The creator of OoT2D...dead?!

So apparently the guy who was working on Ocarina of Time 2D, not the one who used to come around here, is dead.

That's the tread about it. Apparently ebaums world or 4chan or something got attention of this and started posting some, well, disturbing things in the later half of the thread...don't read past the 4th page.

Discuss your dissatisfaction at never being able to play this game/theories you have that he did it so people would stop bothering him to complete the game/whatever.

Re: The creator of OoT2D...dead?!

Keep your eyes out for a news report or something. People have faked their deaths on the Internet before, though I hate to make accusations like that if he was indeed killed. It's a shame if he's gone; his project was finally starting to see a bit of progress from what I remember, and a lost life is never something to laugh about.

Re: The creator of OoT2D...dead?!

I'm with sea, I'd hate to make fun of him if he is genuinely dead.

However, I suspect he isn't. OoT 2D was never going to happen. The idea wasn't impossibly hard, but the creator never really tried. He'd make some screenshots, put them online, and ask for donations. He did this for years. I suspect people started wondering when he was actually going to make something, so he decided that now would be a good time to leave.

If I'm wrong then I apologize to any of this friends who might be reading this.

There were two OoT 2D projects. One of them, by some Methuselah guy or something, was just that, but this one had some real effort put into it. From what I've heard.

If this is real, I'm sorry to hear that.

That's not proof at all. Proof is a news report or something else confirming it. I could easily fake my own death by arranging for staff members to post it on Zelda Universe and simply leaving the community. While I hate to say things like this, and I mean absolutely no disrespect to the loved ones of Richard, this is the Internet, and I've just seen too much stuff like this that turned out to be fake to take this kind of stuff immediately at face value. It's a sad reality.

Re: The creator of OoT2D...dead?!

I put it on the main page of ZU, and put in the fact that these events have reportedly happened. :/

I don't know Revenant personally, so I don't know if this is all true... :/ I'm sure it is, though - it'd be really cruel to say something like this if it wasn't the case. :<

I can't find the police report or any information about the accident online, though, but that certainly doesn't mean that it's not real. :<

For now, I'm operating on the assumption that it's true. If it is, which I'm almost certain it probably is, it's a great loss for the entire Zelda community.

;_; Poor Dampe', and poor Dampe's girlfriend and family. :<

Sear, people die. It's a sad truth. I indeed feel sorry for this guy. He had quite a cool project going. I never knew him really, but I've been checking the site from time to time. I'm disappointed. And the thought of death has ruined my good mood.

Really? I had no idea.

I've just learned during my years in cyberspace to not absolutely trust anything like this beyond all doubt unless it comes from a reliable source... and sadly, a friend, especially around April Fools, is not a reliable source.

I've already stated, and will reiterate, my condolences to the family and loved ones of Richard. However, in the unlikely case that this is some sort of prank, or joke, I have absolutely zero respect for those behind it. I realise it makes me sound like a jerk saying this stuff, but it needs to be said: the Internet lies.

Ah, my mistake then. It would be nice if these people actually came up with unique names.

However, I'm curious as to why the family asked for the site to be taken down. If he was paying monthly hosting then I guess it would make sense, sorta, but they'd still be paying until his contract was up.

Re: The creator of OoT2D...dead?!

I'm going to join the group of people who still have some doubts. While the family and friends have my condolences if he actually did die, I wouldn't put money on it.

The lowering of the site did it for me. If this guy put so much effort towards the project, I imagine someone would want to continue it.

I'll give my condolences on April 2. You can't be at this site long before learning not to trust events so close to April Fools.

Re: The creator of OoT2D...dead?!

R.I.P DAMPE

Here is the differences between the two OOT2D makers...

Dampe: 15 years old, used RPG Maker. Was great at coding and put some real awesome effort into the game... Again, R.I.P

TRM: I believe he was 28, and used Gamemaker and Microsoft C#.net. He put a lot of effort into his version of the game but had to cut it very short and go into the Army.

One put years of effort into the game using a very cheap, but efficient RPG Maker.

The other, used Gamemaker and Microsoft C#.net but never got as far as the average RPG Maker...

Basically, if these two worked together, they would have one hell of a game...

Again, R.I.P Dampe/Richard

April fools?

I call it. I've done extensive searching about any teen that has died in Australia... since that's where he lived.

This is what I found:

Car smashes into wall killing teen | NEWS.com.au

Quote:
March 17, 2007 03:37pm

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy has died and two other teenagers have been seriously injured when a high-powered sports car driven by one of them crashed into a retaining wall in Queensland's north.

The 16-year-old was in the back of a Subaru WRX sedan when it crashed on Beck Street at Rasmussen, in Townsville, about 3am (AEST) today, a police spokeswoman said.

The 18-year-old male driver and a 17-year-old male passenger were taken to Townsville Hospital suffering serious injuries.

The police spokeswoman has not specified whether the boy died at the scene nor if speed or alcohol are believed to have contributed to the single-vehicle accident.

It is not known if the driver was on P-plates.
Could this be him? I thought for a second it could be true... but some facts don't add up.

This happened on March 17th 2007. In Queensland Austrailia.

According to his profile on the Ocarina of Time 2D forums...
Viewing Profile

Victoria is in the southern part of Austrailia. The accident reportedly happened in Queensland, which is to the north, correct?

Well, one could say that he was traveling. That could hold true.

BUT WAIT.

Profile says what??

Quote:

Accident happened: March 17th, 2007.

If a teenager dies, it's a great loss to any community. It would be reported in the media, because that's how morbid the media in general is. Always reporting bad news.
So if he truly died in a fatal car accident, it would have been reported by now, and someone would be able to provide proof...

I call BS until proven true. THEN I would feel bad for everyone's loss... and his family.

APRIL FOOLS.

No sadi, he wasn't in a car accident according to what people are saying. He was hit by a car when the driver lost control due to bad weather and hit him as he was walking down the street... :/

It would still be reported on by the media... like I said.

I don't want to sound harsh, or crass... because I sincerely do give out my condolences if he indeed passed away...

But again, some local news agency would pick up on this, because a teenage boy died. That's a tragedy, and that means more ratings. The news media loves to report bad news. Some sort of official news story, or *blip*, would be out there somewhere, if this was all true.

I'm not going to go on about it, because it's just a touchy subject. R.I.P if indeed true, but I am one among the skeptics.
