The Fashion Scene

After having some MSN convos with a few people... *coughpaniandandreacough* I've come to a conclusion about a certain thing we all refer to as “fashion”.

What conclusion you ask? Why, the conclusion that I know absolutely nothing about it. It's all Greek to me, of course. :3

Note: Contrary to popular belief, I do NOT, I repeat, I do NOT speak Greek.

This means that I have no clue about what is fashionable. I mean, I see it, I grasp it, but I just can't understand it. To me, it's illogical. Sure, I've seen fashion shows and what not, but the fashion I'm talking about isn't “high fashion”... it's more along the lines of middle school and high school fashion.

Now, we all live different places, with different climates and different styles... Why not talk about them?

For example...

Here in California, girls wear slippers or flip-flops. And no, not bathroom slippers. Ones more along the lines of ballerina slippers. Another fashionable featured footwear for girls would be high heels and pumps... though that is more in the high school.

Guys wear skater shoes and lately, they've been competing over which are the most expensive basketball shoes... >>

As a whole, the most fashionable look for girls would be short skirt, leggings, slippers, a purse of some sort, straightened hair at about medium length, bangs to the side, some eyeliner, and some form of clip. Oh, and a Jansport backpack is a must for some reason.

For guys, it's generally the loose hoodie, the skater shoes, the tight skater pants, sometimes a baseball cap, and long hair. The Jansport backpack also applies to guys.

Frankly, I don't follow trends. I observe and monitor them, occasionally start them, but never follow. I dont understand why they are the way they are... I would find them to be more inconvenient than "cool".

So, people from everywhere... What is considered “fashionable” around your neck of the woods?

You know where I live fashinabal is casual. I like to wear comforitabal, yet nice looking things. A very green, natural feel to things. I hate baggy cloths, and people who wear them to look cool. But it is becomeing more, and more popular. So what can I do.

It's the same here in Virginia, Cio. *Sighs*

Although the freezing weather we're now getting, you'll still find girls at my school wearing their short mini-skirts (sometimes without leggins, might I add) just to be 'trendy'.

I don't like to follow trends, personally. I dress the way I like, and most often than not I try to be original.

Although my originality seems to get me called 'emo' quite often. *Coughs*

Anyhoo, trends come and go way too fast. Next thing you know the fashionable thing to do will be to wear something completely illogical. X3

Oh, and Pani and I were discussing hairstyles, not fashion. (Fashionable hairstyles? *shrugs*) *Huggles Cio and her Greekness ^^*

Re: The Fashion Scene

Here in South Auckland, New Zealand, there are heaps of stuffs that peeps find fashionable.

For girls: Those tight jeans (I don't know what they're exactly called, since I don't own a pair), striped tops, spotty tops, these blouse thingies that have frilly things on it (have no idea what those are called either XD), colourful dress things - floral print, plain, spots, stripe, frilly etc, usually with a belt over the top around the waist... *thinkies of what else is considered fashionable*... leather hand bags... wearing black knee length tights under a mini skirt... and heaps of other things.

I'm not updated when it comes to this sort of stuffs, so I probably missed out on heaps XD.

And, as for what is fashionable for guys... I don't even know what's fashionable for girls, so asking about the opposite sex would be stupid lol.

I just wear hand-me-downs from my older siblings, being fashionable is expensive x3.

Re: The Fashion Scene

To behonest I dont really pay attention to fashion. I do notice lots of people at my school wear jeans.

What I wear to school is basicly my black jacket with a hood. Under it its usualy a white shirt/t-shirt but no1 ever sees it. Then I just wear jeans and some skater shoes(or i think thats what someone said they were, to behonest as long as they fit and are comfortable i dont care)

As long as it fits and somewhat clean I will wear it.
Thats about it.

Re: The Fashion Scene

I say screw fashion, I've been wasting enough money denying myself these past few years for a few t-shirts. Now that I'm really myself, I wear what I want and etc...

Since at my school there's an uniform and I'm grounded for the year, can't keep on track of it.

What I wear? Big jeans double my size(it may look like I had a dump in my pants since it's at my knees, but whatever you say, I still think it's really comfortable). Bands t-shirts, clothing from things I like(Viva La Bam t-shirt and a pair of Sneaux shoes), long-sleeved shirts and the most of it comes from Old Navy. I always keep my traditional green cap at hand, damn long hairs.

By the way, real mans wear pink.

Everything you just said. I live in California too you know. (Yes, also down south.)

But I don't like to wear flip-flops or those slipper things. I rather wear just regular shoes such as DVs'(I'm not sure if I spelled that right) or Converse. But I like to mix up my own style, my own trend. Buy a shirt from one store then buy jeans or a skirt in another. That's how I "shop for fashion". However, lately I've been buying all my clothes from a local store called Papaya. I've only seen 2 of those stores around where I live and I'm not sure if more exist. The only thing I do not wear is make-up. Don't know why but I'm not "attracted" to it as many girls are. Perhaps not yet.....>.>

Re: The Fashion Scene

I try to dress well. I'm not obsessed with fashion, but I definately am interested in dressing well enough. Just because I post on forums and love gaming doesn't mean I should wear clothes with no taste to them.

Not that I won't talk or hang out with people that wear horrible clothes, I'm not one to judge people like that. It's just that dressing better is (in my opinion) like a bonus and not a requirement. A bonus that is very welcome, but like I said - not necessary.

