New moon mission being considered

A new moon mission is being considered by the white house so as to have a national goal for George Dubya's re-election campaign. So should man return to the moon? Opinions on the politacal and scientific applications of such a mission would be appreciated.

The US needs that money elsewhere. We don't need another already done endeavor such as our war to drain funds. Not that Im not saying it is futile to return to the moon, just that we need all that money in our economy, education and such at the moment.

I heard some people talking about that in the seats behind me at the movies today...
Really, I dont think its impotrant to the US right now. We are going ot have to pay of the War-funds sometime...and sending people to the moon will just add to the huge deficit Bush has created. But I dont blame him entirely for it, such things always happen with Total war, they always have.

I guess Id need to know more about the mission from a political and scientific standpoint to decide wether or not it was a worthwhile investment. Is Bush just trying to cash in on a feat that has not been accomplished in so many years, or will it be put to practical use? Such as initiating a lunar colony project perhaps...

Probably they should go to the moon again. And now we have better technology we can find out a bit more about the moon and the other planets. Soon we could go to mars.

Is there any reason to go to the moon? Or is Bush just doing this to show off? Because if so, I think that's very stupid on his part. No moon for now.

I said no because wait remind me how much money does the government owe to companies that are rebuilding Iraq.

I voted no, were going through a war right now and need that money for it, and more important things.

Just a couple more details on this, I read that they are considering to actually establish a permanent colony on the moon this time. Mars is also being considered at the moment. Also, I don't think that it's another stunt that Bush is trying to pull off.

A much more complete story. Remember, China expects to put a man on the moon by 2020, or so they said a month ago... and now we're talking about a permanent base. Coincidence? Well, space is usually regarded as a force multiplier and you can be damn sure there are a lot of resources we could - with newer equipment - mine and ship back for less cost than it is to get them now. We need space. I doubt you can expect battles in it any time soon, but from an economic standpoint it's the new frontier.
