quick Restore or just reformat(rather that than not being able to use the files anyway, right?)

Anyway, if you think the virus is the reason you shouldnt put your harddrvie into your brothers computer, but if you are in netork he would probably have it already..

Well, I can't get QuickRestore to work, and the Phoenix Bio won't let me into it. And I can't back up my files or even acess them. Wow, SH, I might wanna look at that...

Phoenix BIOS is the core operating system of many computer's motherboards. If your comp is showing that instead of Windows, or DOS or anything, that means there is something horribly wrong with your main operating system.

BIOS controls the startup of the computer's hardware, such as the hard disk drives and floppy disk drives.

couldn't you just install the mouse??? then it wouldn't pop up...
i have no idea if that'll work cause i've never had this happen.. I'd listen to those who know what they're doing first.