Would this have something to do with the conversation following my hairstyle?

Because I'm bored, I'm going to quote a lot and say not much.

Flip flops are still good down under, but not the cheap $2 ones from cheap shops. Name-brand ones (I own a pair... they were cheap!). Those 'slippers' are popular, too. Some students wear them at school, and we've been told that they're not allowed anymore.

The skater shoes has passed down here, though a few people still own pairs. *cough*Pani*cough*. I remember it was best to have the 'cool name brand' ones, but whatever. ¬¬ My Chucks are better than them. Wait, Chucks are name brand, aren't they? XD

Well, I've recently seen a lot of girls here wearing dresses, but we're going into the summer seasons. Leggings/skirts were big earlier this year, and straightened hair, mid length and bangs to the side are still big. Not the best news for a girl with naturally thick and wavy hair... but I got it all redone nicely today. *Won't bore you with details*.

Again, going into the summer months, guys are generally getting less hoodie-ish. They're generally wearing baggy shorts/jeans, miscellaneous hairstyles. A lot of caps, actually. And what are these Jansport backpacks? XD They probably have them down here, but what would I know?

Make your own trend.

Aha! Once I wore my fishnets, some 'basketball shoes' (before I got real Chucks, they were black though), a black skirt, a black vest, and a black jacket... partly because I wanted to, and partly because I wondered what kids at school would say. I got over 30 comments on my attire that day, most common being 'emo'. I kept count on my hand.

It turned out awesome, if not entirely 'in fashion'. I prefer being out of the fashion trends anyway.

Ah, I have my skinny jeans. I just love them. I think down here, people are getting into designs on tops and dresser. I'm probably wrong, though. Oh, those belts are pretty popular here too. And are the tights/miniskirts going around the world or what? XD

Myself, I prefer my Chuck Taylor's for footwear (tartan and denim print - no, I'm incapable of being normal XD I have some black/white ones too, but they're not actually CT's). Although I wear my name-brand flip flops if I can't be bothered. It's going into summer (as I've mentioned enough times), so I'm starting to dig my skirts/shorts out of my cupboard. Tops, mostly just vests or t-shirts. Bleh, being in fashion is too expensive and time consuming. If I look 'nice' and presentable, I can leave the house.

Re: The Fashion Scene

For the girls: It's tight butt-huggers (pants) and boots. Not the boots we all used to love to wear when we were little, either. The designer leather ones. Topped off with a thank top and chasmere sweater.

For the boys: Being macho and all, the same thing in the summer. Big shorts that fall down to their knees, and big sweatshirts.

For me personally: ... Eh. I wear what's in my clo-.... I mean, what's on my floor. And nowadays, that consists mostly of black stuff. Yay. If I could, I would probably have my clothes be more extreme... >3 That'd be awesome. But meh, it's normal... For the most part. XD

I LOVE BOOTS! I still have some plastic ones somewhere that you'll probably find on a five year old little girl. Hehe. But I love boots altogether.

Meh...

Most chicks around here wear jeans, Birkenstocks, maybe flip-flops, random shirts from places, and probably hoodies. Those things vary from time to time though. Some people around here wear boots and tuck their jeans in them. And people just do a lot of different stuff.

It's the same for guys here as it is in California, almost. They all wear skater shoes, jackets or hoodies, jeans, and basically ALMOST the same things that some of the girls wear. Except it's dude clothing.

Meh, I wear a lot of different things. Let's see, when I'm at school, I'll probably wearing some random graphic tee shirt, jeans, Birkenstocks or flip-flops, and possibly a hoodie or some kind or jacket. I wear that to some other places. Other times I'll probably be wearing short shorts or a skirt, boots or stilettos (maybe flip-flops), a random graphic tee shirt or some other kind of top, and a huge coat or jacket to top it off. Of course when it's freezing cold, I'll either wear panty hose, or I'll simply wear something longer.

There are two things that will ALWAYS be in style, and those two things are jeans and graphic tee shirts. So, feel free to splurge on them, because if you don't fatten up, lose weight, or change sizes, they'll do you good forever.

Re: The Fashion Scene

Ehm, well it's really cold here... so as of late alot of women/girls are wearing awesome fuzzy boots over our jeans. Retro vests are in right now, so are long fuzzy scarves and pseudo mittens. Houndstooth is getting really popular (I have yet to find a hat in that textile that aren't ugly colors.) Houndstooth in non-neutral colors doesn't make sense to me but I guess it's the new trend.

Girls are still wearing footless leggings and short skirts here, except with hoodies and boots instead of footie-shoe things. I guess sweater-dresses are in, considering that half my Wet Seal is stocked with them. I think they're really ugly, but whatev. It's also trendy to accessorize your top with a thick empire-waisted belt. (It went from wearing thick belts over your shirt on your lower hips to now... just under your boobs?...) OOOHH. CLUTCHES. Love those. 80's metal mixed with Madonna-esque lace is in, too.

As for boys, still the skater look if you're still young, with fuzzy collared jackets in neutral tones. Older guys have busted out their long pea-coats and multicolored scarves (which I think should be universal because it looks good on every guy). Uhh, and I've been seeing a few 30-somethings with really hot pink polos on. They aren't gay, either. I don't think younger guys can pull that off easily.

But yeah, I mean... in Wisconsin whatever you see in fashion magazines is what everyone is doing here.
