What is your religion?

I'm a Christian because in kindergarten I became interested by the Bible stories that were read to us. What religion are you? Why?

What are the good things about your religion? What are the bad things?

Edit: OK, it's now re-opened with a new first post. I'll watch to see how the discussion goes, if it doesn't seem like it really belongs in I:SB I may lock this again.

Re: What is your religion?

I'm a Christian.

Don't call it a religion.

Call it a way of life. The only way for me.

Although, I'm struggling right now. But I'll still keep the faith. No matter what.

Re: What is your religion?

OK. What's the good and bad thing about Christianity, Wolfen? What do you think?

The good thing is, you may be there to watch miracles happen.

Bad thing, I don't know, some people lose faith everyday. Go figure.

Religion: Non Denominational Christianity

Reasons:

1. I was raised in the Christian faith
2. Knowing that there is an ever loving God out there that cares for every body, including me, and would sacrifice His own Son for our sake conforts me greatly
3. The universe makes absolutely no sence without there being some sort of Divine Being
4. Miracles are one of the most common, yet amazing phenomena that happen every day of our lives, no matter how large or small.

Good Things about Christianity:

1. Secure feeling of the omnipresent, all loving God
2. Being able to be forgiven of your sins by nothing greater than simply asking for it honestly
3. It sets an increadibly fine line of rules to follow in life
4. Many many more, I'm just in a bit of a hurry

Bad Things about Christianity:

1. I honestly can't say that there is, other than the fact that it's the most targeted religion for mockery and insult. Seriously, Christianity, along with every other faith/religion out there, should by no means be mocked and/or insulted. This is one of the most (if not the) most sacred thing one has.

Re: What is your religion?

I believe in absolutely nothing.

I have no desire to practice any religion, nor does any of it give me reason to believe.

Sorry dude, have you ever watched late night christain programs. Many people in the united states are just making it too Damn easy. But why shouldn't relegion be mocked humanity does mock everything else, through humour and mockery failings of religion can be exposed, these are often the fault of the people preaching though (be it modern day evangelist or ancient scribes that wrote/copied the bible so don't ever misconstrue it as an attack on the core of the faith.) This way the mistakes can be corrected, isn't that after all what Jesus was trying to do. Oh and don't say God is infallible please, he isn't in charge of religion, humans are.

Anyway, I was born ecomenical christian but today I decided thats only really of use on census forms. Why because there is so many traditions behind that, pagan ones, australian ones, scientific ones, pop culture ones and commericial ones. But saying Commericlist Pago Christians, well you know to long to say and even though its honest people think there is something wrong with you. This gets mixed in with some of my own personal beliefs about the nature of the universe as well, mainly regarding free will and what kind of after life there maybe. Its just easier to say, jesus came said why don't we all just get along (wether man or son of god good advice). The rest of the people then nailed him to a tree for it. thats the message I think about come easter and christmas.

Re: What is your religion?

I am a muslim, I have been following Islam for about 2 months now. I don't think anyone should say whats good or bad about the religion though, in the end it doesn't matter because you just take the good and bad about a religion plus wouldn't it seem bias.

Re: What is your religion?

I'm Jewish, and have been all my life. More specifically, I'm a very Reform Jew. There's some things about the faith that I sometimes don't agree with, but for the most part I consider myself a good Jew.

Re: What is your religion?

Once upon a time there was a man named Jesus Christ.
I follow his teachings and le ten commandments.

I don't believe he was the son of God.
And I don't believe in heaven or hell.

Re: What is your religion?

I don't know if I have a religion anymore. These days, it's work and school and computer, etc. There's no time for me to pray or to worship any spiritual being in search of divine guidance. But I was (probably still am) in Buddhism.

I don't think religion is needed to have any form of morality because morality comes from social teachings and influences. One of my friends actually said this: "religion is a form of making excuses for your mistakes". When I think about it... it could be true. You make a mistake on your part and you pray to God for forgiveness. It gives you this sense of peace, yet you still made the mistake in the first place. How are you ever going to redeem yourself in reality when you are constantly seeking forgiveness from someone greater above? It's not like when you "feel" God has forgiven you will make things better in reality, in this living world.

Sure, spirtual guidance shapes your consciousness and your sense of right and wrong. But if you need to be afraid of punishment from God or any divine spirits up there, then what's the point of being in a religion in the first place? You live in fear for the mistakes that you've made. Why must you make yourself suffer like so?

Learn from your mistakes, suffer the consequences for your actions, and move on with your life. I think that's more important than what someone has written or has been said over the centuries.
