School Shooting

Today was a very scary day. I came out of my critical thinking class, and started to head home, as I saw spotted my friend who goes to school about 8 blocks away from mine. She ran up to me and gave me a hug, and told me the news - at her school, where about 90% of my friends go, some guy walked in with a semi-automatic rifle, and started shooting everyone. Fortunately, only 12-20 students were shot out of the 7000, and there've only been one or two deaths, including the shooter's - it could have been much worse.

You can read about the full story here.

Most of my friends were in school while this happened, but thankfully none were shot. It's pretty freaky to know that someone can just walk into your school and do this. Nobody's really sure what happened, since there are so many conflicting news reports. Some people said there were four gunmen, and that one was still on the loose. Initially, my friend told me that 67 people were shot, which really freaked me out. It's one thing when you read about some random school in the US with shootings, but it's entirely different when it's just a few blocks away from you.

Re: School Shooting

Anybody remember Rachel Scott? That girl who seems like she had a true purpose in life? Rachel's challange or something, Forgive me If I misspell the name, but this remindes me of her.

Sad that these things do happen. People do get hurt..some lost.. But it's the shooters who will trully suffer the pain.

Re: School Shooting

Thats insane. Why do people want to do **** like this? Why do they feel it right to put out others lives, along with theirs? If they are gonna kill themselves, do it on their own, and don't take others with them. They're gonna get famous on the news for a few nights, get memorials made in not their honor, but the people who died at the end of the killers doings. People just have messed up minds I guess. It makes me think about what those people that were killed might have had in store for them in their lives...hell, they may would have grown up to make a cure for cancer or something. But no, some dumbass has to get his few episodes of fame on the evening news, and get nothing out of it in the long run.

People these days... seriously, if these gunmen have problems with life, go suicide or something. Don't take other innocent people with them. Geeze.

Re: School Shooting

Thats is ****ed up, I mean what could posses someone to take the lives of the inncoent, just because they got picked on. hell I get picked on every day but i dont go shot up my school. **** it is stuff like this thats makes me question the world we live in today, that kids can go and pick up guns and shot down there school without anyone realizing that he has some ****ing issues. Seriously people like this need help, and it should be the goverments job to give it to them before they pull a stunt like this. Seriously man its cool that your friends wern't hurt but other peopl;es friends where hurt, and that is what matters. **** i hate **** like this it always makes me question my school, and makes me wonder if we are next. Still good luck with this it will affect life for you so much. My respects for those lost.

Re: School Shooting

Hmm, and just when I am reading a depressing book on the Columbine shooting.

I briefly heard about this on talk radio today, but didn't really pay attention. Now I'm kicking myself.

Thank heavens that all of your friends were safe. That guy was sick in the head, and he was disposed of. Some people....

Re: School Shooting

I'm really sorry to hear about this. I hate hearing these sort of stories. Their so sad, and I'm really thankful that I've never been in anything like it, and hopefully it will stay this way.

I did a speech on columbines at school. People were saying that those who bring guns to school are ****ed up. I think they just need help. Sometimes I even feel sorry for them, despite how much hurt they've caused. This might sound stupid, but it's just what I think.

Because often you will find the person was bullied badly. You're lucky if you've never experienced bullying, it brews terrible hate in later life.

This is something I'd expect in America. But Canada has strict gun control laws. Hopefully we'll be able to find out what his problem was.

He got bullied most likely, there's no big mystery about it. He had that typical "Screw you all" mentality. I admit I've felt it, but I'm not insane. Who doesn't want to slap the bullies of your past? That person took that particular mentality way too far, though.

Re: School Shooting

This news just proves that we live in a TOTALLY random world. Nice school everybody is chatting, going on with their lives and then something savage comes to interrupt it for no freakin' reason. I read the article and it does sound like a troubled kid who wanted to get back at some students of the school. Saying "Get the f*** away from here..." to the police. Yep, I'm pretty sure this kid had some beef to settle with the students or maybe even the school. Or from the description of his expressions, clothing, and "mohawk" hair, I could assume that maybe this boy has watched the Matrix movies way too many times.

This could have been worse like someone said, only one person died and I think that is a miracle seeing as there was a lot of headshots in the article.

During my days in school there were three kids I could remember who brought guns to school to do the same thing but they were apprehended before any harm could be done. I say schools deserve more security then they are providing now.

Fortunately? It's still rather unfortunate for those 12 - 20 students who got shot, especially the ones that are dead. Tell their parents it could have been much worse, they'll appreciate it.

Apparently he was in his early 20's, according to witnesses.

Yep, fortunately. Considering what could have happened, we're very lucky. The room where the shooting took place (if it was where I think it was) is usually absolutely flooded with people. I'm very surprised he only got 20 people.

I dunno, we actually have a lot of people like that in Montreal. Most are perfectly peaceful and either keep to themselves or beg for money. I have no idea who this guy was, though.

On the other hand, most students don't want more security. I always laughed at the schools with metal detectors and x-rays, and I'm sure most students do to. Of course, I really don't have much else to suggest.
