TO start off I believe in ghost. My mom works with this lady and she has a ghost in her house. its just a old friendly old woman her name is rose and she used to live there. she doesnt come very often and ive never seen her but my mom has and her bosses family. anyways the firts time my mom saw her rose would make this loud buzzing sound near her ear this she saw her. i was at school in the library and i heard the same buzzing sound near my ear and it scared the crap outta me no one else heard it. so do any yall anything bout this?

Sometimes my ears buzz. It almost sounds like a kind of static in my brain. Although I'm not sure exactly what causes it, I can assure you it's not a restless spirit. I imagine it has something to do with the eardrum.

Re: Buzzing near my ear; Ghost?

Believe it or not I get that all the time. Its because of me listening to loud music/playing drums and being in marching band for 2 years. It's usually just my ears telling me not to do something.

But, you maybe saying, oh but I was in a library. Yea? I get that in quiet places as well, its just my ears and it might be yours too. Who knows

Re: Buzzing near my ear; Ghost?

I'd be willing to bet you all I own that it wasn't a ghost.

There are a few (thousand) alternatives, here are a few:
A noisy fan/air vent near where you were; sound doesn't travel all that far in a library (too many good insulators all stacked next to each other). So, you'd hear it, others wouldn't.

An insect.

Tinnitus (ringing in your ears).

Random noise from outside (Say, someone using a jackhammer a block or two away.)

Vibrations/noise from traffic.

The list goes on.

Re: Buzzing near my ear; Ghost?

First off, we can rule out the possibility of it being a ghost. If nobody else heard it, it is inside your ear, or inside your head. Ghosts might not follow the laws of physics, but air molecules do, and that's what stimulates your ears.

As for what it could be, that's impossible to know. My guess is, either something went wrong in your ears or your brain, but some part of your body fabricated it. A quick google search will show you many ways your body can do this. Tinnitus is the likely culprit, which isn't just ringing, but in some cases, "blowing, roaring, buzzing, hissing, humming, whistling, or sizzling," often for just a few minutes at a time. According to the site, almost everyone experiences it at least once.

Second, how do you know it was exactly what your mom heard? It's not exactly easy to describe a particular tone. Can you give us her description?

So, he climbed out of his crib? I used to do that all the time. (Though doing so cost me a tooth once... The hazards of using your mouth to climb...)

Re: Buzzing near my ear; Ghost?

A mosquito can be as loud as a drilling machine when it flies very near your ear. And the person standing 15 centimeters from you wouldn't hear it. So... No it's not a ghost

It's if you listen to something loudly.

If you listen to music with earphones at all, you're bound to have buzzing ears.

Not quite. Everyone's ears ring at least sometimes. Persistent ringing means that your ears have been damaged (or you have a chemical imbalance.) Ear damage is most likely caused by infection or listening to noise over 70dB for extended periods of time. Headphones can reach 70dB, but simply using them with the volume at low levels won't harm your hearing.

Re: Buzzing near my ear; Ghost?

It's not just that GDwarf.

The fluids within your ears are extremely sensitive to noise, and also are connected throughout your face and head. For example, if I grind my teeth, I can hear it in my ear, because there are connective tissues running through my head. Also, I have a condition like this, called TMD, where my jaw pokes into reflexive tissues in my ear socket. I get ringing in my ears ALL the time.

Ghosts are bullcrap made up by little kids. No, it's not a ghost. It's your ear fluids reacting to the world around you; either that, or you're insane.

Re: Buzzing near my ear; Ghost?

Good ol' tinnitus, my ears ring quite often because of this fun ailment. Not as often or as loud as my father's ears, but still, often enough. Of course, his ears ring loudly enough that nearby dogs can hear it (not really, but it's getting there).
