I have a human qualude of a professor.

Has anyone had a professor that was so deathly dull that they actually put people to sleep?

My sociology teacher is so monotone that people start falling asleep. He seriously speaks in the SAME TONE that my therapist used to put me into a hypnotic trance for meditation to help with my anger/anxiety. I wasn't alone today, 4 other people fell asleep.

How do you deal with that ****, when it's at 8:30 in the morning?

Easy. Drop the class and wait until it's offered at 1 PM. If you can't, I suggest a cup of coffee or Moutain Dew in the morning.

Still... You know what's even worse than a boring professor in the morning? A boring professor in the afternoon. Last year, I took a religion course (general education requirement) a 2 PM, every other day. The professor basically stood up there every class period, lecturing from the same podium. No group projects, no discussion... Nothing. And, mind you, this was a 25-person class, so it wasn't exactly a giant lecture hall. It was almost as if the professor didn't even consider spicing up the course a little. His idea of excitement was a PowerPoint lecture.

...Needless to say, everyone exited the class more tired than when they entered. Which sucked, because I'd be lethargic for the rest of the afternoon.

Re: I have a human qualude of a professor.

I fall asleep in most of my classes. Usually, it's not the teacher, but what they;re talking about. Some teachers have pretty soothign voices, so it makes me feel sleepy.

One of my Myth and Symbol profs has the most soothing voice ever, and the class is in a warm room with comfortable seats.

I try my very hardest to stay awake -- the course is really interesting -- but I'm short on sleep as it is. Wakefulness is difficult.

Confession- I had not clicked on the thread at first because I didn't know what ..ah yes, "qualude" meant and was too lazy to search (I still don't know by the way, having not found it. I'd much appreciate help in finding out ;_; ). Tempest, lemme take my crown off to you for a sec .. *takes crown off for a sec* :3

Hey! you actually (AND Trico) should be grateful that that's the extent of the suffering.
Jims - you know what's worse than a boring teacher in the afternoon? a boring teacher in the afternoon with a B.O problem.
I used to have a boring maths teacher with a really bad case of B.O stench into the bargain. The combo ...
The B.O in his classroom was so thick it was practically a *physical barrier*. I tried to battle it at first, but I, too, like many in the class, were walloped over and knocked out cold nearly every lesson. No wonder I didn't do too well in mechanics xD

Re: I have a human qualude of a professor.

I can't say I've had a boring teacher (besides my math teacher this semester) since grade 10. I must say I almost fell asleep during a 20 minute video on plate tectonics. I absolutely hate it when the (annoying, stupid-sounding, (fake) accented, womans) voice actually ASKS a question (in an overly inquisitive voice) with an obvious answer and then indulges in it for ten minutes.

You kids need to smarten up and start listening to your professors. You're paying for your education now, and tuition fees aren't getting any lower.

Ha. Who am I kidding.

Re: I have a human qualude of a professor.

But Sea did have a point though. I pay from $250 per course to $380+ due to the increase of tuition fees. You are spending money to go to classes, what's there to complain about? There's always the option of dropping the courses and if you need them, then that's the way it is.

I hate reality.

And just think about it, you're spending about $50-100 every nap you take in class. Well maybe it's not near that.. but you'd be surprised.

So, I'm guessing everyone in your class fights for the seats in the back row? Or is the stench so bad that it doesn't matter?

I had a teacher in high school who would wear a lot of perfume everyday. She also had a tendency to wander around the room while she lectured. Couple that with one of my classmates being allergic to her perfume, it made for an amusing class. He'd start sneezing every time she'd waltz by.

Oh, and nice sig, Queenie. At least for today.

Re: I have a human qualude of a professor.

Luckily, I still have no balls for you to kick. :3

But again, Asia, boo-hoo to a whole £3000... people at my school end up paying $50,000 every single year (and $40,000 without room and board!). ;_; It's a horrid waste, but meh, we've got to do it to have any hope of getting a decent job... Also, quaalude was a market name for a very popular (and VERY STRONG) sedative drug in the late 1900s. So popular, in fact, that it became heavily abused. In the US, it was declared a schedule I drug and therefore capable of carrying the worst drug penalties possible for possession and use. It's still laced with other drugs fairly often to this day, if I remember properly, but is rarely seen inside the US any more.

And good lord, speaking of boring-as-hell professors, my 2pm Latin professor is the most boring old man I've ever met in my life. He's a 75 year old Jesuit and spends all class blathering about how D. R. Shackleton-Bailey used to teach him at Harvard. Therefore, *obviously*, my professor MUST be an expert on Cicero himself! :O

Thank goodness that my classroom has wireless. Without Wikipedia, I'd be bored to tears.

Re: I have a human qualude of a professor.

I've never had a teacher so amazingly boring I'd fall asleep, which is probably partly due to the fact that I'm not very quick to fall asleep. I've had borderline cases, though. There's one I remember particularly vividly (if "vividly" is the correct word to use for a topic like this).

Now for a little background about myself. I'm autistic, and I go to a place where I'm supposed to be tought social skills and other such crazy nonsense I need in the real world. Anyway, the person that's supposed to teach social skills to me is boring. She just talks and talks and talks. She is the most boring speaker I've ever come across. At the end of an hour with her, I'd be ready to die.

If I were you, I'd just skip the class. Stay in bed, because you're gonna sleep that hour anyway, so why not do it in comfort?

And to avoid getting behind, ask a fellow student if your professor said anything of importance.

Re: I have a human qualude of a professor.

My English teacher is annoying! He do and tell everything to desesperate the whole class!

My French teacher is stupid. Yesterday, there was a football match of the Centurions (the school's football team) at school. All the school has gone to see it... except my class! And for what? FOR A TEST OF ORTHOGRAPHY! C'mon! I'm not a football fan, but between having a test of orthography and watching a football match... I told myself that it would be a good opportunity to know how it works...

Yeah, we don't pay for our tution fees either.

Argh, some people should be allowed to give lectures, especially when you're timetabled for four hours without a break.

Thank god for wireless internet, mobile phones, and Heat Magazine.
