Cheesecake? food awards ahoy!

I was browsing here today when a spam idiot posted a topic with the heading "Cheesecake Factory Offer" (obviously the inside is something like: "hurry! offer ends soon" etc etc etc )
Anyway.. I thought it was a fun discussion which involved cheesecake and was disappointed when it wasn't .. ._.

THEREFORE

Thinking to myself, the other day whilst enjoying a pizza, I thought that some countries deserved prizes much like the Nobel ones for food and dishes that they have contributed with to the rest of the world. Ok, maybe not "awards" as such but appreciation.

Whose country's cuisine do you love most? what dishes do you think would get nominated for prizes and why?
Who loves cheesecake? =D

EDIT - I forgot to name a dish- PIZZA in my mind should be honoured again and again and again.
I would gladly marry whoever invented it >.>
I guess this is a chalk up for Italy ^-^ (assuming it IS italian italian)

*hands out pear juice to all* <3

Re: Cheesecake? food awards ahoy!

I love cheescake.

Yes, definitely Italian Food, I love their use of tomato's in their food, and the flavour...MMM MMM MMM, but Spagetti bolognese or Spagetti and Meatballs, probably the oldist dish I can remember and one of the best. everyone has had it for dinner one time or another and most people love it, therefore I think I should get an award.....I mean Italians get an award for Spagetti bolognese.

As for Pizza, one of my goals in life is to go to Napoli and go to Brandi and have a Margherita.

After seeing it on Pizza when they went on a quest around the world to find the origin of Pizza, it looks absolutely outstanding.

Re: Cheesecake? food awards ahoy!

Cheesecake is completely the best dessert ever. I have it every birthday- plain white cheesecake with canned cherries on top. Yum!

I'd have to say I love American food. And I'm not talking about hamburgers or hot dogs. All the foreign food I've ever eaten is Americanized, so I can't say for sure if I love true Italian food without ever being in Italy (although I'm sure I would). I know that I do love dishes like BLTs and chicken pot pie, and I like to eat at restaurants that don't always claim to be "Authentic" Italian or Chinese.

Re: Cheesecake? food awards ahoy!

Kay, well, I'm going to go for something Scottish XD.

Haggis!

There might be some confusion over what a haggis actually is, so I'll try to clear it up. I'll probably get it wrong, but I'll be close enough.

There are quite a few people - usually American tourists who feel it's compulsary to wear a kilt whilst in Scotland - who think that it's an animal. These are the same dafties who go on 'Haggis Hunts' and wonder why they havn't caught anything XP .

Anyways, it's actually (tradionally) the liver, heart and lungs of a sheep, mixed with oatmeal onion. This is all minced and served in a sheeps stomach.

Yum, huh?

Re: Cheesecake? food awards ahoy!

Thailand must win, over and over again.

There's nothing to compare with good Pad Thai, or red roasted chicken in curry... with PINEAPPLE! AND LYCHEE! Masuman beef and Thai Basil chicken make me happy, too.

the concept of spaghetti itslef is fascinating. I'd love to know how the first person who thought of making these spindly things thought of it =B

*laughs!*
My siblings crowded around me when they heard me and they wave at you =D
wee dafties, indeed <3

You know .. Haggis is very similar to an arab dish called "Osban" but which has rice, potatoes and a whole load of spices added in with the other ingredients you mentioned, and stuffed into the stomach. Sounds lovely, no? *ducks a pencil chucked over from the Vegetarian camp* =D
(vegetarians and vegans- speak up! ^-^) (wait! not against haggies and the like, but for your favourites :3 )

Ket - I've never tasted Thai o-o
But now that you speak so enthusiastically ... *totters off to Thai place*

By the way, Mini - I think the ol' Burgers deserve a well earned prize >_____>

Italy is winning so far! =D
And cheesecake is winning hands down in the confectionery field ^-^

mightily delicious they are. :]

I too love to eat cheesecake. And Italian is by far one of my favorite types of 'Americanized food' because around here, it is quite difficult to come around authentic cuisine.

BLT is a Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato sandwich. They usually include mayonnaise. Best sandwich ever.

I also love Indian food! Just had some last night, from a place nearby that serves the best kind. But I've never tried authentic Indian, either.

Yeah, they do. But we make them so often at my house, they've become too typical to be a favorite. (I personally can't stand fastfood burgers, though. Ew! Homemade any day.)

Re: Cheesecake? food awards ahoy!

Ah, food. It's the greatest topic there is, isn't it?

I'm a person that loves eating good food. When there's something on the plate that I like, it'll be gone before you know it, and where it goes is a mystery that baffles anyone. I can eat for 3 when one of my favourite dishes is served. Possibly 4, and even more then that if it's a truly great dish. Luckily, my dad's a great cook, so I'll get something really great at least once every week.

Anyway, on to the topic...

The much-revered Pizza. One of my favourite dishes of all time. Italian restaurants have never ever let me down in any way whatsoever. I have some very fond memories of special occasions like birthdays when my dad would make delicious Pizza for me and my brother. It's the first food to come to mind when talking about greatest foods ever, that's saying enough. Pizza's rule.

