Chinese Iron Ball

I was wondering if anyone has a pair of these, or has ever come accross them. I recently got given a pair by my neighbour, and have read up on them. Does anyone have any info on them actually working?

I'm sure this thread could go deeply into the world of Chi/Chakra/Acupuncture.

Here's some information on the Iron Balls

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
History:
The Baoding ball originated in Baoding, China, a small city in Heibei province. They were also called "Iron Balls" because they were originally made from solid iron.
The heavy solid ball has been replaced with a hollow, chrome-plated steel version... usually with an sounding plate inside that makes a that chimes when turned. Several of these modern companies also manufacture aerospace products. However, many sold today are Cloisonné models with Chinese symbols designed on the surface and more recently Western logos have appeared. The hollow chrome balls are by far the most popular and are manufactured by several large factories in China.
Mass production of the Baoding Iron Ball dates back to the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), and Baoding craftsmen still meticulously produce them in Baoding, China.
What’s the Theory?
The balls work on the meridians much like acupuncture or shiatsu massage. According to Chinese traditional medical theory, these meridians (Jingluo) are channels or pathways through which vital energy (Qi) circulates within the body. Acupuncture points are also distributed along these Jingluo meridians. By means of the Jingluo, the ten fingers are connected with the cranial nerve and vital organs of the human body including heart, liver, spleen, lungs, kidneys, gallbladder, stomach and intestines. By stimulating these points with the Baoding balls, each meridian is stimulated which in turn can create better circulation of vital energy and blood within the body.
Here is a quote from a Chinese advertisement for the baoding exercise balls: ("It can cause the jingluo unblocked and thorough, the vital energy and blood to function in harmony. the muscles nimble, the bones strong, the mind sober, can invigorate the circulation of blood, and can prevent and cure hypertension and various chronic diseases. If you keep on taking exercise every day for months and years, you can get the fine results of keeping your brain in good health with high intelligence and good memory, relieving your fatigue, drowning your worries, and moreover, prolonging your life."
Re: Chinese Iron Ball
Place those two balls on your hand, and use your fingers to rotate them around and around in a circle on your palm. That's how you are supposed to work with these balls.
....
Doesn't sound right, I know. But that's how you do the exercise with them.
Re: Chinese Iron Ball
I've got one, and my cousin has the other. We won them with our combined effort, and thus each took one. I don't believe that they do anything for your "chi," and they certainly don't provide good exercise, but the one I have makes an awesome chiming sound when you hit it with another. It nearly puts you to sleep.
They have some cool pictures on them, too. The one I have has a phoenix on it, and the other has a dragon, each of which looks incredible. When everything's counted, though, they're pretty useless.
In China, the Phoenix and the Dragon represent high virtues and grace and such, honourable traits.
The Phoenix was the female manifestation of this, and the Dragon was the male manifestation of this.
The two also represent Yin and Yang
In old weddings, Women wore Phoenix decorations, and Men wore Dragon decorations, again to symbolize balance.
Okay - on topic.
Yup, I have a set of those, in fact, mine look very much like Owl's, but with more elaborate Yin Yang decorations with gold and stuff.
And yeah, to use them, you are supposed to roll the around your hand (like some people do with Coins), and they're supposed to regulate your Qi.
And like the awesome Feline Witch and Aerixeth have said - the balls make cool, chiming sounds when they move.
Re: Chinese Iron Ball
Do they make you healthy, wealthy, or wise? No. Will they build upper-arm strength if you do exercises with them? Yes. (Well, the original iron ones, the new hollow ones wouldn't have much effect.)
Re: Chinese Iron Ball
I think they build up your finger and hand/wrist strength. They are addictive too, I've been sat with my left hand rolling them around for almost 20 minutes now, and it isnt tiring. When you stop it feels like energy is circling round your hand. but its just because you've got used to it.
Tis pretty cool if you want the circular energy feeling ^_^
Re: Chinese Iron Ball
I like my set, because......they kind of are special to me. They were given to me by my godfather, and I grew up looking at them.....
Basically, to cut a long story short, the chinese bell spheres are the last time I saw him.........something happened, and he lives far away now.......
I wish I'd taken better care of them........I still have them, but part of the cushion for the box is gone, and I feel really guilty.
My mom has some of those, I am actually really good at rotating Baoding Balls. I do can it rotating both clockwise and counter-clockwise on both hands. It does relieve stress in my opinion too.
Re: Chinese Iron Ball
I have a set of them, but I'm too afraid I'll drop them if I roll them on my hand. My uncle got me them from Thailand, so I don't want them to break. They do sound neat though, I've never tried acupucture or that stuff as a healing method. Someday I will, if only as a last resort.
It's never passed a single clinical test. Don't fund those scam artists, please.
I wouldn't go so far to say that. It is what many Chinsese people honestly belive works. While it hasn't proven to work, or not work, I wouldn't call acupunctrists scam artists..........
It has been shown to not work any better then the placebo effect. As such anyone claiming that it does work better is either misguided or a scam artist, if they're misguided it's presumably wilful blindness, anyone can see the results of these clinical trails. Either way they don't deserve your cash.
Re: Chinese Iron Ball
I do believe that these Iron Balls are a form of meditative training.... It's not just about your Chi balance and inner strengths, but also your mental state.
Re: Chinese Iron Ball
I love those things. Can anyone rotate them both ways? It's actually very difficult for most people. I have to struggle awkwardly with my hand to get them to go backwards.
But anyway, yes, I do beleive that they help releive stress, and they help to energize you.
Exactly, you rotate them,my friend's dad has a pair,and he uses them for stress relif. You have to have big hands to do it right.