Tortilla's. It's a big corn pancake filled with meat, delicious sauce, and other stuff. How can it not be great? Sure, it inevitably ends up in a mess, with my face covered in sauce, and with half of the Tortilla's contents falling out of the thing and onto my plate, but damn, is it tasty. I love those things. I really do.

Ice Cream. I love Ice Cream. Especially the delicious strawberry-flavoured Ice Cream my dad makes me, as well as the great stuff they have at my favourite Ice Cream place. I personally tend to define it as "Bliss in edible form". I love it.

Indian food. There's not really one specific dish for me to mention here. I just really love pretty much all of it. Especially the spicy stuff. It's brilliant.

Shoarma. A pita sandwich, some meat, garlic sauce, and maybe some vegetables and spicy stuff which probably isn't in the traditional recipe but tasty nonetheless. I can never get enough of it.

Chinese food. The Chinese have all kinds of crazy foods that never cease to amaze me. It's a real pity I don't get Chinese food very often, because it's really good.

Poffertjes, a traditional Dutch dish, and one of the few traditional Dutch dishes that are actually edible. They're like tiny pancakes, and they're really tasty

Pancakes. Always tasty. Especially when there's apple or banana in the dough.

Fries. Especially when they're nice and crispy, with some mayonaisse and curry sauce. It's always a good meal.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot of foods that deserve a place on the list, but I have to end it sometime, right?

Re: Cheesecake? food awards ahoy!

Mexican food.

Why? Because in CA, they make it fresh and real! I adore all of it, the rice, the beans, the chimichangas...and I have no idea if I spelled it right. I never get tired of it, especially becasue the alternate choices are McDonalds and all of those other disgusting fast food places.

I'd choose chips and salsa over a burger or pizza anyday.

Oh yeah, and BLT's are good, as long as the bacon is taken out. I despise the idea of eating a pig.

My thoughts exactly. On everything. I live in southern California where good Mexican food is never far. Hm... I like Burritos. <3 I like Churros. <3 I like carne asada. <3 I like quesadillas. <3 And my grandma makes the best viria, posole, and menudo... <333

My grandma also makes the best beans...

I make awesome rice... AND my tostadas are second to none. <3

Also tamales, sopes and home made tortillas!! Oh, they taste so good! Pan dulce tastes so sweet and goes great with milk.

Man, all this talk about food has made me hungry! ><

Re: Cheesecake? food awards ahoy!

I love quesadillas de pollo, and chuletas, and bolillios, with sugar.
Oh Oh!! and Ensalada de papa.

Now, I know that last one isn't really Mexican, but 'ensalada' is so much fun to say in spanish, I just had to.

Re: Cheesecake? food awards ahoy!

Did someone already say that spaghetti (spell it right, wackos) is from the East Indies?? (or China, I suppose, actually). China, yeah.. But we Italians made it rock.

Oh, and Asia, remember my great-great-&tc.-grand-father who invented Italy? Well it was my great-great-&tc.-nona (grandmother) who invented pizza...so ...I think you're sorta outa luck. hehe. BUT, you can still marry one of her descendents :0P'' *chortles*

I like shepherd's pie ;; I think it's German...like, a Jewish adaptation or something. It's..amazing.. When make correctly, that is.

Re: Cheesecake? food awards ahoy!

I absolutely love Thai food (especially pad Thai). Thai iced tea happens to be one of my favorite drinks (most Thai restaurants don't know how to make then correctly though). I especially love the optional spiciness of their food and their hot sauces (or their sauces; period). Thai styled garlic chicken is another one of my favorites. Thai food is defiantly one of the best tasting types of food in my menu.

Chinese food is another one of my favorites. I like pretty much everything about Chinese food.

Italian food is defiantly good. Pizza (one of THE best tasting things on this planet), all their types of noodles, their cheese (mozzarella, parmesan), and especially their sauces (it's what makes most of their food taste so good).

Egyptian food is yet again; another one of my favorite types food. 'Roze bi laban' (which is basically rice pudding; but prepared differently then usual) is a popular dessert and one of my favorites (as well as "basboosa"). I like everything from kabobs, to 'Bamya wa roze', and many other types of Egyptian food.

Occasionally I do like Mexican food, but it gets sicken after to a while (especially when you live in Los Angeles and Mexican restaurants are EVERYWHERE); but I like the food none-the-less (I just can't stand 'cheap' Mexican food). Burritos, tacos, quesadillas, flautas, tamales, nachos; it's all good.

I only enjoy certain cheesecakes. I'm not fond of most of them.

Re: Cheesecake? food awards ahoy!

Australia what food have we given the world. We have shown our sensitve side with The Pavlova and the Peach Melba, deserts named after a ballerina and a dame. Perfected beer and found use for its by-products, come on if you try vegemite you'll like it just don't spread it so thick. Then there is the tim tams, worlds greatest chocolate biscuit, many forgein vistors actually pick them up first thing when they have landed. Lamingtons are still the best use of sponge cake. And then to top this off we added eggs to pizza, beetrot to burgers and have no worries about having kangroo steak on the grill. Yep there is a lot, heck if I was to just list afternoon teas alone I'd be here all day.
